How to make slope to drain with self levelling?
Anonymous user 27/10/2026 - 9:22 AM
How do you level a basement floor while maintaining a slope to a floor drain? I know self-leveler will flow flat, so what’s the best method to create the pitch? Patch compound first? Screed rails? Another technique? Thanks in advance!

Self-leveller on its own won't do it — it flows flat, that's the point of it. Set screed rails or guide strips at the right height, pitched toward the drain (about 1/4" per foot), then pour between them and screed it off. Some guys build the rough slope first with patch compound, then a thin leveller coat over top to smooth it out. Either way, the slope has to be built in — don't just pour and hope. Keep the drain clear and let it cure before walking on it.
