We hired Ted and his team to complete a full basement renovation, including rebuilding a staircase leading down to the basement after we had to rip out the existing finishes in order to fully waterproof after some damp and mold issues.
We were working with a limited budget, but Ted was able to accommodate our desire to use a family friend for the electrical work as we wanted to try to save against the budget for better finishes elsewhere in the basement. Other contractors that we contacted were not as flexible and wanted to only use their own team or subcontractors, but Ted was fine with our request as long as the electrical work was certified. Given that our friend was a qualified electrician, this was not an issue for us, but it was nice to see a contractor help us rather than see us as a means to provide work for his/her subcontractors.
This is the first time that we had ever gone through a renovation of any size, but Ted and his team were very accommodating. Ted assisted us in designing a new layout for the basement since we wanted to make a separate laundry closet and to make the basement bathroom a little larger (and to feel less like a basement bathroom!!), explaining where the additional work would be needed in order to fit in our requests.
The quality of the carpentry (by Andrew on Ted's team) to cap the existing bench footing and provide detailing around the basement space is really first class. The attention to detail and finishes are very high end, really bringing the space together as an alternative living room space for our family.
The basement is no longer a place where we fear spending time as it is now a warm, inviting space, courtesy of Ted and his team's exceptional work!! I would have no reservations about recommending them to family and friends for similar projects in the future.
