Should I install vent covers to prevent moisture and mold problems in my home?

Hi there, We've just bought an old four-bedroom semi-detached house that was pretty run-down with serious damp issues. To top it off, it’s got some old stucco, which might be adding to the mess. We had the roof redone, hoping that would solve most of the damp problems but since the chimneys weren’t fixed at the same time, it didn’t help much. We eventually decided to remove the chimneys because a lot of water was getting through and the room underneath was the dampest. The walls are starting to dry out a bit now so we're making progress. We’ve been advised to put one or maybe two air vents in each room to help with air flow and condensation. My question is, would two air vents per room help with the condensation and dampness or would that just make the rooms too chilly? Also, what kind of air vents are best for inside and outside the house? Should they have plastic pipes? Can I use air bricks instead of air vents, or should I install both? Maybe add some air bricks near the roof too? Also, our basement gets a small puddle when it rains heavily but it dries out on its own. Is that normal? Should something be done about it? Any advice and suggestions would be really appreciated!
