    Landscaping

It was a pleasure to work with Lou'ay and his crew. Not only was this company the most economical choice, it was the best choice. The courteous and skilled crew created beautiful results. My whole property is transformed. Highly recommend Burl-Oak Landscaping.

    Outdoor Patio and Walkway

I could not be happier with the overall experience I had with Burloak Landscaping. I only regret that it took me this long to write my review. I contacted Burloak Landscaping along with a few other high ranked landscape companies in Oakville to quote an install of a stone walkway and steps in the front of our home and a patio in our backyard. Not only did they provide the most competitive quote but, they promised to have the work completed in just a few weeks time for my daughters first birthday despite their busy schedule. The crew was pleasant, efficient (completing the job in just two days) and did a wonderful job of cleaning up the property placing new sod and mulch around the stoned areas (their higher priced competitors would only seed). The walkway, steps and patio looked wonderful immediately after the completion allowing me to entertain our guests outdoors. They were considerate in working around our schedule, helpful in the design and planning process and did an overall great job! Thank you Lou'ay and Mark!

Hello Alicia. Thanks for the recommendations. I am glad that everything worked out fine for your daughters birthday and you had a great time. We aim to make this process as care free and fun as possible and I am extremely please to have achieved that with you. Have a great summer.

    Interlocking walkway,patio,porch

August 2014 Burl-Oak installed an interlocking walkway (front & side of house), installed interlocking pavers on the front porch, and installed an interlocking patio in the backyard. Total cost came in as quoted and the price quoted was in-line with two other quotes I received from other contractors. The project took a little longer than estimated but the result was worth the wait. The work crew was very polite and friendly. They kept the early morning noise to a minimum, something I really appreciated since I was on vacation during the work and wanted to sleep in. Only complaint, the crew could have done a better job tidying up the work site at the end of the day and disposing of their garbage. Overall I am very happy with the way the project turned out.

    Answer from pro:

Thank you Julian for the great review. We certainly enjoyed working on your project. I am glad we let you sleep in. I am sorry we were not vigilant in our clean up. We will endeavour to make sure that our clean up going into the future is as satisfactory as we can make it. Over all we are happy you are enjoying your patio.

Landscaping, Lawn Care, Snow removal, Outside maintenance

Burl-Oak Landscaping has been our contractor of choice for outdoor maintenance of facility for the last several years. Their service has been fantastic and it has been a pleasure to deal with both their staff and their sales manager. They are always friendly and do great work - our lawns look beautiful in the summer and we can always count on the driveways to cleared of snow in the winter by the time we arrive for work. I highly recommend Burl-Oak Landscaping and look forward to our continued relationship. Gavin W. National Dry Company Ltd

    Interlocking stone

When my wife and I decided to get some interlock done in our front yard we had Burl-Oak Landscaping come highly recommended from a friend. I was extremely pleased with the quality of the customer service we got from Mark and work that Louay and his team did on my house. I would whole-heartedly recommend Burl-Oak to anyone.

    Answer from pro:

Thank you Mr. Van Veen for the review. A lot of people don't understand that we as a company are also consumers and rely on contractors to do work at our construction yard and homes. We know and understand the importance of a friendly and courteous face. I am happy that you chose us, and will continue to serve you in the years to come should you need anything else.

    Backyard landscaping

Back in July of this year, we decided that we'd like some work done on our backyard. We had a budget in mind, and proceeded to use Homestars to locate our landscape contractor. Within minutes, we had identified several candidates (that appear both above and below Burl-Oak's listing...), and had set up initial meetings to get quotes. Suffice to say, Burl-Oak was the ONLY one who took our quote and designed something to fit our budget. They sat down and explained what work would be done, how it would be done, and when it would be done by. Louay was both professional and approachable i.e. a nice guy who really, really knows his stuff. The end result was something that looks fantastic, and we're quite happy with. In the end, we had a small budget that Burl-Oak was happy to work with (rather than being condescending like a few of the others on this list), and never made us feel like they needed to finish our job quickly/in a rush in order to land bigger fish. Great work and great people.

Thank you Maurice for the review. I am happy that you are pleased about the back yard. I recall we damaged some asphalt on your driveway and had to fix it. I am very happy that both the patio and the repair we had to do are most satisfactory. The fire pit we built looks great and we will prominently display it on our website. Thank you again.

    Deck removal & New patio

Scope of job in my backyard: 1) Deck removal (`550 sqft) 2) New interlock patio with Kensington stone (~600 sqft) Positives: 1) Friendly crew 2) Excellent Workmanship - Very pleased with the quality of job done! 3) Trustworthy - Delivered all items agreed upon and threw in a bit more. 4) Cleaned up my backyard and driveway before leaving and replaced damaged section of my lawn... which looks better than before! 5) Competitive pricing. 6) On-Schedule - Despite 2 rainy days, the crew worked really hard to make up for loss time and finished the whole project within the committed timeline. Negatives: 1) None. Overall, they exceeded my expectations. Will definitely call them back for my next project. Thank you Mark and Lou'ay!

