We had hired DBK for a bathroom reno, building upon their Tub Special. We added some features like 2 grab bars and a niche. The design and the workmanship of the carpenter, tiler and plumber was excellent, I would give it a 5 Star. However, we had problems with the management when things departed from a smooth flow of things. If the reno involves the removal of tiles and drywall, an asbestos test has to be done on the drywall and drywall compound to ensure that the workers doing this, work in a save environment. Unfortunately, our test turned out positive. This apparently happens often when the building dates from before the mid 1980s. In this case, DBK assigns the removal and disposal part of the work to a subcontractor who specializes in this work. I was amazed at the cost of doing this necessary work, but on my own called a contractor who normally does this kind of job, in order to get a typical cost for such work. I was given a typical price for a typical installation around a bathtub. As it turned out, the contractor then realized that I was talking about the job contracted to them by DBK and gave me the exact cost they had charged DBK. My dispute with DBK concerns the large difference in these prices. So, my advice to potential customers of DBK is, if you have a building built before the mid 1980s and might therefore have asbestos in the drywall or compound, BE AWARE and pay close attention to what you may encounter dealing with DBK management.

I was very pleased with the bathroom reno by DBK. The staff were great, the craftmanship was solid, the reno started and ended within the planned timeframe and was finished within budget. The main worker on site was Charlie and he was very reliable. I recommend the Designer Emily who was resourceful, patient and who made excellent design suggestions that fit my tastes and the style and age of my home. One of the great features of DBK is the Projector Coordinator role. Sheilagh contacted me every day to let me know who was coming, at what time and what they would be doing. When any changes had to be made, she contacted me promptly with updates. It was very reassuring. I recommend DBK for your bathroom renovation!

Every project has many turns and twists, and front-end design is central to a successfully finished product. Our experience with DBK, starting with a very talented, experienced, and professional designer, Tanya was exceptional. Tanya had the experience and ability to look at all the small details, proposed different options and guided us in choosing the best overall design. The design was backed up by a great construction & installation team, starting with Kim who guided the on-site installation, ensured we were always keep in the loop with scheduling and/or on-site challenges coupled with two proactive project managers; Dominic and Sheilagh. Great until they get your last payment. Then no matter what happens you are on your own. Rude and aggressive general manager. No solutions ever offered. Customer is always right? Not with these guys who believe the customer is always wrong. Steer well clear of this company unless you want to be left with a serious case of buyer's remorse.

We approached Distinctive to do major renovations on our 30 year old home: expand the ensuite bathroom, gut the main bathroom and powder room, make the main floor open concept by removing a structural wall and re-imagining the kitchen, update the fireplace, and replace the flooring on our main and top floors. Having never done a renovation of this scale before, we wanted a business that could handle the project from end-to-end, ensure that everything was done properly and to code, and that could provide guidance on the form and function of design elements. Distinctive shone in all elements. Working with Vida on the design and planning was a treat. Because of the project scope, we did it over several sessions across two months, with feedback and discussion in between. Vida was very knowledgeable of both the design and function of the elements we were considering for each room and was able to guide us through picking materials, appliances, and fixtures that would be stylish but still last. We especially appreciated her eye for detail and ability to communicate a vision for each room. She encouraged us to consider design elements we wouldn't have thought of and we are so happy we listened! Additionally, the plans and cost estimates that we came out of those sessions with were detailed and transparent so we knew what we were getting into. When work started, out project manager Sheilagh kept us updated on when workers would be at our house and how long each element was expected to take. Because our house would be unliveable during much of the renovation, she worked with us to optimize the schedule to accommodate our needs and minimize the amount of time we'd be away from home. This became especially important when COVID hit and all businesses had to shut down. Despite this happening in the middle of our renovation, Sheilagh was able to coordinate temporary fixtures and expedite critical work so we wouldn't be stuck without a place to live while we all waited out the lockdown. All of the folks that did the heavy lifting (literally and figuratively) of the renovation were all professional, friendly, and experienced. In particular, the foreman Brian had an incredible eye for detail and high standards. We were always happy with the work done and Brian made sure of that, often before we knew there was an issue. As with any project of this scope, there were issues that arose here and there, but Dominic (the general manager) handled them very well, with great communication, and entirely to our satisfaction. Finally, the billing and payment options were very flexible, and Veronic made settling up the invoices effortless. It's been a couple months since the work was finished and my wife and I still comment daily to each other how much we love the new space. I unreservedly recommend Distinctive!

