We're extremely unhappy with Canadian Pro Interlocking / Joe's work ethic. Joe took the money and didn't finish the job.
In April 2024, we hired Joe to replace the existing 2-level deck with a new one. According to Joe, this job should've taken 3-4 days.
Joe took 50% of the contract cost on signing the contract and another 40% or so when the materials got delivered.
Joe did a good job for the first 2-3 days and demolished the
existing decks and almost finished putting the lower deck by the end of April.
After that Joe and Jeff disappeared. Now, 10 weeks later they haven't come even once and Joe keeps on making excuses about being sick etc. It has reached a point where he doesn't even take our calls or responds to texts. He only picks up the phone when we call him from a different number and then he promises to come and then he doesn't come. We know that he is not telling the truth about being sick because he continues to post his other completed projects on instagram.
We haven't been able to go out from our patio doors as he has left the scaffolding, ladders, planks, some tools, and brushes on the deck and adjacent patio . We haven't BBQ'd this season because it is inaccessible and we haven't even been able to sit outside at all.
Joe left the bin with the demolished deck sitting on our interlocked driveway for at least 6 weeks even though we asked him several times to move it. Joe finally got the bin company to remove it but the interlocking where the bin was sitting has sunk.
Joe also left the new composite decking planks sitting on our lawn for many weeks until we had to move them ourselves and thats When we found that there were maggots growing in the ridges of these planks.
That is how long Joe left them on our lawn and now our lawn is also damaged.
We gave Joe a final ultimatum to finish the work by today (July 12) and he hasn't even bothered to respond to that message. Now we are left with no other choice but to find another contractor to finish this work. It feels like we've been robbed because we already paid him almost 90% of the
contracted amount and he has only done 50% of the work.
We have not even been able to pay the contractor who placed a Gas shut off valve under the deck as Joe did not provide an estimate for how how much it would cost to make the access hatch in the deck for the valve. This is a contractor that Joe himself recommended and now even he is suffering because of Joe.
We only chose Joe because somebody recommended him and now Joe doesn't even take that person's calls. He is such a gem.
We'll have to find and pay another contractor to install the upper deck. Then we'll take legal action against Joe and his company for damages. Such a horrible experience.
Needless to say, we won't be recommending Canadian Pro Interlocking / Joe to anyone.
