Reply created 21 Mar 2007Hi Lyn. Thanks for taking the time to provide a review. I'm Terry Cord, founder and President of DrainWorks. As you can see, I take great interest in all opinions shared, even though in this case I have to respond to some of the claims, which seem out of step with what actually happened. You state that the work done was to replace a trap under your bathroom sink. As the invoice - which you signed off in approval in advance of any work states - we also re-piped all piping under the sink as well as change the faucet. That's quite different than what you stated in your review. As for the timing, this business runs on schedules that can easily shift, for some problems are quicker to solve than others. It's our practice to never promise anything to a client that we are not certain we can deliver. On Monday following the weekend, you called again and we had an appointment time available which you took ( an hour and a half after your initial call ). I'll assume that the reason you called us again was that you were simply not able to secure an appointment with anyone else. Therefore, I would say that DrainWorks is the company that came through for you, otherwise we wouldn't have been there. As for your independent plumber and his assessment of our charges, we put everything in writing and we present it clearly for your approval. It's our practice, for we know all too well that talk is cheap. We certainly would not proceed without express signed approval from you, our customer. One more thing you should know about our company is that that unlike almost every company in plumbing, our staff are full time and salaried. They are never paid a commission for any job, and in the plumbing business, this is very rare. We take the time to do every job right and we are extremely efficient. I doubt anyone would be happy if we chose to take more time than necessary and charge less per hour, for that isn't good business and it's why we charge by the job and not by the hour. It keeps things honest. Again, I support everyone's right to share an opinion on our service, but when we feel a review is not accurate, I will try to bring balance and insight to opinions that we feel might confuse or misrepresent the actuality of the situation. When we are called to deal with an issue we always take our time and make sure you know exactly what is causing your problem and what repairs need to be done and why. That is why our camera inspection is as helpful to us, as it is informative to you. We find that by allowing customers to actually see the problems in their drain lines, it helps them to understand what needs to be done, and that helps them make an INFORMED decision about what repairs to go ahead with. The fact that our technicians are full time salary based employees rather than commission-driven temporary employees is why you never feel the pressure of being oversold on work you do not want to do. We may have suggested performing a camera inspection to provide you with a more permanent solution to the problem, but as the homeowner, the decision is yours. This is why all straightforward pricing is presented to you before we begin any work. You are always in control. I am glad that the service you received from Mike and Eric was polite, helpful, congenial and even amusing, and as you put it, just the kind of guys you needed. You are correct is stating that Mike and Eric are loyal employees. They are loyal because they believe in the DrainWorks policy. A policy that pays our technician's hourly wages rather than commission so they always have the time it takes to efficiently diagnose your problem and keep you informed from start to speedy finish. Because our technicians get pad hourly, they never quote you for unnecessary repairs. Any suggested work is always in the best interest of you and your home. This includes making sure that the disruption to your home is minimal and that the work is finished as quickly as possible. Upon completion of the job, we always provide a final inspection where we will show you all the work that was completed and where it was done. We will inspect the work to make sure everything is working properly. If at anytime we notice any other issues, we will always make you aware and will never go ahead with work that you have not previously agreed to. All of the work that was done at your home does come with a lifetime warranty, that's how confident we are in the quality of our workmanship. Once we are there it is our policy to show you exactly what the problem is and explain to you what needs to done to fix it permanently. If we do need to dig, and you have agreed to your up-front, straight-forward, written quote beforehand, we take all the steps necessary to protect your home and the worksite with tarps so that when we are finished you'll never know we were even there!
