FURNACE WARRANTY WORK
I purchased my Trane furnace from AtlasCare 6 years ago and have been under a service contract with them since that time. I also purchased the 10 year extended warranty and was told that in order for that to be in effect I had to also purchase a service contract. Although that didn't make sense to me, I took them at their word. Recently the furnace stopped working so I called AtlasCare. They came out and diagnosed the problem ... a failed circuit board.
The diagnosis was at no charge because I had a service contract. The parts would be at no charge because Trane would cover that, but I would be responsible for the labour. The labour charge for 1/2 hour to install the new board was $306.00 + tax.
I called Trane to check into the extended warranty and contrary to what I had been told I did not have to purchase a service contract for the warranty to be in effect. I also learned that under the warranty both parts and labour were fully covered by Trane.
Fortunately I had paid for the charges by cheque and was able to stop payment. I feel that by telling me I had to purchase a service contract (been playing for that for the last 6 years) and that I was responsible for the labour on the repair, that it demonstrates a complete lack of integrity and honesty.
