The quality of the work and speed at which our chimney was removed was exceptional once A-1 started the job. However, getting to the point where the chimney removal work commenced was painful. Bob, the proprietor and founder as I understand it, first scoped the project in June. The job commenced and was completed in the first week of October. That's an exceptional amount of time to wait for anything even if it was a small job by contractor standards. Apparently, the delay was due mostly to a lost work order, according to Kelley of A-1 who was most apologetic for the error/omission. Furthermore, we were told by Kelley Bob would call us before a crew started the work on our chimney which never happened so I was somewhat surprised to hear his crew on our roof working for which he later apologized. The crew also decided to pull their van up on our shared walkway to our door which meant they were on our neighbours property much to their chagrin. Bob later apologized on behalf of his crew but never did say 'sorry' to me personally for the lengthy delay leading up to the job start. To be fair, Bob and his crew also came to our house in September to remove the chimney, again without calling beforehand despite my request to do so. I had to ask them to return at a later date as I needed to have an antenna, that was attached to our chimney, moved to another location. All that said, A-1 delivered what was promised at a competitive price but there were enough complications & irritations throughout the process that prevent me from leaving a higher rating.

Company Response

Thanks very much for the review and your business. I do apologize for the delay in getting started. I know that Kelley had addressed this with you and your other concerns and I understand that you are now fully satisfied, which is our goal. -Bob

Colin and Corey's foundation repair crew started and completed the job on time and on budget. Their work, including Marlon who led the reparation project, was commendable to say the least. I'd happily recommend the work of the Bowen Bros. and their employees in future. Thanks guys!

What could this company do to improve their services?
It would've been nice had the the crew cleaned up after themselves at the end of the project. We had to throw out a number of items that were left behind. Furthermore, the crew didn't fully fill the hole left in our backyard with dirt as requested. We'll have to fix it ourselves in the spring. Also, the dumpster rented by Bowen that was used to haul dirt into our backyard sat on our front lawn for a couple of weeks after the job was completed.
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
You get what you pay for. When it comes to foundation repair projects, be prepared to ante up. It'll be worth it in the long run.
