Can I install a cap on my gas line to seal it off?
Anonymous user 08/10/2025 - 4:41 PM
We’ve swapped out our gas stove for an electric one. There's a gas line with a shut-off valve, which is currently off. The issue is, with the valve in this position, we can't push the new oven all the way back against the wall. Can I put a cap on the pipe and then turn the valve back off so we can move the oven back, or do I need to call in a professional? I know it's a quick job and the part is cheap, but I'd prefer to avoid extra costs! Would appreciate any advice, thanks!

It's actually required by the code ,that if the line is not being used you have to cap it as well as the shut off valve .
Yes part is cheap and homeowners in ontario have the right to do their installs and repairs however they are required to have it inspected and tag it by a professional licensed contractor.
