Asphalt Paving – Install, repair, patch, and seal
- Installing an asphalt pavement or driveway is cheaper than concrete but a durable option, making it a popular choice among homeowners. While asphalt is made of small stones and gravel and bound by bitumen, black tar paving lends a similar look but is made of natural resources like wood or coal.
- With usage, it’s normal to notice cracks or damage to your driveway – the good news is patching asphalt or other asphalt repairs are seamless and can be done with ease. Cold patch asphalt is also often used to repair cracks and lends a seamless finish. To make your asphalt pavement last longer, you can also look into asphalt sealing every couple of years or so, as it helps maintain the look and strength of the driveway.
Concrete Driveways & Floors – Install
- Installing concrete driveways and floors is also something many homeowners choose as it is very durable and can last for up to 50 years. Concrete can also be customized with stains, stamps etc. making it a versatile choice.
Concrete Flatwork – Repair & Resurface
- As with any other material, concrete too can develop cracks or be damaged over time. Your paving contractor can help repair cracks in concrete driveways or provide driveway crack filler. Repairing your concrete driveway can go a long way in maintaining the durability of your driveway.
Gravel or Loose Fill Paving – Install, Spread or Scrape
- For a more natural and rustic look, many homeowners are opting for gravel or loose-fill paving. From pea gravels and crushed stone to crushed rock and edged walkways – there are many ways to lend a unique look to your paving project.
- Many homeowners also choose interlocking stones for a more organized yet natural look. If you already have one which is in need of repairs, your paving contractor can also help you with the interlock repair costs.
Paving Contractors
- When it comes to paving projects, there are many options available with regard to materials, design, area, customization etc. A paving contractor can help you know more about the available options. While the final cost of the project will depend on the specifics, an average paving project in Edmonton can cost anywhere from $800 to $16,000.
When you receive a custom quote for your paving project from contractors on HomeStars, check their customer reviews. Any paving or construction work also needs to follow certain rules and regulations, so hiring a licensed professional is the best way to go about it. What is the required depth for gravel and asphalt in a residential driveway?
Anonymous user 06/07/2026 - 2:51 PM
I'm having an issue with my contractor over our asphalt driveway. It doesn't seem to match the standard measurements I've come across online when checking different websites. The gravel base is less than 5 cm and the first layer of asphalt is around the same thickness, with the final layer being about 2.5 cm. Are these thicknesses for the layers acceptable or should I be concerned? The driveway was installed directly on bare soil. Many thanks.

Can I lay sod on top of gravel?
Anonymous user 03/07/2026 - 10:01 AM
My yard is covered with 3/4 inch stones and gravel but I'm hoping to turn it into a nice grassy area. Can I just put some topsoil and lay down grass over the gravel or do I need to get rid of the gravel first to prepare the soil before laying the grass? Any advice? Thanks!

Can I cut my evergreen tree down to half its height and still get new green growth?
Anonymous user 03/07/2026 - 10:00 AM
I'm thinking about trimming my conifer tree down to half its height. After that, it won't have much green left on it. Do you think it will eventually grow new needles over time or am I risking killing the tree by doing this? Will the tree bounce back?