    Driveway

We had flooding in our basement in March which was mostly caused by sinkholes in our driveway. We contacted Burl-Oak as we had seen their trucks in the area doing other similar projects. Lou'ay came and suggested re-sloping the driveway and installing interlocking permeable pavers. His crew worked hard and did a great job. They removed several truckloads of dirt and made sure the water would flow toward the street and away from the house. Even though the weather and frost caused some delay, everything was finished very promptly. Lou'ay also co-ordinated with the municipality about a new culvert to be installed (city guys did a great job too on our new headers). We love the look of the new driveway and have had many compliments on it from several neighbours. I would highly recommend this company for your project. We will be contacting them again soon to do a patio in our backyard

    Answer from pro:

Hello Ms. Kennedy. Thanks for the great review. I am glad your basement is dry. We have installed multiple permeable driveways over the years and find them to be great alternatives to asphalt and pavers, while providing you with an environmentally sustainable product and well as beautifying your home. In the end it looks great and we appreciate the photos you sent us.

    Interlock Brick Driveway Widening

I met with Lou'ay from Burl-Oak Landscaping for a small interlock job I needed done at my new home. Based on the stellar reviews here on Home Stars of this company, I met with Lou'ay for a quote and to discuss the job. Their price was similar to other quotes I had received, and had a good feeling about Burl-Oak, so we contracted with them. This was back in May for a job that wouldn't be started until early July. There would be a few months in between booking and doing the work, so there were a few conversations with them during this time. Now, 3 months after the completion of the work, I am not totally satisfied. Things did not go exactly as I had hoped. I had asked that Lou'ay be onsite during the work, and asked that this be added to the contract, and I was assured that he would, so writing it in wasn't necessary. He had also suggested that we meet him at a nursery near by our home to decide on the Bricks, as it was better to see them in person as opposed to the catalogue. That never happened. There was also a price discrepancy between what he quoted me via text before meeting to write it up, and what he wrote in on the agreement. He had stated that the chosen brick was the same as others we considered, but wrote in the contract that it was more. At the end, he did honour the price as I had proof of the original price. It felt like I was always chasing them for updates and to get information. Granted, they are busy, but I do not feel that I got their best on this occasion. During the install when he did show up, I overheard him telling his worker, that he was doing a :"terrible job" and proceeded to fix it himself. He did not send us his best skilled labour, only inexperienced part timers, with the exception of one gentlemen. At to that, the brick is not the colour we chose; it is faded and dull, and only shows its colour when wet. Not their fault, as they did not manufacture it, but still adds to the level of let down. And now, 3 months later, I have already had to re sand some of the joints, where the sand/cement compound is already coming out, leaving large gaps along the driveway. When I brought this to their attention, I was told, that he did not manufacture the compound, so what are they using an inferior product for? With a two or three year warranty, I am still not really sure, what it will cover. If I am already having to re sand 3 months in, I am fearful for the future, and what problems might arise, worse yet, will they be covered? The work was a little sloppy as well, with compound still stuck on the driveway where they overfilled. I don't think that we saw their best, and I am not sure that I would recommend them.

    Answer from pro:

Hello Mr. Burke. I am sorry you feel let down about your project. When I had originally gave you the quote we quoted you on a particular brick and told you the one you chose was comparable. It was 10 cents more expensive so that is where the difference came from. I made that clear to you when I wrote the contract. But didn't argue when you asked me to change it because I felt your satisfaction was in our best interest. You asked me to be on site and I understand why you would want something like that. But I also I formed you I run two crews, one for excavation and back filling ( un skilled labour) and one for laying and brick work (skilled labour). I assumed you would understand that I supervise the skilled labourers and not the labourers tasked with digging. I was on site for the entire time of the brick laying, and even laid the majority of the brick . I do not recall having a conversation regarding part timers (we have no part timers) or terrible workers that I sent to your home. That seems both Counter productive and silly. I have followed up with you several times to see if everything is to your satisfaction and you have never mentioned anything about the poly sand curing on the driveway. I will certainly come out and fix it but find this review a bit unfair as you did not give us any chance to rectify the problems inherit in our work. As for the sand it deteriorates naturally and we informed you it does so over the next 2 years and you will have to replenish it from now until then. We even left you a half bag of sand because we know that is the course it will take. Again I find this aspect of your review to be unfair specifically when we informed you about this and is even written on the back of our quotes about what to epxect from polymeric sand. Going into the future I will be more vociferous with the process from start to finish. We have certainly learned a lot from this experience and apologies again for your bad experience with us. We will continue to serve you over the next three years to ensure the structural integrity of the driveway stands the test of time.
