Carbon Monoxide Leak Repair Quote

This was an absolutely terrible experience and I caution anyone from doing business with All Time Heating or Steve. We had a carbon monoxide leak at our 2-year-old new construction home and we called All Time Heating to find out if there was an issue with our HVAC system. I spoke with Steve on the phone; my first red flag should have been when Steve had already diagnosed what the issue was over the phone, without even having come to our home or inspected anything. He presents very professionally - wearing company-branded coveralls, carrying a briefcase tool bag, handed me a marketing folder with company information, highlighted that the company was approved by the Better Business Bureau. He then proceeded to "inspect" my combi-boiler, by just touching my combi-boiler with his hands but not actually using any tools. Within a few minutes, he declared his phone diagnosis to be correct and advised that the only fix was to replace the entire combi-boiler. When I inquired why our almost-brand-new combi-boiler would be broken this quickly, his only explanation was that this was a "known issue" for this particular brand and model but he could not offer any other detail. When asked if this should be covered under warranty, he insisted it would not be. He then immediately went into "sales pitch" mode. He showed me invoices for half a dozen other clients who had purchased the same combi-boiler from him, including their names and addresses (so confidentiality is clearly not a concern of his). He then spent 10-15mins writing out a hand-written quote for ~$18,000 to install a replacement combi-boiler. He used scare tactics ("carbon monoxide is very dangerous for you and your baby, this needs to be fixed immediately") to try to pressure me to agree to the repair. At this point, the red flags were abundant and I was desperate to get him out of my home, so I paid the $200 fee he charged for a home visit via e-transfer (note: he tried to insist on my paying cash). He called the next day to tell me that another client had agreed to have their HVAC repair delayed so that my combi-boiler could be installed earlier and attempted to pressure me again into doing the repair. I called another HVAC company to investigate the issue and it turned out to be improper installation of the venting pipe by the builder, a repair that cost me ~$1000 to fix. Although I'm not pleased to have lost $200 to Steve, at least it wasn't $18K, and I hope my review will prevent someone else from doing business with this individual.
