This will avoid having two floors which could potentially fail in the future and allow you to address any issues with the subfloor such as squeaks. Shoemold could be added if you wish to leave the baseboard in place, removing it will require some wall painting as the floor will be a bit lower. The only concern you may have is at your doors. If your door jambs have been cut to install the current laminate, there will be a small gap.

Highly would suggest to remove it, first you do have the chance to swee what is going on, under your flooring, for example mold, mildew and floor damages that could be fixed. If there was such an incident, or something poured into the cracks, smell is gonna remain there, so better remove the stain and do the floor on top of plywood, or might even end up removing that plywood. Third reason is weight. You would always want the load on the house to be lighter, you want to add weight to the house, you remove weight from the house! There are no short simple answers to most of the questions here. The answer is: Depends! If you want a good and warrant-able job done you should NEVER install anything on top of a FLOATING floor. Laminate IS a floating floor. Period. Having written the above, physically you can do whatever you want. It is all about your expectations and frankly your budget. NO professional should ever do this for you at any price, but if this is what you want and don't care about the possible future consequences, it can be done, but not only by having it glued down as I read in another answer here, but floating it as well. at the very least in a perpendicular direction (90 degrees to the direction of the current flooring). Again, NO professional should take money for this and do it, but physically it is possible. Why not.
