We required drawings and permits to remove a load bearing wall for a kitchen project. Yu was incredible from beginning to end. YCL measured, provided structural drawings and obtained permits. Yu was so flexible and patient with us as well.

We needed a structural engineer to draw up plans for taking down a wall and making our window bigger in our kitchen. I called Yu Ching (after calling some of the other guys on homestars) who told me a bit about himself and asked me a few questions about our plans before we made an appointment to come see the house. He was very knowledgeable and courteous when answering my questions. I found out through my research that he worked for a very large a reputable company for a long time before starting his own business, which made me feel comfortable with his experience. Yu Ching arrived on time and again asked me a few questions to find out more about my place and what my ultimate plans were. Not only is he knowledgeable but he also gave me some great pieces of advice of how i could go about accomplishing the plans for my home. He was able get all the measurements and have the plans to me in such a quick turnaround time as well. He also applied for the permits for my home for me so that saved me time and traveling and made this whole process stress free. In the end Yu Ching delivered the Permits for both building and plumbing and I was able to get on with my project very quickly. I think Yu Ching provides a great service for a reasonable price, if you're a homeowner like me that wants to get things done RIGHT but at a fair price, then call YCL, you will be happy you did.

Our condo board stipulated that we needed a structural engineer to assess the feasibility of installing an awning over our terrace since it would be installed on a common element wall. Yu promptly responded to my email request. I was able to send him the necessary information, and he followed up by doing a site visit within a few days. Yu provided us with exactly what was necessary and within our very tight timeline. He was professional and thorough. Thanks Yu!

We hired YCL structural to prepare underpinning permit drawings for our project. Yu Ching has quite a bit of experience in doing underpinning design for homes that are in close proximity to each other, which is quite common in Toronto. We needed his expertise in this area because the original engineer we hired was only proposing a bench design which would've taken away valuable livable space in our basement. The design and permitting phase went very smoothly with the city and YCL worked very well with our contractor to get the job done quickly and efficiently. In addition Yu Ching assisted us with a beam replacement he tailored the design to work with our specifications. We would not hesitate to hire YCL Structural for any future projects.

Hi, YCL is a cost-effective engineer for any home structural inspections. We contacted Yu Ching in June 2016, response was fast and scheduled home visit within 2 days. My house has a 4' wide wall in between kitchen and living room, I would like to remove it so that I can have some what open concept kitchen. He inspected load bearing walls, structural beams in the basement and also explained me in details about his findings. Yu Ching is a smart and professional person with impressive qualifications and experience.

YCL expertly and smoothly handled the engineering design and site inspections for our conversion of a sand filled crawlspace into a full height basement. The challenges of digging out a basement in an historic semi detached home required various problem solving and a hybrid of benching and underpinning. Although there were a few surprises which are not uncommon when dealing with an old structure, YCL addressed the issues with solid and timely solutions. We couldn't be more pleased with the results. We hired Yu Chin to work on the structural drawings of our kitchen as part of House and Home Ikea Kitchen renovation contest in the spring of 2016. Yu Chin managed to do an outstanding job in very little time, understanding the time constraint of the project. He also managed to ensure that permits and the amazing amount of paperwork needed was prepared and delivered within a week. Furthermore Yu Chin obtained revised permits within a few days. On top of his professional abilities and experience, Yu Chin is a very fair, decent, pleasant and kind person to work with. We would certainly recommend Yu Chin’s company to anyone planning renovations or construction projects.

I hired Yu to complete the structural drawings required for the permits to underpin my basement. He was great at explaining the process and walking me through all of the different documents that I would require to submit my building permit to the City of Toronto. The drawings themselves were great; both my contractor and the Building Department staffer at the City of Toronto commented on the quality of the drawings, which I believe led to a speedy permit approval. As part of the scope, I also asked Yu to do drawings for a future wall removal on my first floor, which he added for a minimal extra cost (which saved me from having to pay the full set of fees again). Based on the quality of his work and the fact that he answered all of my questions (and I had quite a few!), I would definitely hire him again.
