Classic bait and switch pricing

I messaged ahead to check for pricing for a programmable key for my vehicle. Price: $75 + tax. No problem. I drove to the shop, waited for 15 minutes for someone to see me. They took the key. I waited for another 15 minutes: the price was now $175. Reason given: "that key is difficult to cut". Well - the blanks for that key cost $60, and the cutting and programming itself only took 15 minutes (after they finally got around to it).

At least now I have a backup key that opens and closes my van door and starts the vehicle.

Approximate cost of services:
$175.00

Company Response

We give upfront prices to all our customers BEFORE we provide any service, you had the choice of not buying this key. $75 is our price for a valet key without keyless entry, and you chose the keyless entry remote key. Also, if I remember correctly you came with a 2010 Ford Transit connect which has the British style Tibbie key. The $175 you paid is a 3rd of the dealership price. The price of the part online is irrelevant to the cost of the service. You can buy a window for your car for $90 as well but you will pay over $200 to install it.
We stand behind our prices and business integrity! Our prices are highly competitive to the market and all our keys are high quality and come with warranty!
