    New Outlets in Condo

We wanted to add two new electrical outlets in our condo and move the location of one cable outlet. Captain Electric arranged approval with the management, modified the circuit breaker panel as needed, installed the outlets and even cleaned up afterwards. The work was done expertly and quickly, and they provided a certificate of inspection too. We would wholeheartedly recommend them to others!

    Answer from pro:

Thank you John and Judy. We were happy to be of service. Two things that you mention are very important in working in condominiums - Approval from the Condo Corporation and an ESA (Electrical Safety Authority) Wiring Permit. Thank you for choosing Captain Electric. We hope to see you again when you need our services. ...bw

New breaker panel and circuit wiring

We had a circuit that kept tripping over a number of months and had lived with it long enough. We had Dan and his apprentice come in to look at the issue, turns out the previous home owner got a little creative in wiring his basement and it was causing significant overload on the one particular circuit. Dan took some time and presented us with a few options. Ultimately we opted for the new breaker panel with surge protection and some spare breaker slots to assist with future home Reno’s. Dan and his team returned to undertake the work, were all very knowledgeable, and friendly. When they can across small issues they always presented numerous options and even asked if I wanted a coffee when they went on a Timmies run. We have future electrical work we need to undertake and we 100% will be calling Captain Electric in to undertake it. Thanks for all your efforts.

    Answer from pro:

Hi Treviano, thank you for your review. Yes, handyman wiring can be very creative sometimes. We often see overloaded circuits, improperly wired and not to code. Your new panel allowed us to have the circuit capacity to solve this issue, and to provide ample space for future circuits. Surge Protection is always recommended, to help protect electronics within the home. We look forward to seeing you next time. ...bw

Quote for future work & Repair of a discovered electrical short

Had Captain Electric come out to the house to give us a quote on installing new light fixtures and ceiling fans. We have aluminum wiring and we wanted the job done properly. They pulled light panels, switches, and outlets to see how things were wired. While here I asked if they could look at the front hall light and outdoor lights by front door and garage as they had stopped working a couple of days ago. Nate and Zac were terrific investigated the cause and traced it back to an outlet. They discovered that an outlet had shorted and the wires had arced causing the wiring to melt. Rewired the outlets and switches to make them safe. Both Zac and Nate were professional, went out of their way to educate my wife and I about aluminum wiring and why they would recommend rejuvenating/upgrading the outlets and switches and make them code compliant. They were at our home for 4 hours at least 3 of which were dedicated to finding and repairing the problem to their satisfaction and code. Both were very professional and knowledgeable and we will definitely use Captain Electrics services again. The quote we were provided with is reasonable and the dedication shown to finding and fixing the electrical issue while here outstanding. Just a great experience! A big thank you to Zac and Nate!

    Answer from pro:

Rob, thank you for your review. Aluminum wiring was used extensively in the early to late 1970's for new home construction. We always educate our clients on the concerns with Aluminum wiring, and options to make it safe (such as: replace all devices, remake all connections throughout the home, install ARC-Fault breakers, or rewire with Copper wiring). We were happy to be able to solve your immediate problems you were having and to make the circuit safe, and to install the new fixtures. Thank you for choosing Captain Electric, and we look forward to seeing you again. ...bw

    Replaced Fuse Panel

We bought our house about 3 years ago and wanted to replace the fuse panel. In 2017 we noticed that one of the fuses was actually sparking and getting really hot. We knew it was time to call in an electrician. I had heard multiple ads for Captain Electric on the radio and we decided to call them. The were on time, reliable and very informative. We had them come for an estimate and we were able to get the fuse panel converted to a switch panel, it was labelled for us and we have the surge protection as well. Very happy to say we feel much safer in our home. We will definitely be calling on Captain Electric to do more in our home.

