    Refinishing a Desk

The guy that they sent to our house to give us a quote overvalued the desk, and said that it was worth anywhere between $25,000 and $70,000. He spoke to us as though we didn't know anything about the value of our furnishings, and insulted us about the things that weren't antiques. We felt pressured to sign a contract on the spot, so that we could use a coupon we had been given. We should have trusted our gut! We have tried to call several times over the last 6 months to ask about the progress of the piece...none of our phone calls were ever returned. We had to drop in to the shop unannounced, and then they didn't want to show the piece to us. At that time they tried to upsell us to pay more to fix the sticking drawers. We thought that came with the almost $3,000 price tag. Is that not part of the Restoration cost? Are you telling me that we're paying $3,000 to refinish the desk? Apparently so. Months pass by and we still have yet to hear anything, so we call...no return phone call. We have to drop in to the shop again. The desk has the top removed and and is covered with dust and tape, where it hasn't passed quality control. It obviously hasn't been touched in months, and the drawer inserts are missing, and the refinisher has no idea where they are. We are told that it will be ready in a couple of weeks. A month goes by and still nothing. It was supposed to have been delivered last week. We get a phone call saying that it is "Refinished to the best of their abilities." We get there to pick it up and it has a piece of plywood over the top of it...it's a leather topped desk, and is covered with cans of stain, and has water marks all down the side of it because it's sitting beside a door to the outside that is always left open. To boot the top is screwed on sideways and the drawer inserts are still missing! We voice our strong feeling about their workmanship, if you can call it that, and ask for a discount, as the desk is still not ready, to which we get a snotty response from the now 5th person we've had to deal with...apparently they have a high staff turnover rate. GREAT! I would NEVER recommend them. They have terrible customer service, shoddy workmanship, and I just plain don't trust them!

reupholstery of our sofa and the refinishing of our end table

Dear TMC Restoration, my husband and I are both very thrilled with the reupholstery of our sofa and the refinishing of our end table. The standard of work is obviously very high, it reminds me of the kind of look that I saw in the high end hotels and Royal Castles in England. Thank you for all your hard work.

    Dining Room & Bedroom Set

Dear TMC Restoration, Wish to thank you all those that worked on our bedroom furniture, dining table and chairs. Also a great thanks to Audrey and the other girl (who’s name I forgot) for letting me come in on a Saturday to pick out my fabric for my chairs. I appreciate it very much, again to everyone a job well done. Yours truly, Maggie Stewart

    Antique Restoration

I was initially hesitant about repairing the piece because it is an antique and I have heard different philosophies as to whether to restore antiques or not. As this item is a family heirloom I wanted to enjoy it rather than sell it, so after extensive research I agreed to an in-home estimate. Michael, the individual who visited my home, discussed the repairs and process thoroughly with me. He certainly is the right salesman for you to have to go out and meet clients! Of course being apprehensive about the whole thing I was pleasantly surprised with my newly restored table. The workmanship was excellent, thank you for contributing to my pleasure and satisfaction with the work. Now I will be able to enjoy the table for many years before I pass it down to the next generation.

our table and 4 chairs were picked up January 14, 2010, 3 months later they were returned to us and we paid by bank draft, would not accept credit card. Two of the chairs were still squeakie. They pick the 2 chairs up for repair within 3 day and we have been promised delivery and 4 different occasions, todate we still do not have a delivery date. Employees have not followed up on returning calls and when confronted they are SORRY for the delay that the chairs of in the QC department. I have requested today June 1, 2010 to speak with the owner/manager and this person is to call June 2, 2010. We paid in good faith.

    sofa reupholstry

Before using TMC, check out the company's reviews under [competitor name removed-- Ed] This company has had bad press, so now they've changed their name to TMC. If I had known this, I would have been warned by all the reviews under its old name. Tip 1: never agree to the first price offered. The salesperson will drop it by more than half, even he has to stay well past midnight on a school night to do so. Tip 2: the warehouse people will call you for things they just discovered are wrong & need to fix, no matter how much you thought had been included in the agreement. They too will drop their prices many times & they will be very, very, very persistent. Tip 3: don't even bother hoping for remnants. No matter how many times you remind workers that you wanted them, they will throw them out. Tip 4: They are very polite. This doesn't mean they won't still try to get more money out of you. Remember, they charge you based on how much they think you make, not how much the project costs. Overall, I didn't like how many things were not included in the price when I signed the contract. The company should hire someone with a little Microsoft Excel experience to create a spreadsheet for all possible costs so that people know what they're getting into. Spreadsheets can adjust for different sizes of furniture. I could easily create one in under an hour if they gave me the information. This way, the customer won't feel scammed when the warehouse people keep calling. Also, what's with the sales pitch? Come on, this is Canada. Canadians don't like overinflated prices that keep coming down. Just be direct & offer a standard price instead of games, PLEASE. The work they did was ok, but I ended up with 2 panels instead of 1 (though I ok'd this later, it would have affected the fabric I selected had I known in advance). Additionally, the shape of the cushions came out angled when rounded would have been much better. In fact, the one corner is so angled that it actually points up. I'll take it apart myself to fix it though. Please, check out their reviews under [competitor name removed -- Ed] before deciding to go with them.
