    furnace repair

My furnace fire did not turn on. I called the company one day and technician came and repaired furnace. He charged me 140 dollars. One week later same problem came again. I called the company and made anther appointment. On the appointment day, I was waiting at home and no one showed up and no call and noting. Then I called the company, the representative said that the service manager was on emergency and the manager would contact next day. The next no one contacted me and I have to called the manger. When I talked to the service manger about my dissatisfaction about furnace problem, (by the way, my one year old kid got cold because furnace did not heat at night) I was told the most ridicules excuse I have ever heard which is " if our technician can not fix the problem that means your furnace is crapy, the only way to solve the problem is using our furnace." My furnace brand is Carrier, and only 5 years old. I am not sure if the carrier furnace has good quality or not, because I did use and compare many furnaces. But I am quick sure this company provide below average service compare to many other services I have used. Aways stay away from trouble!

    Flame sensor

I knew it was a flame sensor before the guy showed up, and told them so ,not that it matters, I was told 129.00 service call to determine the problem, low and behold flame sensor. they charged me a 700 percent mark up on the flame sensor, it took the guy 3 minutes to change. It took longer to draw up and pay the overly inflated price for this item. I would recommend NO ONE EVER DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE !!! TOTAL TIME IN HOUSE 10 MINUTES. COST $272.90,

    Rooftop units

This company has the best customer services and skilled technicians in Calgary hands down! WCF has went above and beyond for our company like no other. We have done smaller projects $10,000 as well large projects $180,000 with Western Canadian Furnace. The office staff is more then accommodating and pleasant every time I have spoke with them. The operations manager / lead technician (Max) is one of the most talented, knowledgeable people I have ever had the opportunity to deal with. The quality of the work we received was and continues to be impeccable! I would not be stretching the truth by calling this company one of the finest in North America let alone Canada. The only complaint I have is, I wish we knew about Western Canadian Furnace years ago. I would like to personally thank the owner Bruce for everything he has done for our company!!

    Duct and Furnace Cleaning

EDIT: They refunded what I paid promptly (hence a rating of 1 instead of 0). I still had to pay to clean a tenant's suite. The real question is what were they thinking sending out this guy to do the work??? Completely worthless service – there was no cleaning involved and they left an incredible mess. The owner of the company takes customers for granted and hires inappropriate people to do the work and does not train them. The company takes advantage of people who are not knowledgeable about the process. When booking I said that I have a 100+ year old house and that they should send somebody who is more experienced. The operator said that should be fine. The guys that showed up were on the job for two months (Vladimir - assistant) and a month and a half (John - tech). I requested the Silver furnace cleaning package, which includes cleanup and adjustment of blower components, cleanup of ignition assembly, cleanup of joist liners, cleanup of internal and external parts of a heat exchanger, calibrating thermostat, CO testing, tightening all electrical connections, lubricating all moving parts and more (as per the website and the phone operator). The actual work done consisted of vacuuming the furnace. They did not even clean the blower!!! The tech insisted that this is all that this package includes. The tech had difficulties listening and trying to understand what I was saying. They did not bother to hook up the suction hose very well, the air was going around the suction hose. There was really bad suction through the vents to suck out the dust when they were ‘cleaning’ them. A lot of dust made it back to the room. Although I know almost nothing about this I suggested to the guy to check first if there is any suction on the vent before blowing compressed air down it. Had they done this, there would be a lot less mess since a few of my vents turned out to be disconnected. They did not bother to seal off other vents to increase the suction on the one being cleaned. They did not take vent covers off, just cleaned up around the vents with compressed air. They did not run the pneumatic brush tool down the ducts. The excuse was that the tool can get stuck and they can damage the ducts with it. They made a lot of mess and did not clean anything up, absolutely useless and horrible. Finally, I saw that the suction hose is barely hooked up to the top floor furnace. I checked suction on a vent with a lighter and there wasn`t any at all, making this whole cleaning pointless. I suggested the tech places a blanket around where the suction hose is hooked up to the furnace to improve the seal and suction. The tech stopped text messaging and got defensive and said that I`m trying to say that he does not know what he is doing. I got them to stop and not to clean the rest. At first he insisted on finishing all the work but after calling his supervisor, they left (charged me only for what they `cleaned` $140). I called the office twice while they were on site asking to talk to someone who actually knows something about furnace and duct cleaning. I was told that somebody will return my call very quickly, although nobody called me back. The whole experience was unbelievable.

    Answer from pro:

We are very sorry we could not perform a proper cleaning of your HVAC system due to its very poor technical condition caused by the age of the house and the HVAC system layout. We have fully refunded the payment that was originally charged to your account for the work that was done attempting to perform a cleaning. We are very sorry for the inconvenience we have caused for you. Sincerely, Bruce Irwin

    Furnace service

Charged $80 for a thermocouple. Feel ripped off! This should be a $30 add on the a standard service. Was told that was the price very mater of factly by the person who handled my phone call inquiry.

Duct Cleaning, Furnace Service & Dryer Vent Cleaning

They called me 5 minutes before the appointment time and told me that they were going to be a 30 minutes late - they were over an hour late. They dragged the vaccum hose around 2 door jams and marked them up without any care being taken. They ran the Vacuum hose right over a small plant in the front yard. The technician seamed to know what he was doing. The helper pointed out that 2 of my Cold Air Return vent covers were broken but then in the process he broke 2 additional ones and never said anything. There was supposed to be a "free sanitiation" for the ducts which I was told would be fogged into the system - the tech didn't recommend the fogging because some people don't like the smell and he recommeded spraying the sanitizer right on the filter - but he didn't have the sanitizer on the truck so that didn't get done (Not a big deal to me). They pack up and almost left when I had to remind them about the Dryer Vent Cleaning. In the past when I have had this company clean the dryer vent they actually got in behind the dryer and blew air through the dryer and then through the vent from the inside - this time they just stuck an airhose into the vent from the outside and said it was done - I don't believe it was done correctly - they were running very late for the next appointment. But the worse part was they both asked to use the washroom (which had just been cleaned the day before) and one of them left urine all over the outside of the toilet bowl and on the tile floor. They were much less expensive than other companies so there was good value for the cost - however I would not recommend them and the next time I will pay more to have someone else do the work.

    Repair Furnace

Happy with the prompt response time and overall service provided by Western. The control board on the furnace had shorted out, needed to be replaced and I explained this on the phone before the technician arrived. Everything was done professionally however the cost for the control board was $550 whereas this exact part can be ordered online and shipped for anywhere from $95 to $130. Marking up your parts is expected due to the costs associated with carrying inventory but doing so by over 400% is very disappointing.

    Answer from pro:

Thank you for taking the time to review our company! We work hard on our customer service. While I understand that you are unhappy with the pricing of the control board, it must be taken into account that we obtain all our furnace parts from Certified Dealers. While internet pricing maybe lower, most internet parts must be shipped and then installed. Therefore, it must be taken into account that we are able to have parts on short notice, parts that we trust to have your furnace back up and running in the shortest time possible. Also parts purchased over the internet may host other issues such as warranties not being honored. I hope this answers the question of why we don’t use internet parts and therefore must charge accordingly. We look forward to providing service to you in the future.
