Drop ceiling replacement.

Hello, I have a horrible drop ceiling throughout my entire house that I just bought. I don’t like it at all lol. However, I had a wall removed between my living room and dinning room and a beam had to be installed at the ceiling. It is a 8” board at the ceiling between the 2 rooms. It is also about 2” below the drop ceiling. I’d like it all flesh and I’m looking to figure out what my best options are, as I didn’t even think of this when I removed the wall. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi-Yes, this can definitely be addressed. The best solution will depend on what is above the existing drop ceiling and the position of the beam. In many cases, the drop ceiling and redesign/finish the ceiling around the beam can be removed to create a much cleaner and more seamless look.

A rectangular piece of hardwood or I-beam the hole process all over again it sounds like it's a mean beam load bearing dropped the ceiling or get a wider beam could fit it with crown molding

Hi there,
There are a couple of options if I understand your problem correctly.
The most cost effective is likely lowering the whole drop ceiling to cover the new beam, however, you will loose ceiling height. More costly, if it is possible in your home, is to get a smaller and wider (likely metal) beam that can be covered by the existing ceiling. It would be best to get a structural engineer to let you know the options available.
