    Outdoor light repair

Keith and Cody did a great job diagnosing and fixing the problem of my outdoor potlights not turning on. Additionally, they were on time, courteous and cleaned up any mess. From start to finish took the job took approx 2 hours. Afterwards Cody explained other possible issues with my electrical panel and other safety improvements. Overall the service was excellent and I would definitely recommend their business.

    Answer from pro:

Thank you Iggy. We appreciate your commenting on our being on-time, courteous and cleaning up afterwards. ***Being on-time is very important. No one likes waiting around all-day for someone to show up. We schedule appointments within a 2-hour arrival time slot. A 20 minute call-ahead lets our clients know exactly when they can expect our electrician. ***Being "courteous" is equally important. We appreciate that our clients chose Captain Electric (they didn't have to, they could have called someone else). ***As for "cleaning up" ... that is our final impression that we leave with our client. If we performed our job well, but did not clean up afterwards, we probably would not be invited back. It all stems from respect for your our client and their home. We are proud of our team at Captain Electric, the care they show our clients, and all of us really do appreciate your comments. We look forward to seeing you again. ..... bw

    200 Amp upgrade

Required a new 200 amp service upgrade from old 100 amp fuse panel (some aluminum some copper). Decided to go with Captain Electric based on many great reviews and they have also done work in our neighbourhood. Kevin and his team were great, did an excellent professional install. Also went with whole house surge protection. A bit pricey however well worth the service. Highly recommend.

    Answer from pro:

Thank you Frank, for posting your review. ***Upgrading an Electrical Service from fuses to a "modern" circuit breaker panel is always a wise choice. Increasing the service size to 200 Amp is also a very good idea, especially when thinking of future additions, such as an in-law suite, rental apartment, or Electric Vehicle Charging Station. We are very happy to have been of service for you, and look forward to seeing you again in the future for any additional electrical work you may need. ... bw

    ESA certificate and pendants

We first hired Captain Electric when our insurance company asked for an ESA certificate. Enrico came to our house and fixed all the various problems and we were given our certificate without any issue. It was such a smooth experience that we contacted the company again when we needed to have new pendants and a pot light put in. Both times, the service was very timely and professional. The office staff is also very courteous and helpful. This is why we have recommended this company to family and why we will use them again.

    Answer from pro:

Thank you Myriam. *** Insurance companies are aware that older homes often have some electrical problems. They are looking for a "clean bill of health." Having your home inspected by a qualified ECRA licensed Electrical Contractor is a first step to making your home safe. Once any problems are identified, they can then be corrected. A permit issued by the ESA, and an inspection gives the homeowner "peace of mind" and will satisfy the insurance company that there are no serious risks to insuring the property. We provide the insurance company with a letter (stating the work that was completed), and a copy of the Certificate of inspection from the ESA. Thank you for taking the time to review our company, and we look forward to helping you, your family and friends when needed. ... bw

Upgrade to 200 Amp service & whole house surge protector

Needed professional electricians to address an overloaded circuit, add whole house surge protection and upgrade to 200 amp service. Dan, Dave and Zac arrived on time, immediately got to work, did an awesome job and left our place spotless! Will recommend them to friends

    Answer from pro:

Thank you Atul. We appreciate your comments. Leaving a client's home in spotless condition is a top priority for our company. All debris and garbage being removed from site, and a full cleanup is part of every job we do. Thank you for choosing Captain Electric, and we look forward to serving you again whenever you need us. ... bw

Electrical Panel Upgrade - overhead lighting

In October, 2015, I had pot lights installed on my main floor by another electrician. I started to have this intermittent flickering. The electrician was of no help. In January, I had my electrical panel upgraded to 200amp service, and also had overhead lighting installed throughout my house, hoping that would eliminate the flickering. No such luck. Now into March, the flickering continues, but Kevin and the team at Captain Electric have been amazing. They have been working with me and Whitby Hydro to help troubleshoot this issue. They have truly gone above and beyond my expectations. The whole team at Captain Electric is fantastic.

    Answer from pro:

Thank you for your review. The issue with the flickering lights is certainly something that needs to be corrected, and it has been identified as an outside problem with rapid voltage fluctuation (either with the transformer or smart meter). We are happy to help as much as we can with the Local Distribution Company (Whitby Hydro). This should be resolved very soon. ... Your new Electrical Service, upgraded from 100 Amp to 200 Amp and going from Fuses to Breakers prepares you for increased electrical loads in the future - items such as a Hot Tub or Electric Vehicle Charging Station. Thank you for choosing Captain Electric, and we look forward to seeing you again. ...bw

    Outlets,switches,fire alarm

Professional, prompt, thorough, efficient and courteous. From my first contact with this business explaining what I needed, I felt I was dealing with a company which not only supplied competent electricians but also had a very friendly and helpful front office staff. Everything about using this company reinforced my feeling of having made the right choice in utilizing them. Enrico and Cory did a great job. Sometimes you just get lucky and find the right business the first time you need and use them. Any future electrical problems I have I will definitely call them and will also recommend them. Thank you guys.

