How can I calculate the total square footage of my home?

Anonymous user 15/10/2025 - 10:47 AM

I’m trying to figure out the total indoor square footage of my home. Do I need to add up the square footage of every room, or can I just measure one floor and double it since it’s a two-storey? Also, should the attic count toward the total? We only use it for storage — it has a light but isn’t really a finished living space.

Are you a pro and able to answer this question?

Hi, to calculate your home's square footage, you can either measure and multiply length by width for a simple rectangular home or divide a floor plan into smaller rectangular sections, calculate the square footage of each section, and add them together. For most homes, it's best to draw a sketch, measure each room, calculate the area of each (Length x Width), and then sum them up for a total.  Second option is to hire companies that can do measurements for you. You may find them online.