    Answer from pro:

Thank you for your review. It was a wise decision to replace the fuse panel in your home. The problems you were experiencing (sparking, and hot) are problems that most homeowners will have with a fuse panel sooner or later. *** Fuse panels are now considered "antique" compared to the advantages and added safety features that a modern circuit breaker panel can offer. Features such as ARC-Fault and Ground-Fault protection, and Main Panel Surge Protection are available, and can be installed in a modern "circuit breaker" panel. We were happy to be of service, and look forward to seeing you again when you need us. ...bw

replacement of faulty switch and installing surge protection on main panel

Kevin came to our house and performed the service quickly, professionally and very much to our satisfaction. He was polite, informative and a wonderful representative of the company. He answered our questions fully and gave us useful information about other electrical areas in the house. We would definitely recommend Kevin and this company to others.

    Answer from pro:

Thank you Susan for you review here on Homestars. It is nice to hear that you found us to be polite and professional (after all - no one likes a grumpy service person in their home lol). As a team we truly believe that our clients should be treated like family, so we need to be kind and considerate, and to take the time to explain and educate about the electrical system in their home. This allows a person to make an informed decision. We are happy to have been of help to you, and look forward to seeing you next time. ... bw

2nd Floor Laundry and additional outlets

Needed work done quickly - From initial phone call to work complete - two business days. Couldn't have hoped for better. Site left in clean shape. Second time using Captain Electric - Exceptional business integrity from all members of the team (apprentices included).

    Answer from pro:

Thank you Ross. It was our pleasure to be of service. Thank you for mentioning the initial phone call. Our Client Care Representatives (we call them our CCR's) are there to help, and schedule service calls for the team. We do our best to schedule and complete work in a timely fashion. Clean-up is super important too, after a job is completed there should be no evidence left behind that we were ever there. We appreciate your review, and hope to see you again, when you need us. ... bw

Installed dining room light fixture, 2 dedicated circuits and receptacles and main panel surge protection.

Electrician Ryan and Apprentice Nathan installed my dining room light fixture. Later, I had Electrician Kevin and Apprentice Nathan return to install 2 dedicated circuits and receptacles and a Main Panel Surge Protector. I was very pleased with the professional approach taken on both jobs. They called before arrival, came on time, put booties over their shoes and covered my areas with blankets before starting their work. Their work was excellent, they cleaned up everything before they left, and beyond their work, they were very nice, friendly guys. Diane, who handles the scheduling was also very knowledgeable and pleasant to deal with. I would definitely use them again.

    Answer from pro:

Thanks Marilyn, we appreciate your comments. Your home is your castle (so the saying goes), and we respect that. Protecting floors is very important when we work in a client's home. I'm happy to hear that you also found our people friendly and pleasant to deal with, we do our best. We hope to see you agin, next time you need us. ... bw

EV installation - without a hitch!

The Captain Electric crew came to my home for a consultation, and after performed the installation of a level 2 EV charging unit. I found the team (both the booking team on the phone and the electricians who came to my house) to be: - courteous - clear - professional - extremely pleasant I was very happy with their work. The ESA performed their inspection a couple of days after installation, and told me that 'everything is perfect.'

    Answer from pro:

Thank you for your review GMB. A Level 2 EV Charging Unit is the best way to charge an Electric Vehicle. Charging at the higher voltage of 240 Volts is much faster than plugging into 120 Volt. We appreciate your comments on our team being courteous, clear and professional. We look forward to working with you again when you need us. ... bw

    Light fixture installation

Had Captian Electric install two light fixtures. They were quick and properly installed the units but they're a little expensive. After seeing how it's done, we can lightly install ourselves next time.

    Answer from pro:

Thank you Kat. You are correct - some basic Light fixtures are something that a homeowner can install themselves. The Ontario Electrical Safety Code allows homeowners to install 2 things in their home without acquiring an ESA permit - Light fixtures and Switches only, as these are deemed very low risk by the ESA (The Electrical Safety Authority of Ontario). Some people choose to install these themselves, and others choose to have professionals install them. I would agree with you that you could likely install a basic light fixture yourself. We hope you would consider calling us back if you have something more difficult and beyond your scope of ability to install. Thank you for choosing Captain Electric. ...bw
