    Windows and Doors

In 2010 I ordered 18 triple glazed windows, 3 triple-lite entry doors and 3 solid insulated doors from Fibertec Window & Door Mfg in Concord, ON. All of these units were specifically designed with a fibreglass frame surround, for this passive solar house, which faces due south on the North Mountain here in the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia. Every unit was very sturdily crated on skids with Aspenite/flake board protection, for the long journey from ON to NS. The quality control was spot on as the Brits say! When one of my construction crew accidentally punctured a small window, I was promptly sent a replacement, of course at my cost, with the installation being easy as per the supplied instructions. I chose awning ventilators since they can tuck up under the roof overhang and allow ventilation even on a slightly rainy day; which happens here, being stuck out in the North Atlantic Ocean. On the north face of the house, the awning window is at the bottom, for front to back ventilation at nightime, when it is cooler during summer months. Casements are de rigueur for bedrooms as that is building code for egress during a fire. The handle cranks, the twin side locks, the multiple seals have all functioned perfectly these past few years since installation. The painted finish on the exterior has continued to stand up to sun, wind and rain without any deterioration. Of course I realize these are early years. With the solar enhancing hard coating on the interior panes of these windows, one does have to become used to a very slight ‘bluish cast’ when looking outdoors. Over time I have forgotten that I noticed this in the first few months of living with them. Overall, I am very pleased with the workmanship, shipping and ease of installation of these windows from Fibertec. Their cost, while not the cheapest, was in my estimation at the time, the best value for money of the 4 fibreglass window manufacturers in Canada. If you have read down this far, I have a blog about this unusual house. You can follow the construction process in the Step by Step link . While there was no specific chapter devoted to the windows, I do write about them throughout the blog and there are many images thank become full size when you play the mouse cursor over the pictures.

    New Windows

We recently purchased five triple glaze Fibertec windows for a renovation project in our home. The low profile of the fiberglass looks great, and the quality of the product is obvious compared with vinyl windows I've installed in the past. The personalized service and followup from Matthew, the Ottawa representative, was also a big factor in making the experience a positive one. I'd recommend Fibertec to anyone looking for high quality, energy efficient windows.

    Service

The Company has an excellent product - one of the best. There were some issues around timing of installation, which were eventually dealt with to our satisfaction. More importantly, the Company has made internal changes to ensure such issues don't recur. We would recommend this Company - they have an excellent product, which was impeccably installed. We are very happy with our new windows and door.

    Casement Windows

I purchased Fibertec Windows about ten years ago when I built my new lake front home. The builder sold me on the idea of Fiberglass for energy efficiency and longevity. The windows looked great with a terrific R factor. For all the windows we have my heating bills are very reasonable. Unfortunately after ten years some of the casement mechanical parts wore causing difficulty in opening and closing some of the windows. Fibertec shipped me the replacement parts free of charge. Over two hours I replaced the mechanical parts on the windows that needed them. They all work as good as new and still look great after ten plus years! I don't care who's windows you buy, eventually you will have some problems. What sets one company apart from another is how they respond when the problem arises. Fibertec came through and the repairs were simple. After ten plus years the windows still look great and work like new.

The Best Windows on the Market

My husband and I love our house and our neighborhood and we want to stay there forever. We searched all over the city for windows that had a warranty that was longer than 20 years. We found most weren't even longer than 10 years! I was blown away when I had someone from Fibertec come to my house and explain their products. Fibertec's windows came with a lifetime warranty and I could get them in any colour I wanted! They also had the highest energy star ratings available anywhere. After all that, it actually was a pretty easy decision choosing Fibertec's Fiberglass Windows, and one I know I won't regret it. Our windows are beautiful and I'm confident they'll last me through the next 50 summers and winters without a problem.

    Energy Efficient Window Replacement

We weren't happy with the windows and doors that came with the 25 year old house we bought earlier this year. They were rotted and had moisture coming through them almost all the time. We knew when we bought it the first thing to update were the windows. So we visited window and door manufacturers showrooms every Friday for a month. Somewhere along the line we met with a sales rep at Fibertec. We liked the people we met at Fibertec and felt like they helped us learn a lot about windows in general. After, we consulted some industry websites and found their product came highly recommended from some experts in green building. Their windows and doors get used in a lot of net zero energy and passive homes so we knew they were good enough for ours. We had them installed a few months ago and have been thrilled with how they look, and their performance has been really impressive. When it's hot and the sun is out we don't feel heat blazing through the windows on the south side and it's made some rooms far more comfortable to be in. Overall we're very happy with our choice - Fibertec has been great, and I'm comfortable if I need them for anything they'll take care of me.

