Having a strong roof is just as important as having a strong foundation. If you notice any damages to your roof, make sure you repair it immediately to avoid leaks and other catastrophic damages. Delaying roof repairs or replacement can be very expensive. A strong and durable roof protects everything beneath it. Recently repaired or replaced roofs can increase the price of your house substantially as new buyers won’t have to invest heavily in a new roof. Based on the type of roof you want over your head, the cost of its installation or repair will change.
You can refer to this cost guide when planning your roofing project in Toronto and ask a local roofing specialist to provide you with a custom quote.

Asphalt Shingles
-
Asphalt shingles are the most popular, affordable and easy to install roofing option in Toronto. You can choose a specific colour and style of asphalt shingle which will complement the overall exterior appearance of your house. You can choose fibreglass or organic shingles and get them in three-tab or architectural style. If you’re looking for a roofing option that you can easily customize, we recommend you get asphalt shingles.
-
Asphalt shingles usually last 15-30 years, however, the weather conditions of your area may require you to change them or repair them once in their lifetime.
Metal Roof
-
A metal roof is an expensive and less popular option compared to asphalt shingles but it is more durable and strong. As this option has stronger longevity, you can choose it if you plan on staying in your current house for decades as you may never have to replace it.
-
Metal roofs are also energy-efficient, low maintenance, easy to install and come with higher resale value. However, due to its material structure, it can cause loud noise during heavy rain. It can also be difficult to find a match if you have to do any repairs in the future and can prove to be very difficult to break through during emergencies.
-
You can choose aluminum, copper, stainless steel, tin, zinc or fibreglass shingles for your metal roof.
New Roof Installation
-
Installing a new roof on your newly built house or replacing the old one is not one person’s job. You can hire a professional roofing company in Toronto to install a new roof from your choice of material and shingles.
-
The roofers in Toronto will create a strong structure for your roof and then start nailing the shingles from the bottom. They will make sure that there is no gap between the shingles and every one of them is bolted to the roof securely.
Roofing Repair
-
Even the strongest roofs can become damaged with cracks, loose shingles, heat and water damage, mold due to saturated moisture over time, worn down roofs due to old age and any type of structural damage.
-
Based on the particular type of damage, a local roofer in Toronto will help you with the repair or replacement of your roof. They will bring heavy equipment such as long ladders or a crane to examine the roof and fix its problem. If any shingles require replacement, they will purchase them on your behalf and their cost will reflect in your final invoice.
Factors Impacting Roofing Costs in Toronto
Replacement of an Old Roof
-
In a roof replacement project, you have two major options to decide from: you can completely remove the previous roof and build a new one from scratch or layer a new roof on old shingles with your choice of material. This is a very technical decision which is to be made based on the age of your base roof, its weight, comparison in the material of the old and new roof, your budget, timeline and the climate conditions.
-
A local roofing company in Toronto can make this assessment and help you plan your roofing project considering the security and safety of your property.
Length of the Pitch
- The pitch of your roof, also known as the slope, is a cost-increasing factor. If the pitch is steep, the roofing installer will have to take more effort, require more material and will have to follow more precautions while installing the shingles. They will have to make sure that the steep pitch does not cause any harm, is fireproof and can withstand heavy rain.
Strong Rafters or Trusses
-
Rafters or trusses are wooden frames that are constructed to hold and support your roof. This structure is built to hold the weight of shingles or any other roofing material you choose. Based on the overall weight of the shingles you will be installing on your roof, the rafters or trusses structure will be more complex.
-
If you have a complete roof replacement or new roof building project, make sure you build a strong structure first. In the future replacing the whole structure will be a very difficult task compared to just replacing the shingles.
Metal Drip Edge
-
Whether you’re getting asphalt shingles or a metal roof, installing a new metal drip edge is very important to protect your new roof from water damage. Metal drip edges are installed at the very end of the roof and have an output to the drainage. The rainwater or melted snow is collected in these drip edges away from the fascia and flushed into the gutters. This protects your walls from water damage and your roof from building up moisture.
-
The building or repairing of a roof is a critical construction project as even the smallest mistake can result in heavy water damage and destroy your property. A failed roof replacement or fixing of a crack can be financially disastrous as well. A roof repair should never be neglected or pushed off.
You can quickly hire a professional roofer in Toronto for your emergency roof repairs. You can ask different roofers to give you a custom quote based on your problem.

Birds nesting in soffits and roof - how serious is this and who should I call to help?
Anonymous user 27/05/2026 - 10:39 AM
We've got birds nesting in our soffits, and it sounds like they might be getting into other parts of the roof. We heard a story from a neighbour who had a similar problem, and it turns out the birds removed a bunch of the roofing felt, leaving them with a leaky roof and a big repair bill. I’m not sure how true all of that is, but here's what we're facing: our soffits have missing plugs, and we’re definitely not keen on just blocking them out and letting them die inside. I've got a few questions: - How risky is it really to have birds in the soffits? I know they obviously have to go, but could they actually cause some serious, expensive damage? Has anyone seen major roof issues caused by birds before? - If there's a risk of damage, how should we figure out the extent of it and who should we call for help? Are we looking at a costly job where large sections of roof or soffits need to come off, or is it more straightforward than that? I'm thinking maybe using cameras on poles, getting into the attic, etc. Should we call in a roofer, pest control, or even an ecologist? - Lastly, does anyone have tips on inexpensive and easy methods to get them out? I've read about ultrasound devices and using distress calls. I’m aware of the legal aspects concerning bird disturbance, plus I really don't want to harm them. Any advice or guidance would be really appreciated!
