Furnace, AC & Hot Water Replacement

05/02/2016 - So just edited my review and increased my score to 8. I had to call the company to get the humidity issue fixed, and one of their contractors came out and tweaked some settings. Less than a minute after he left, a manager called to see how everything was going and if there was anything else. Seriously good people. Cant give a higher rating because some of the problems should never have happened, but their after-sales service is 1st class.

Original review:
The sales guy from Sandpiper did an awesome job. I had Kyle from Sandpiper out to my place to quote the replacement for a 30yo Furnace, Aircon and Hot Water service. I had some ambitious plans to relocate the HVAC, and Kyle gave me the straight facts about the prohibitive cost of what I wanted to do. I really appreciated the honest approach and advice, instead of selling me something I didn't need.

Eventually, I settled for a straight replacement of my old things, and they were able to install the same week. Offered me 0% financing and 10 year parts and labour warranty.

It seems that they have some good and bad installers (who are subcontractors and not employees of Sandpiper)
The plumber did a great job with the hot water service (a tankless model on the wall) and kept the piping, vents and wiring out the way. Saved me a heap of space in the laundry and everything looks really neat.

The Furnace and Aircon guys did some good and some bad work. The new furnace and AC was installed in a very 'tight' way, making a huge improvement to the floorspace. My general contractor who was doing a renovation upstairs commented on how good the install was.

A few weeks later however, we noticed some problems with the moisture levels in the house, which had dropped so much our brand new (and very expensive!) hardwood was shrinking. After taking a closer look at the whole-home humidifier, it was obvious that this was poorly installed. There was a huge tear in the plastic bypass duct. The connection to the supply vent was unsealed (see attached picture) and the alignment of the water tray spout meant half the humidifier pad was dry.

Generally, these guys were pretty good and I would recommend them. They just need to up the quality on some parts of their install!

Furnace, AC & Hot Water Replacement

11/02/2016 - Edited down to 1 - these guys have no processes in place. The energy rebate from Toronto Hydro is closing on Feb 16, and the contractor needs to start the process for me to claim the rebate. I'm going to miss out on $500 because they haven't initiated the process! Oh, and another thing? Also found out that instead of returning my rental water heater to Enercare, it was sent to scrap. Now I'm paying for a rental because it cant ever be returned!

Furnace, AC & Hot Water Replacement

21/01 - Edited review from 6 to 4. Just found out the settings on the furnace were inconsistent with the product manual. Shocking.

The connection to the supply vent was unsealed (see attached picture) and the alignment of the water tray spout meant half the humidifier pad was dry. Finally, the wiring was to the furnace and not the fan, so the humidifier will not work unless the heat is on. No wonder the humidity was low!
