    Great job and great service

From the beginning Loy Ay and his team walked me through the process and helped me pick the stone for my project. The project was a big and complicated one, with multiple levels and retaining walls, and it turned out amazing! Even years later when innvetible settling had some stones sunken a bit, Burloak responded to my request and patched up the issue without delay, grief or cost. Highly recommended!

Thanks C for the wonderful review. We lived working on your project and even though elements of it where a challenge, in the end it came out amazing. we'll be sure to swing by soon with our photographer to get some photos.

installed patio stones and walkway at the side and front of the house.

solid workmanship, completed the project on time and budget, were easy to do business with and had a great team to work with. also provided excellent advice on configuration, materials, and various options for our back walkway. i really enjoyed working with Burl Oak and will definitely be using them for future landscaping work.

Interlock for backyard, front steps and side pathway

We chose Burl Oak Landscaping after meeting and getting initial quotes from 3-4 other high rated vendors because we found Mark to be the most professional and on the ball than the others. The start of the job was delayed for a bit but happy that Louay and team were able to come out and finish the job efficiently before the end of the season (Nov 2019)! Louay and Tony were great at leading the team and ensuring good quality of work was completed. The entire job completed in about 4-5 days as they had estimated despite the cold/rainy early winter weather and they always cleaned up the job site at the end of each day. When we realized that we needed another window well, Louay was able to purchase the materials as well as the same window well covers. Overall, the initial review of the work completed we are happy with but we will have better opinions once we get to enjoy and experience our new backyard this summer!

    Driveway interlocking

Extremely professional work done from quote to finish and cleanup. All the details were discussed in advance and concerns addressed. Didnt even have to be at home to look over them or ask for cleanup. I had to put one less step and the price was adjusted without even asking. Highly recommend Louay and his team for the professional workmanship in interlocking. Keep it up!

    Front walkway

Mark was super helpful in providing options and guiding us through the process. Fast turnaround as they could fit us in end of season. So happy with the end result and definitely recommend. Workers were polite and professional, quick job.

    Great looking driveway

Enjoyed working with Louay and his crew. Mark did a great job managing expectations and helping make the right material choices to get the look we were wanting. Communication was open and timely. Refreshing to have a crew do what they said they would do, even when the boss is not on site. Would recommend Burl Oak to others and look forward to working with them on future projects.

Shabby Job and Poor Customer Service

Louay and his crew did my landscaping last August (2019). The workmanship of the job is very poor. My front porch stairs are uneven with a variance of 4 inches between the highest and lowest step. After feeling unsafe on the stairs, I checked with the Brampton Buildings department and an inspector confirmed that my stairs were a safety hazard and were not meeting building code. Louay refused to fix my stairs to code and was only willing to change the caps to lower each stair, which according to the inspector would improve the situation but not fix the problem. Louay claimed that this happens all the time in the industry and that I would "just have to live with it." Louay also messed up my water feature and flower bed. The back of our yard is considered a waterbed and his sales rep Mark assured us that they could fix this by applying a gravel bed and installing a weeper pipe to drain the water. None of this was done, even though we were charged for a weeper pipe and have never been reimbursed. Now every time it rains, we have a flood in our backyard and all the dirt is also running into my waterfall, which was not properly elevated to avoid this from happening. In addition, he left all of the electrical cords and controller for the waterfall laying on dirt under a rock causing the waterfall to constantly short. We had to have our electrician build a box and attach it to the fence (something that was actually recommended in the instructional manual for the waterfall). I'm almost certain that all plants will be dead this season due to their roots drowning in the swamp land (see pics). When I talked to Louay about my stairs after researching the code and getting second opinions, he yelled at me that I had insulted him by going over his head, so he didn’t care about me or what I thought or wanted. All we wanted was a professional job including safe stairs! His sales representative Mark was super nice at first and even spent extra time working out the details of our job. However, he is clearly a puppet on a string because as soon as Louay was refusing to be reasonable, I was no longer able to reach Mark. I had to call him on a different number in order to get him and then he brushed me off, stating that he didn't know what was going on and would have to talk to Louay and would get back to me. Eight months later, no call from Mark. You might also want to know that Louay's warranty only covers a problem once, so if there is a particular problem with his work, he will only come back to fix it once and after that it’s your problem (just ask to see the fine print on the back of the contract and don’t believe Mark when he says that this is not true because it is Louay's words not Mark's that holds any weight). There were many other issues with this job; however, I think I’ve made my point. I found Burloak Landscaping on Homestars, but I made the mistake of not sorting the reviews from the Lowest to Highest review. If you do that, you will see that Louay is not so nice as soon as anyone questions/challenges his work. In short, this has been a horrible experience and we have paid a lot of money for a very shabby job. I would not recommend this company to anyone. Addendum to my initial review: I see that Louay has completely changed his response to a more customer service friendly one after I pointed out his attitude elsewhere. That's great! I feel that I need to stand up for myself as he continues to state things that are not true. I have never tried to get an upgrade for free. I simply requested that the stairs be made safe with whatever materials would work. Also, the uploaded pictures were taken in the fall, not the winter. All the leaves were probably starting to fall off because of the season change and/or maybe the roots were dying from all the pooled water. At this point, why would I contact you for any work when you swore and yelled at me, told me you don't care about me or what I think and accused me of trying to "suck your company dry." After I requested that you fix my stairs to code, you stated that you didn't get the final cash payment, which was not true. You already also said no to correcting the weeper pipe/drainage problem and stated that I would get a minimal credit back since you already "excavated the area." I note however, that no credit has ever come my way. I hope that you are able to take this as a learning experience on how NOT to treat your customers.

