radiator moving and replacement in 1950s home

During home renovations I had Chris remove and cap a radiator, and replaced a basement rad in my 1950s home. Chris was able to supply a used cast iron rad that was is great shape. His price was reasonable and his efforts courteous and professional. He was flexible enough with his time to return in the evening weeks later to finish up the job due to a renovation issue caused by another contractor.

    Answer from pro:

You can't beat the heat output of cast iron radiators! We usually carry enough sizes for most needs. I'm glad you're happy with the radiator in the basement. We try to accommodate our customers schedules.

Replaced all the old valves and bleed knobs on our radiators

We needed all the valves and bleed knobs changed on our system as most were not functional. Kris has always been quick to reply and professional. He is very knowledgeable about Rads. He makes sure things are done properly and stayed and waited in his van so he could double check the seal on a valve before leaving. I will always contact Kris for my radiator needs.

    Answer from pro:

Having functioning radiator valves is essential for providing comfortable heat in a house and is practical to do if the valves are as old as the house (in some cases 80 - 100 years old). That way many potential leaks are prevented and you can control the heat for each radiator. Don't forget to open and close the valves at least once a year.

Replaced 2 rads with new and relocated one to basement

Kris is competent and reliable and did a great job replacing the rads in my home. He took care to be tidy and clean and was exceptionally courteous. His hours are not flexible however, no evenings or weekends. No exceptions (he is by the book on everything). But we made it work.

    Answer from pro:

Its not easy to please everyone's schedules but we do what we can. Thanks for writing a review!

Annual maintenance and inspection of boiler.

We discovered Kris on Homestars and initially used him to fix a radiator that stopped working. He is very knowledgeable, experienced, nice and trustworthy. His rates are reasonable and often below those of large competitors. We used him again this year for our annual maintenance and will only use him for all of our future heating needs.

    Answer from pro:

We like to fit in the little jobs when we can, we're glad to of service to you and look forward to long term business relationship.

New Boiler and hot water tank, in-floor radiant heat and radiator relocation

Kris was knowledgeable, professional, courteous and extremely accommodating. His helper and plumber were also very competent and polite. During a very stressful renovation, Kris went out of his way to accommodate our ever changing schedule and worked long hours to keep our project moving.

    Answer from pro:

It was a busy, but enjoyable job. You have a top notch heating system now. In-floor heating and cast iron radiators combines the best of hydronic heating. Every homeowner should care as much as you do about their heating system.

    Installed complete radiator heat system

I did a large amount of research before deciding on Kris and Denmark Mechanical, and I couldn't be happier with our experience and the end result. Due to my husband's asthma, we decided to convert from forced air to radiator heating (with beautiful refurbished Victorian radiators from Addison's; also highly recommended). It was a huge job, but working with Kris really minimized the hassle. Kris is a consummate professional. He is punctual, pleasant and even-tempered; steady and hard-working; has a great eye for detail; prices his job fairly; and at every stage of the game, from planning to execution to follow-up, manifested complete expertise. He thought very carefully about how to best run the pipes and where to install the radiators; each (massively heavy) radiator was perfectly positioned and without any damage to our original wood floors; he recommended and installed a beautifully running, quiet and efficient water heater and reserve tank. And the end result is to die for---all winter long we couldn't stop talking about how cozy and pleasant the radiator heating was. I recommend him most enthusiastically, with no reservations whatsoever.

    Answer from pro:

Hi Jessica, thank you for your appreciative review. I always like to install beautiful refurbished radiators. As you found out, radiant heating is comfortable, efficient and healthy. A good heating system should be a priority in every home. Building a heating system from scratch takes time, planning and a lot of hard work but I do enjoy it a lot. I will have to get in touch with you soon.

    valve replace

We called up Kris after reading many positive reviews on Homestar. He showed up quickly for a site visit and provided a reasonable quote. I messed up the appointment time and he was very flexible to accommodating our last minute change. We are very happy with Kris and his team, will def recommend his service!

    Answer from pro:

We're glad we could be of service to you on short notice. It isn't always easy to be flexible especially in the busy fall months but we try to accommodate whenever possible. Thank you for writing this review.

    Heating relay and valve repairs

We called Kris to fix a problem with the lack of sufficient heat in our house addition. He diagnosed the cause and then came with his assistant, Alex, to repair a relay and to install new valves on our cast iron radiators for better heat control. He was very professional and pleasant, and the price was very reasonable, I would call him again for any furnace-related issues, and I highly recommend Kris as a Heating/Cooling contractor.

    Answer from pro:

Hi Kathie, thanks for writing this review. Many times replacing a few old radiator valves is all thats needed to have even comfortable heat in an older home heated with radiators.

    Boiler and general plumbing

Kris is the best plumber we have ever dealt with. He provides quick service, charges reasonable rates, and, most importantly, he fixes the problems whether large or small. I give him my strongest and most unqualified endorsement. P. Lee

Thank you for the endorsement. We try to please all of our customers all of the time. Pleasant people like you make it easy for us. We look forward to being of service to you in the future.

    Boiler System Repair

Kris provided a very reasonable quote for our boiler repair (needed a new pump, replacement of old pipes and valves) and gave us a timeline that he stuck to for completing the work. I was impressed by his knowledge and thoroughness. On the day the work was scheduled he and his assistant were on time and completed the job as per our agreed price. Clean up was well done and the repairs are great.

    Answer from pro:

I'm glad we were able to get your heating up to speed. Radiant heating is the most efficient heating there is. But an older system needs some attention after 90 or 100 years :)