We renovated our kitchen last summer and the products and services provided by Distinctive surpassed our expectations! They were kind, courteous, professional, helpful but above all their attention to detail made the process stress free. We love our kitchen and would recommend this company to anyone looking to upgrade their home with a fresh new look with quality products and an awesome team of contractors!

July 29, 2020 From start to finish our experience was amazing with DBK. Shanna was wonderful, kind and patient with us through the entire design phase. We were so happy she was there to guide us through the process. She was able to take our ideas for this new bathroom and make them reality. We are so thankful she was there to help with material selection, it turned out even better than we expected! Sheilagh the project manager was awesome. Very efficient and organized, we always knew what work was being done each day, we really appreciated her daily schedule updates. She certainly took the stress off our shoulders. The DBK crew... Well we can’t say enough about them, they are truly professionals. The crew was extremely respectful, punctual and highly skilled. Their workmanship is just stunning, we can’t be more pleased with the results. They were a great team of people doing amazing work. We LOVE our new bathroom. We have had 3 bathroom renovations done by DBK all designed by Emily Meechan. Our latest project was our Master Bedroom and ensuite. We are thrilled with the results. Emily was very approachable and attentive when it came to listening to our preferences and incorporating them into the design.

My husband and I embarked on a kitchen renovation project which consisted of a complete gut job of our current kitchen and a re-model. It’s a project that we had been talking about for a while but it was so overwhelming to me and I just had no idea where to start. So, my husband kindly started doing some research and looked into reviews of various renovation companies and the glowing reviews for Distinctive Bathrooms and Kitchens (DBK) is what lead us to them and we are so pleased that it did. Our designer, Julianna (Anna), was a saviour for us and made what is generally an overwhelming experience, much easier to cope and deal with. It was actually enjoyable! She respected our budget and made sure that any recommendations she made for products were well balanced in terms of price point and style. She was always super quick to respond to any of our enquiries and her suggestions were always very insightful. It didn’t matter what our question was about, she was able to lead us in the right direction, whether it came to appliances, kitchen stools, pendant lights, paint and anything else! There are so many things to consider with a kitchen, many of them that I didn’t even know about, and Julianna was able to open our eyes to the many possibilities. Some of our favourite features in our new kitchen are a result of Julianna’s thoughtful recommendation (recycle center, spice pull-out, in/under cabinet lighting and the list could go on!). She was invaluable and certainly helped alleviate any concerns that we had throughout the way. The project itself was actually better than we had anticipated. Of course, it wasn’t a walk in the park having been without a kitchen for about a month, but we managed quite well which was impressive as we are a family of four with 2 young kids. Fortunately, DBK had everything scheduled to a tee which meant little to no delays. Michel, who was the main installer, was so meticulous and thorough. We definitely appreciated having him on the job. He was friendly and efficient and was clearly focused on ensuring our satisfaction with the end results. Dan, who was responsible for all of our tile work (flooring, backsplash) was fast and friendly as well. All of the people that worked on the project were kind and competent. It’s obvious that DBK has hired a good set of specialists to work for them. We would highly recommend hiring Distinctive Bathrooms and Kitchens for your next renovation project. They strive to make their customers happy and the quality of their products and craftsmanship will certainly make you happy with the end results. We will definitely be hiring them in the future for other home renovations.

Motivated by our 100% positive experience working with the construction crew and talented Designer Vida Kiani at Distinctive Bathrooms & Kitchens on our extension project and full kitchen and dining room remodelling in 2018 - we contracted them in late 2019 for a remodelling of our entrance foyer (tiling) and Powder Room. The result in the attached photos speak for themselves. Not only did we wind up slightly under budget (always fun when that happens), the project was started earlier than expected and finished in a week. We are now planning the next project with Vida and DBK for 2022!! Can't wait!
