Metal Roof
- Metal roofs are considered to be the safest and most secure roofing option when constructing modern roofs. They are energy-efficient as they can reflect solar radiant heat that can result in you keeping your cooling costs to a minimum. As they are made from recycled materials they have a minimum negative impact on the environment.
- You may have to invest a large amount of money when getting a new metal roof but they can last for decades to come and are low maintenance. This is why they highly increase the value of your property. A local roofing company can help you choose a specific type of metal roof that suits the exterior of your house.
- You can choose aluminum, copper, stainless steel, tin, zinc or fibreglass shingles for your metal roof. It can cost you up to $20,000 to install a metal roof in Barrie.
New Roof Installation
- Spring is considered to be the best season for new roof installation in Barrie as it’s not too hot or cold. If you have purchased an old house that clearly needs renovations or if you’re building a new house from the foundation up, you can ask your general contractor to coordinate the construction of a new roof.
- If you notice that your roof is damaged and can’t make the decision whether to repair or replace the roof, a local roofer can help you with that decision as well.
- If your roof is constantly leaking, if you notice cracks, gaps or holes in the roof, if your ceiling is sagging or penetrating light via small holes, if the shingles are decaying or there is damage by wind or a fallen tree, you should think about new roof installation. A local roofer will help you choose a roof for your house and help you with the installation process.
- This project can cost you up to $27,000 in Barrie.
Factors Impacting Roofing Costs in Barrie
Replacement of an Old Roof
- Replacing a roof that is 20-25 years old is a wise choice to avoid damages and endangering the safety of your family. To replace an old roof, you will need to hire a professional roofing company to remove the shingles, inspect the wooden surface and replace that as well if required. They will be able to provide you with a cost and timeline estimate based on the size of your roof, its age, the condition of the old structure and the quantity of the new roofing material needed.
Length of the Pitch
- The pitch of a roof is the vertical slope that rises from its horizontal plane. The higher the slope, the more expensive it will be as it will require more material and more time for installation. Long pitched roofs are easy to maintain and can swiftly drain rainwater to gutters. Your local roofer will be able to calculate and tell you the exact angle of roofing pitch you may require for your roof installation project.
Strong Rafters or Trusses
- Rafters or trusses are lumber frames that are used as the foundation for a new roof. Based on the size, shape and design of the roof, material and total weight, a local roofing company will build a strong structure that can hold your roof together. If you’re planning a roof replacement project, we recommend you get your rafters or trusses inspected before installing a new layer of shingles. If the rafters or trusses are damaged or weak, they won’t be able to hold the weight of a new layer of roofing material. You may have to consider rebuilding the wooden structure as well which can add to your total budget of building a new roof.
Metal Drip Edge
- A metal drip edge around the roof helps to drain rainwater or melted snow into the gutters without damaging your house. Without a metal drip edge, the water can slide right down your roof and damage the fascia as well as can cause heavy leakage in the walls. The L-shaped metal drip edge can be easily installed or replaced along with your roof. With proper maintenance, a metal drip edge can last as long as your roof.
Whether you have a planned roofing project for spring or an emergency repair during winter, a local roofing company in Barrie can help you with various types of roofing tasks. Based on your requirements and needs, the local roofers can provide you with a custom quote. You can also verify their HomeStars profile with various tools such as Star Score, verification badge and homeowner reviews. When you’re ready, contact a local roofer to help you with your upcoming roofing project.

Birds nesting in soffits and roof - how serious is this and who should I call to help?
Anonymous user 27/05/2026 - 10:39 AM
We've got birds nesting in our soffits, and it sounds like they might be getting into other parts of the roof. We heard a story from a neighbour who had a similar problem, and it turns out the birds removed a bunch of the roofing felt, leaving them with a leaky roof and a big repair bill. I’m not sure how true all of that is, but here's what we're facing: our soffits have missing plugs, and we’re definitely not keen on just blocking them out and letting them die inside. I've got a few questions: - How risky is it really to have birds in the soffits? I know they obviously have to go, but could they actually cause some serious, expensive damage? Has anyone seen major roof issues caused by birds before? - If there's a risk of damage, how should we figure out the extent of it and who should we call for help? Are we looking at a costly job where large sections of roof or soffits need to come off, or is it more straightforward than that? I'm thinking maybe using cameras on poles, getting into the attic, etc. Should we call in a roofer, pest control, or even an ecologist? - Lastly, does anyone have tips on inexpensive and easy methods to get them out? I've read about ultrasound devices and using distress calls. I’m aware of the legal aspects concerning bird disturbance, plus I really don't want to harm them. Any advice or guidance would be really appreciated!
