Garage roof repair

Trent and his team came in and got rid of all the clutter and trash in our garage, cleaned it right out, fixed the roof, installed a new garage door, all in a very quick, professional, quiet manner that has my wife and I very very happy. Half the price of another estimate we got. Great job!

Kitchen Renovation

Trent and his team did our full kitchen reno in late 2010 and we were extremely happy with their service. We had the island (including plumbing moved to expand the space, got new cupboards installed (including a major layout improvement), floor tile and backsplash added, a new granite countertop and a new sink and hardware. I have already recommended Trentco Construction to a number of friends and will continue to do so whenever I get the chance. The guys were punctual, professional, tidy and most importantly provided top-notch workmanship. Tent worked with us through any problems that arose along the way and communicated timelines and any hiccups along the way with candor. He went above and beyond for a number of things - a sizing/ordering issue with the cupboard supplier that we had picked, and a not-so-level ceiling section (that's now level!) to name a few. We really enjoyed seeing them transform our kitchen as we had envisioned - Thanks Trent. I've attached before and after photos so you can see the amazing final product. (Cost noted in review includes all demo, installation and other labour as well as incidental materials. Major other materials - cupboards, tile, counter etc. extra)

Bedroom Renovation

We have had a few bad contractors and when you come across one that's exceptional, you want to hang on to them and recommend them. We had the entire bedroom gutted to the studs. Not only were they professional, fast but....very clean. Every day they had plastic up, fans going and at the end of every day, they would clean. Trent is not out to rip you off, it's quite evident that he takes pride in his work and the finished product. I can't tell you how happy we were with the finished product and look forward to hiring Trent and his team for future reno's.

First Floor Bungalo Renovation

Trent Schwieg of Trentco Construction did a superb job in renovating our bungalow. New windows were installed, hardwood floors were replaced, walls were open up, crown moldings and all trim work replaced. Trent revamped our kitchen by removing bulkhead and relaying ceramic tile, re-staining kitchen cupboards, installing new granite counters and sink.
Trent accomplished all this in a timely fashion; he also always kept us fully informed of every situation that arose during the reno, often using laymen’s terms for easier understandings.
Trent associates himself with quality craftsmen and or sub contractors. Trent and his crew went that extra mile to make sure that our reno job turned out even better then we had imagined. We would not hesitate to recommend Trentco Construction.

Thank you Trent and Crew

Basement Renovation

We had Trent help us reinsulate our basement and re-drywall parts of the basement. He and his crew were very helpful, honest and careful in all the work they performed. Trent identified key issues up front and was honest in his assessment and came in on budget. He was so helpful we hired him again to do some work on the outside of the house.

knocked out wall and created banister

We have worked with Trent many times in the renovation of our basement. Trent is reliable, and, most importantly, friendly and easy to talk to. We never felt like Trent was trying to screw us out of money and always felt like he was looking out for our best interests. The job took the amount of time he said it would take and came in at the price he quoted us. We will use Trent for all of our renovation needs in the future.

Install kitchen cupboards and add electrical outlets

Installing Ikea cupboards is something homeowners are supposed to be able to easily do themselves. But our house is 130 years old, so nothing is ever simple plus we wanted some electrical work done in the kitchen too. As a marriage saving initiative, we decided to hire Trent to get the job done.

We have had experiences with handymen and contractors, some of whom were recommended by friends and others that we researched on HomeStars, and the job gets done but we never hire them again. We're looking for someone more reliable who actually wants to do a good job. We've found that person in Trent.

The crew came when they were supposed to come, they were tidy and careful, they were fast, they were pleasant, and they did the job well.

The cupboards were installed on our not-exactly-flat wall and the base cabinets were installed on the sloping floor against the not-so-flat wall, and it looks fabulous. Our biggest worry is where to put our stuff in all the extra storage. The only hesitation I have in recommending Trent is that if he gets too popular then it may be difficult for me to book him next time - because I wouldn't hesitate to hire him again.

