iPhone 6 support

I Paid $15/month for iPhone protection plan for the past 1 1/2 years. i had a very simple port charging issue that could have been fixed in about 10 minutes at a retail store. As there is no place to have a phone fixed in Toronto, i opted for the "advanced" replacement. they charged me $920 deposit (until they receive my original back) and sent a new phone. the new phone was also defective and are now charging me an additional $920 deposit for another new phone until they get this one back.

Terrible service - i plan to cancel this once all the deposits are off my card.

whirlpool washer

Do NOT buy top loading Whirlpool Washer. This is the 2nd time the cover broke in less than 5 yrs. Don't buy from Best Buy. NEVER BUY BEST BUY extended warranty. Geek Squad for these products is inefficient and rude. Whirlpool claimed they never got info. from Best Buy. Best Buy said they sent it.; then implied it was my fault it was broken. Topped it off with -I could wait 60 days for the repair!!!!!- And that's for repairman diagnostic; to see if it can be repaired or if they want to repair it etc etc. That's not not even the repair!!!

Install Harmony Remote

Job was not done properly, one input was not connected at all. And they do not stand behind their work. Very unprofessional for a company such as this, who come into your home and you pay for a service that they don not complete.

iPhoto Protection Plan

WORST PROTECTION PLAN EVER - my phone was taken and they are continuing to take my monthly payment despite there is no longer any phone to protect. On top of that, the sales people said I could cancel at any time. Please never buy any protection plan from geek squad. Others plans are way more inclusive and cheaper.

Projector and screen installation

Our projector and screen were installed on March 5th 2014. The two employees who had promised to return with a cover plate to hide the wires in our boardroom. It's been over three months and nothing has happened. I have phoned multiple times, and made appointments, but they keep getting "lost" in the system, and we keep having to reschedule. I certainly hope that this gets resolved soon.

Laptop warranty

I purchased and hp laptop from best buy in mississauga and bought a $250 extended warranty for it from geek squad. The laptop's battery stopped working a year later and after contacting best buy i was told that it could be replaced for free because it was covered by that warranty. This was confirmed by the person at the associate at best buy when i turned in the laptop. It took them two months to "fix" my laptop and when i went to pick it up i was told the battery replacement wasnt covered by the warranty and they just reinstalled the windows in my laptop and wiped all the data instead. This took them 2 MONTHS to do! They installed windows 8.0 which wouldn't updated even after me trying to do it 5 times. The windows has now crashed a month later and my laptop won't turn on.
So basically they have poor slow service and the employees barely have knowledge of their services. No point paying extra money for the warranty. I would recommand yoi spend that money on getting the repairs done from somewhere else where it would be faster and might even cost you less.

printer for new laptop

I needed a printer for my Google Chrome laptop. Since this is a new laptop for me I asked what for printer would be suitable for the Google Chrome. Showed them which laptop I had, bought the printer they advised and wouldn't you know, it is not working. Apparently you need two computers for it to work. One has to be on when you print from a cloud. Did they tell me that? A big fat NO. Will I go Back? NEVER.

Laptop Repair

My service from GeekSquad (Angrignon Plaza, Montreal) has been absolutely terrible, and I would like to warn anyone interested in using their services or, particularly, purchasing their warranty, to stay away at all costs!

Here is my experience:
After damaging my laptop, I brought it in to the GeekSquad to request an estimate for my insurance company. I was told by the GeekSquad employee that it could not be opened for inspection on site, and that I had to pay 70$ to have it sent to the manufacturer. I paid the sum, and 1hr later received a phone call from another GeekSquad employee, telling me he had just opened my laptop - clearly showing that the first person I spoke to didn't have a clue what he was talking about.

When I finally got the estimate, it was a complete joke: a piece of paper with the cost of a motherboard on it, with absolutely no indication of the specific laptop or customer. I had been very clear however that this was for an insurance company and had to be official. I would have thought that a big chain like this would know how to handle this very basic request.

I nonetheless paid for my repairs (back in December) and have since not been contacted even once with information, even though it has now been 2 months (I was told around 10 business days). I have called many times - it is almost impossible to get anyone to answer the phone and there is no voicemail. When I was finally able to reach people, I was consistently told that my laptop was still at the manufacturer's - in fact recently, I found out that it had been returned and a new problem was found, so it was shipped out again, without any information being sent to me.

I have been very patient with GeekSquad and patiently waited, but this is absolutely ridiculous. I originally brought my laptop in 3 months ago, and it has been quite a challenge to work without it. I recently emailed GeekSquad, as they will not answer their phone, and have received no reply. I will obviously never again be using their services (there are many much more competent computer repair services) and strongly recommend that you stay away from them, unless you need help with something like turning off the CAPS lock...

HDD Failure - RAM failure

This is a review only for the Geek Squad at the Scarborough Best Buy location:

I use for my business a powerful desktop, it is a vital part of my daily operations. After a crash while updating the OS, I decided to call for "at location" service but this service was unavailable until 5 business days after; I decided then to bring in my equipment to this Scarborough best buy/geek squad location. I was told by the agent that he would have a diagnostic for repair by the end of their working day (9pm) but that didn't happen.

It actually took them 3 business days to have a diagnostic for me! Apparently -and their excuse was- they they were too busy dealing with the clients and advising sales. In one of my visits to find out the status of the diagnostic, one of the agents made me wait for 1 hour because he had to sell and install an iPad screen protector!! (and I was sure that the geek squad agents were focused on equipment repairs and optimization, but looks like they are more occupied in selling stuff)

After finding out that "probably" my HDD had failed and there were "probably" memory errors, I was offered the worst possible solution. Am I not an experienced technician, but this did not add in my math:

- Swap my damaged enterprise-class 10000rpm HDD for an overpriced 5200rpm (HDD widely used in laptops) they had in stock

I was so upset by this suggestion, that I went to find the HDD myself. I purchased and brought it in for cloning in less than 1 hour so they get a feel for my sense of urgency on this repair. I was told this process would take few hours and that I'll be informed once finished. Of course no one called me, so I walked in they day after and one of the agents told me -again- that they were too busy, and the he hasn't had a chance to review the info because of the lack of the password.

That's odd because I provided it and it's was written on the work order. anyway, after finally accessing the equipment I noticed that only 2gb of the 6gb of ram were being used by the OS, the agent gave me a watery explanation and offered for me to buy additional memory (that was not compatible anyway and terribly overpriced)

I just got my equipment and got the hell out of there.

- Pros: They do an amazing job at promoting themselves as professionals and customer oriented.
- Cons: Agents have no sense of urgency, agents push too much for sales (warranties, equipment and software), there is no accountability, there is no coordination among agents, there is a clear lack of organization and communication, there are no specialized agents for hi-end equipment. The attitude towards clients asking for job updates is poor to offensive, the overall client support is poor, their solutions to problems is inadequate.
