How to get rid of a lawn full of ground wasps

This is the fourth summer these wasps have come back! We’ve tried ammonia and wasp spray but nothing's worked. We have a big maple tree in the yard and the lawn's pretty dry. I'm stumped about what's drawing them in. How do I get rid of them for good? The wasps cover the whole lawn so we can't even enjoy the garden during the late summer! Any help would be appreciated!