    Answer from pro:

Hello Lynn. I am sorry we did not meet your expectations on this job. It is certainly our interest to make sure that everything we build is detailed in scope on the contract as best as we can. We did complete the project according to plan, with the added extra of having planted a large 45'x6' garden in your back yard at cost (which was not included in your contract). We accompanied you to Sheridan Nurseries and helped you pick out plants and where keen to give you the yard you wanted. You met ark at the site of our supplier and picked out all the stone in person and then e-mailed Mark you choices for the brick to be used. Everything went well until a couple of weeks after we finished your project. You informed us of a conversation you had with a city official. The issue you have with the height is because we are trying to accommodate a rise of 33". unless you pour cement and custom make the form, then there is no interlock product that will accommodate that height evenly that also meets city code. When you informed me of the problem I offered to rectify the problem immediately by replacing the caps which would help rearrange the variance in heights and make them err on the low end of the city variance. You informed me you wanted to speak to other professionals and will be in contact shortly. When you did reach out to us more than a month later, you demanded we show up the same day and completely replace the steps we built with another product (even though it would have given you the same problem). A product that was considerably more expensive than the original you had chosen. I noticed your attitude change when I was firm that we could not come out the same day and the best we can do without adding more cost to you is to replace the caps with a similar but thinner step cap. I also informed you that there would be a delay since we are not in the area. It seems to me, that when I stood my ground on this issue, as well as other items you wanted that where out of scope from the contract, for free, you did not like my answer. Our contract is very clear for all who read it. There are 7 different places to sign on the document. Regarding the fine print you speak of, it is not Fine. It is written in the same size font as the rest of the contract, in plain English (not legalese) and is a very common clause in almost any service contract in this industry. We have hundreds of clients that we work with every year. A lot are repeat clients. I am sure you can understand why we have to stand firm on our ground when people ask us to do work for free that is above and beyond our contract. As a business owner we cannot provide free work, because I would not be around here today if I did. I am sorry you felt that you did not get your money's worth. That being said you have the option of uploading pictures of work that show our poor workmanship, which I noticed you did not. Should something be defective we will honour the warranty, as we have with the hundreds of previous clients we have had. I hope you have a wonderful summer season and get to enjoy your backyard and everything we built for you. Best of luck.

    Backyard patio, porch, driveway, fence.

We booked the work around Nov/Dec for the following spring. The project took about 2 weeks to complete, which was longer than originally anticipated but weather played a major factor. There was quite a bit of rain and some days nothing could be done. The team was very efficient and removed the existing walkway, porch, backyard patio and fence. Several guys worked every day with the help of machinery, but there was plenty of back breaking hard labor too. Most of the time was spent in the removal and preparation of the site. Once everything was level and prepared with crushed stone and underlay, the interlock goes pretty quick. The company brought their own refuse removal bin on site and removed it every day, which was convenient. They also cleaned up every day to make sure no bylaws are violated and the impact to our family was minimal. We had to make some changes during the course of the project and the project manager/owner was reasonable and even credited us back where the change would result in a reduced cost. We used the same company to do the fencing, although the fence company is subcontracted. The fence was not cheap but it was done with 6x6 posts and is much better than the cheap and nasty stuff the original builders but in there. Overall we are satisfied with the work and the service provided. Like any complex project, there were some issues here and there that had to be addressed, but it got sorted out.
