How long should I wait to paint over exterior stucco?

Hi, we just got the front of our house done with sand and cement render. It's January, so it's pretty chilly, and it was applied about a week ago. A painter mentioned it's okay to go ahead and paint now as long as we use a stabiliser or solvent-based primer first which is convenient since we still have the scaffolding set up. However, we've also been told by people that external render can take anywhere from 6 weeks to 3 months to fully dry. So, its a bit confusing to know what to do. How long should we actually wait before painting the new external render? And how do I check if it's completely dry? Keeping in mind that it's the middle of the cold season. Thanks a lot for the help!

You must wait at least 4 to 12 weeks for the render to cure before painting. Painting after one week in January traps deep moisture and high alkalinity, which will cause the paint to bubble, crack, and peel. While waiting means delaying the scaffolding removal, painting now will completely ruin the finish. To check if it is ready, tape a piece of clear plastic wrap to the wall for 24 hours; if any condensation forms underneath, the render is still too wet to paint.

The correct waiting time would be 6 weeks to 3 months! During the cold months it takes longer for the render to cure. In order to make sure it is safe to paint you can visually see it. Fresh render looks dark gray and damp. As it cures it will turn into a very light uniform chalky color. There should be zero dark patches left.