100+ year old Victorian Reno - Kitchen, 2 bathrooms,...

This was the first time that we were undertaking extensive renovations and had never worked with a contractor before. Thankfully, working with Trent was a wonderful and hassle-free experience. He and his crew had a great attitude and always went above and beyond for us. This was important as we moved into the house a few weeks before the project was completed and I was already 8 months pregnant.

Communication - Trent always made sure to keep us updated on the project's progress. Although we had a designer as the overall project manager, we quickly realized that dealing directly with Trent was the way to go. With a 100+ year old home, we had many surprises but Trent managed them very well.

Budgeting - All of Trent's costs were very reasonable particularly for the quality of work that he does. He was fair and always tried to find ways to cut costs while not sacrificing quality.

Overall we were very pleased with our experience and have already recommended him to friends.

Condo Floors, Bathroom, Kitchen Backsplash and fixtures, painting

Condo Renovation in Annex. Trent and his workers turn up when they say they are going to turn up and stay with the job until it is done. If Trent's workers are here, and he is going to be slightly late for a meeting, he phones to let you know. Trent also returns phone calls quickly if he cannot answer immediately. Final costs as agreed to. Floor Work: Pre-existing stone tiles(hall), carpet(living room and den) and two layers of vinyl flooring(kitchen) removed and replaced with underpadding and engineered wood flooring. Kitchen: kitchen cabinets, bulk head, all appliances and sink removed (kitchen company put in new cabinets and countertop); Trentco installed mosaic tile backsplash, new sink, faucet, refrigerator and dishwasher, additional electrical outlets and new overhead lights, and various fixtures. Altered small wall to accommodate new refrigerator. Bathroom: removed old bathroom floor tile, shower surround, vanity, toilet and linen closet; installed new floor to ceiling marble tiles throughout, new vanity with new sink and faucet and marble counter, new toilet and linen closet, new wall mirror, new thermostatic control in bath/shower and new bathroom fixtures. Soundproofed wall in bedroom, new electrical outlet in den, adjusted wall in hall and installed sliding and bifoldal mirrored doors. Repainted throughout condo. Trent tries to save the homeowner money. He found the exact same mosaic tile for me at a couple of dollars a foot cheaper and passed the saving on to me. Trent and his team are also very good at making adjustments to fixtures which I ordered elsewhere and which needed tweaking in order to fit on walls, etc. They are also very pleasant to work with and Trent is always cheerful and sure any problems can be solved(which they were). Work, except for a couple of minor items and two doors which I had ordered through "big box stores" and which came late, finished when expected. The only reason I did not give a "10" was because sometimes, for minor items, they will go ahead without checking, for example, which "white" I want for the trim, and because sometimes, if either you or they suggest changes, you have to make sure to check who is paying any additional cost. But these are minor squibbles. Many thanks to the homeowners who gave the great reviews. (Please note cost includes appliances and materials.)

What could this company do to improve their services?
Double-check before any additional work is done that the home-owner knows what, if any, will be the cost of the additional work. Check before any work, even if minor, is done that the paint, etc., is what is agreed upon or that the homeowner does not care. Clear their equipment out of the way as soon as they can. They were fairly good at keeping all their equipment altogether but I had to insist sometimes that certain items I needed (e.g., kitchen table) were available, or that if they moved it around in a certain way, then it would be much better for me. Could be as simple as moving a heavy object so it did not cover an electrical outlet.
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
Ask contractor for their licence number, liability insurance amount and company. Several contractors told me they had a licence number, but then seemed reluctant to give it to me. No problem with Trentco which is one of the reasons I hired them. I made a fairly detailed list of everything I wanted done so I could compare "apples with apples", eliminate any particular items if they were more money than I thought they were worth, and so I did not have to suddenly ask contractor to do extra work that came to much more. In future, instead of just saying install fixtures, I would list all the fixtures so even clearer.
