First off company must be experienced in remediation of older boilers system and safe removal of old.
Permitted and liability insured with no less than 20 years experience for a job of this magnitude.
To install sheet metal the basement will need to be undeveloped to hang new duct runs, joist liners for the supply and return air. Undeveloped meaning ceilings for the most part. Walls may require being opened to run new duct work , joist liners and sheet metal , wiring, new breakers and possibly condensate drain pumps if floor drains are present .
Depending upon provincial building code use of existing Chimney from old boiler may be re used but will require Chimney liners and if not hired venting will be required in an outer wall in provinces such as Alberta.
Furnace installs must follow CFAD standards for each installer so that warranty issues and entitlement of warranty are observed.
Getting quotes on materials , measurements , job schedule will need to be discussed . Retrofitting hvac into an older homes will be extremely intrusive to run new venting , ducts , risers throughout the home .
A company experienced in gas fitting , sheet metal fabrication as well as remediation MUST be considered only which will narrow your search for candidates depending upon where you live .
Skilled trades with competency experience knowledge skill training retraining should only be considered .
Lastly
Payment contracts should include a structured holdback until completion of the job . City , township and municipality need to be directly involved as well for hvac rough in , and heat final inspections to verify no infractions of code exist. This protects customer and installer as well as manufacturers from any liability.