13 Fiberglass Windows and 2 Exterior Doors

We are so happy with our windows from Fibertec Window and Door Mfg. I knew fiberglass windows were much better than materials like wood and metal, and even vinyl, so I saw the local fiberglass window manufacturers to find the right one to install in my home. The Fibertec salesperson was very knowledgeable and in the end the ordering process was very straightforward. I was able to buy my doors and windows from the same place which was really convenient. I also HAVE to comment on their installation team - they were amazing! So neat and polite, and they finished the whole job in 2 days. Our new windows look fantastic which my wife is thrilled about. What I was excited about is that I noticed a small reduction in our bills a month after they were installed last summer! Also buying my doors and windows from the same place was really convenient, which I don't think other fiberglass window manufacturers do. I've already recommended Fibertec to my friends and family and would gladly tell anyone else to buy from them too.

    Window Replacement

We live in a 100 year old farmhouse and keeping it comfortable, especially in the winter and summer months, was always hard. The windows hadn't been replaced for nearly 30 years beforehand and were rotting from air and moisture leakage. We wanted windows that would keep our house comfortable and last a very long time. I looked for the highest energy efficient ratings and read all the industry experts opinions and found Fibertec mentioned quite often. After I spoke to their sales rep (who was really great) and had somebody come out to our house, I was really impressed. That was over a year ago and installing their windows and doors has made a huge difference in our home's comfort. All our friends comment on how beautiful they look. I'm happy to recommend Fibertec to anybody looking for high quality windows for their home.

Windows and Doors for An Architect's Home

Being an architect, I have specified Fibertec Windows and Doors on other projects and was eager to install them in our home. I was not disappointed when we did. As designers of Environmentally Integrated Homes, the window's air seal, insulation value and durability and the most important things however, as a homeowner, equally important is good value. Fibertec products strike a great balance between performance and affordability making it an excellent choice.

    Window Replacement

I thought I would begin this letter by saying how easy it is to impress people with our new Fibertec windows. How often can you point out that your windows are U=0.18! Everyone is also amazed when I tell them that the windows on the south side and north side have different low-e coatings. Setting aside the specs that put these windows among the very best that are available, the next selling point is how good the windows feel. Solid is an appropriate adjective for these windows. The opening/closing and locking/unlocking is very smooth. The framing crew who installed our windows usually does high-end houses in the area, and they said that these are easily the best windows they have ever installed. They were also the heaviest! While it did take several months to finalize our window order, this was mostly because I was looking at several options ... and because I had a very large order! Steven Hall was very patient throughout the process. On more than one occasion I asked him to re-price everything with different features. In addition to explaining all the technical aspects in detail, Steven also made suggestions on window sizing and placement and pointed out several code issues related to bedroom egress and tempered glass. I never had to wait long for a return call or e-mail from Steven. Our windows were done earlier than originally specified. The payment process was very straight forward. There was a slight miscommunication regarding when to ship, but the trucking company was able to delay delivery until we were ready. The shipment arrived on a large tractor-trailer. I'm not sure when the decision to go with such a big truck was made, but it worked fine for us. People with smaller streets would want to watch out that the delivery vehicle is not too big. The packing for shipment was excellent. I received three 8 foot pallets fully enclosed with 1/2" osb plywood. Windows were placed in these crates with packaging material that ensured a snug fit. Windows were also individually wrapped and had 2x4 blocks to keep the nailing fin off the ground. I did not find any problems with what was delivered and all windows also looked perfect and operated flawlessly upon installation. I was originally very concerned about the fiberglass finish. On the one hand I wanted performance, but I was also being "lectured" about aesthetics. I ended up with the standard white finish for casement windows. I am happy to report that they do not look anything like vinyl windows. We felt that a different exterior color was going to cost too much, but it turns out that the white exterior looks great. On the interior we will have painted window trim, but do not plan on painting the window frames at this time. We think the windows will blend in nicely as they are. From my many conversations with Steven, I am confident that if we have any problems in the near future, Fibertec will take care of us. We have not yet moved into the house. At some point after we move in, I'll have to take the spec sheet off of the windows. At that point I hope that we can just enjoy having great windows. I'll continue to tell people about U=0.18, but I think the windows will also continue to make a good impression all by themselves.