Our front office staff is on the front line to help our clients, to put them at ease, no matter how serious or how small their concern may be. We are here to help. Being friendly and compassionate, even sympathetic to our clients concerns is big part of their job. ...Thank you too, for mentioning our electricians as being "competent." All of our field staff are members of OCOT (Ontario College of Trades). Our Electricians are 309A Certified. All our apprentices are also Registered with the Ministry of Colleges and Universities. Our team is very experienced with residential electrical systems because we do this type of work every day. We also do have a great deal of experience in new construction, commercial and Industrial work, but our primary focus as a company is in helping "homeowners" like yourself. ... we hope you do not have too many electrical "problems" in the future, but we will be here to help if you do. Repair outlets, new GFCI outlets, new hardwire smoke/carbon minonoxide detector

We recently bought a house 38 years old and against our better judgement we didn't have a home inspection done as everything electrical seemed to have been updated. There was a concern with our bathroom light and outlet so my husband said to call in an electrician. After researching electricians on Home Stars I chose to call Captain Electric because of their lengthy credentials and great reviews. Dave Wilson arrived and I had him inspect every electrical outlet in the house. What really impressed me was that Dave had me follow him around during the initial inspection and he not only showed me but thoroughly explained what was not up to code and a potential danger to us. He was very efficient and professional and luckily yesterday he was able to repair the most crucial concerns we were facing at the moment and gave us a quote on all the rest of the work that needed to be done. My husband and I feel very confident that we have chosen the right professionals to come back and finish what needs to be done. When all the work is finished we will finally feel safe in our new home having chosen Dave at Captain Electric to do all of our electrical repairs. Connie

    Answer from pro:

Thank you Connie, we appreciate you sharing your experience on Homestars. We are in thousands of homes every year, and many times the homeowner is not really aware of electrical safety issues. It is our duty to inform our clients of any dangers, to offer solutions and options, and to make repairs where needed. Not everyone appreciates the value of safe electrical installations, so it is always a pleasure to work for someone like yourself who does. We look forward to seeing you again when you are ready, and we thank you Connie for choosing Captain Electric. ... bw

Mast Repair and Fuse Panel Upgrade and Misc Electrical

We have used Captain Electric twice within the last month. Once was for an emergency, where we lost power when a tree fell and damaged the mast on the house. The other instance was for a fuse panel upgrade and other miscellaneous electrical upgrades. In both instances Dan was the lead on the job. Dan was very thorough in explaining what needed to be done, what the options were, what the costs would be under each scenario, how long it would take and what the benefits and risks involved with each. There was no pressure ever. From the office staff to the crews, everyone that we dealt with was professional, polite, thorough and considerate. They were on time, on schedule and the job site was left clean. When the job was complete Dan showed and explained everything that had been done. The first crew was Dan, Dave and Kevin and the second crew was Dan, Cody and Enrico. We also dealt with Diane, Kierra and Todia from the office. We have used them twice already and would definitely use Captain Electric again and have already recommended them to several friends and family. Thank you to the team at Captain Electric

    Answer from pro:

Thank you Katrina for your comments. It is important to treat our clients with respect and care. Keeping appointments, arriving as scheduled, completing our work safely and efficiently are part of what we do every day. We are very proud of our team and how they treat our clients, because this is crucial to our success as a company. We look forward to being of service again, whenever you need us. ...bw

    Repair of damaged wiring

We had some electrical wire damage behind the wall in the basement from some unwelcome critters last winter. I called several other companies only to get voicemail machines. When I called Captain Electric I was answered by and extremely pleasant person who immediately coordinated a visit, went over how payment and service would work and then called back to confirm the appointment. Unlike most other companies, the electrician actually showed up right at 9 am (not "sometime between 9 and 12), gave me the full price up front after reviewing the issue, showed me all of his work and went over the follow up in detail. Easily the best experience I have ever had with any trade. I would absolutely recommend Captain Electric.

    Answer from pro:

Thank you very much for sharing your experience here on Homestars. We believe that answering the phone professionally is very important for any service business. Being pleasant and friendly is how we want to be known, and I am glad to hear that you really appreciated this. . . . We also believe that since the homeowner is the one paying for the service, they have the right to know the details as to what service was performed. We are always happy to answer any questions, offer suggestions and any options, and explain the work that we do. ... Thank you for choosing Captain Electric, and we hope to see you again when you need us. ,,,bw

    Fuse panel upgrade

With the recent renovations to our house it was apparent that our fuse panel was not up to the task. We chose to go with Captain Electric to upgrade our panel as they were by far the most professional company who we had quote. Their staff took the time to explain what needed to be done, why it needed to be done and what options we had. The quote provided to us was in the end exactly what the job cost us. I'm glad to know all work performed was done in the best way possible and increases the value of my home.

    Answer from pro:

Thank you Rob. We believe it is very important that we always educate our clients so that they know why and what needs to be done, and always provide any options that are available. In our business, a quote is not an estimate, rather it is a guaranteed price, up-front and straight-forward and it will not change. Rob, thank you for your review, and we look forward to seeing you again when you need us. ... bw
