No hot water coming out of my taps, what could be the issue?

We had a leak in our attic from the water tank, which got fixed. The next day, our shower caused the float valve to break, flooding water out of the overflow pipe. Managed to fix the float valve but now we're not getting any hot water from any taps in the house, though the cold water is fine. The shower only works if we start it on cold and then switch it to hot. I thought it might be an airlock and tried some troubleshooting with the taps, which brought water out of the overflow again, but it didn't fix the issue. Any suggestions on what to do next?
