Basement drain backed up , unable to use any water source in the house.

Basement floor drain was blocked. Drainworks responded quickly, professionally and courteously. Jeremy identified the problem and gave an accurate cost of the job. He was Able to snake out the floor drain and spot the main problem with the line camera. (luckily for us on the city side of the pipes.) Jeremy was knowledgeable, informative and helpful. Will call again if any new problems arise and Would absolutely recommend Drainworks plumbing and Jeremy in particular.

    2 leaky faucets

Keep in mind that when you call this company, you might be in for some major bills. The smallest repair job on a faucet is $159, (less the $60 fee for the estimate, which is waived if you sign with them). I gather that would be for something as small as replacing a washer. We found that they seemed to want to turn everything into a large job with a large price tag. After sending them packing, despite having to pay $80 ($60 plus tax) for their inflated estimate, we got their $800 job done for $450. Be careful about buying parts from them, such as faucets. One new faucet from them, plus a few minor pipes and parts, would have cost about $420 plus tax, installed. We bought a good Moen faucet ourselves for less than $100. The rest of their price was very expensive labour. Also, you won't have much selection if you buy through them. My suggestion is to find someone who will let you buy your own parts and just pay for the labour. Maybe other major plumbing companies have similar shocking charges, but I was horrified at what they were giving me as an estimate and did much better without them.

    Answer from pro:

**Thanks David** This review gives us the opportunity to shed some light on the particulars you have mentioned. At DrainWorks our employees are salaried and do not work on commission; there is no incentive to try and turn minor repairs into large jobs, but rather the circumstances of the issues at hand dictate the repairs required. In your situation David it is best to first address what our $800 estimate was for. It was not as you have written for 2 leaky faucets. The estimate for the 2 leaky faucets alone would have been $514 + gst, which based on what you have written (buying your own $100 faucet plus $450 of labour) is less than you paid someone else; not including the fact that you chose a top of the line faucet from us, rather than choosing a cheaper faucet which was also an option. The $800 estimate you speak of was not only to replace one faucet with a high end model of your choice including the supply and install of the supply lines, shut off valves and complete waste assembly, but also to repair a 2nd faucet and thirdly to repair your basement toilet which was running on. In addition you mention “having to pay the $80 ($60 plus tax) estimate fee” when in reality the estimate fee is $69 + GST and you had already agreed to this fee when scheduling the appointment to have a plumber sent over to make any assessments. If you did not agree with the assessment fee, which we were very clear and upfront about over the phone with you; then why book the appointment? You also suggest “to find someone who will let you buy your own parts and just pay for the labour”; and we do. This is most definitely an option at DrainWorks. Most of our customers prefer the full service of having us supply and install any fixture, which is why we do have a large selection of faucets to choose from; in fact we can get you any faucet you want, which is why your claim of “not much selection” is puzzling. But we certainly do install customer supplied fixtures. You also mention that our smallest repair on a faucet is $159, which simply isn’t true. The whole review when broken down is rather made up, a complete fabrication and distortion of the facts. We have the same written invoice you have which visibly documents these specifics.

Unplugging the kitchen sink and scoping our water main

I had a plug up kitchen sink. I called Drainworks at 8:45 pm and Matt came in 15 minutes. Fixed the sink and checked to see if it was working okay. Then he used a camera scope to check the condition of my main drain, spending the time answering all of my questions and explaining how tree roots were making it through my drains. I learned a lot about my drainage system

    Drain Clearing

We called DrainWorks to request service to unplug a toilet and shower drain. Everything stated on their website is true. I spoke to William and he had a technician at my home within a few hours. As promised William called me when the technician was on his way which is rarely done with most companies. The technician - Matt A. - was extremely courteous and professional. He quoted a price before doing the work and that is exactly what we were charged. He was very helpful in answering any questions we had and was very clear and honest. We would contact DrainWorks again without any hesitation. It is nice to know that there are companies out there that put customer service as their #1 priority.

Excavation and replacement of 4" pipe due to cracked joint

We had just purchased a resale home and had some water leaking from the drainpipe in the basement where the 2" kitchen drain connects to the 4" which goes under the floor. After 2 estimates it was clear that the joint on the 4" was cracked and would need to be replaced, which meant digging up the floor to replace part of the 4" line. Frank came out and went over the problem and solution, and also recommended a change to the layout of the drain which would help access to the cleanout when we decide to finish the basement. Walter (and his co-worker, whose name I did not catch) came out the next day and jackhammered out the floor, replaced the drain and backfilled and poured the new concrete - and did an outstanding job. He also laid out runners so there would be no mess in the house. A few days later Jeremy came out for our drain inspection (the one with the camera) and was very thorough and explained everything as he inspected the pipes. Overall I am extremely satisfied with the entire experience, from the estimate, to the work and finally the inspection. Having an excavation in your new home can be an unsettling experience but Frank, Walter and Jeremy were a pleasure to deal with. I would recommend Drainworks to anyone looking for a professional plumbing company. Oh, and their estimate (and final invoice) was 3 times cheaper than the first company's estimate, who is also rated highly on homestars. It pays to shop around! Lastly, hats off to Eddie and his company for the donations they make to Sick Kids. Keep up the good work!

    Check Valve I nstallation

After a basement flood identifying the problem became an issue. With so many drain companies to choose from I settled on Drainworks because I recognized Eddie's face from van's working in the neighborhood. I wasn't disappointed with my choice. Mike Dunn and the crew that he brought in to install a check valve were top notch. While there apparently wasn't any room to negotiate prices the quality of work was very satisfactory, and the helpful advice was appreciated. I would definitely recommend.

    Replace incoming water service

We had poor water pressure in our older home, so we decided to investigate upgrading to 3/4" service from 1/2". It made sense to take care of the upgrade first before doing other work in the basement, so I called in DrainWorks who I've used before. Armando got the call to come by to do the written estimate. He measured the distance involved from the property line to the destination inside the house, explained how the work would be done (two holes and tunneling rather than a giant trench) and advised me that I needed to obtain city permission to dig near a tree since one of the holes would need to be in the protective zone. (I spent several weeks on that front, but the city basically ignored me so I eventually decided to go ahead with the work anyway and take the risk of possible damage to the tree. There was none, the tree remains healthy, and I documented with photographs the hole to demonstrate that no major roots were damaged.) Between the time of the original estimate and the eventual work, I decided to have the service come through the basement floor in a little different area. Armando came by again to update the quote accordingly to accomodate my needs, and we scheduled the work. The crew of 2 showed up on time on the day the work was scheduled and Armando was there as well at the beginning to set up the job, spec'ing out where the service needed to come in. Andre and his partner worked very hard and fast to dig the holes. I had to leave for work for a while so my wife oversaw the rest of the job which was completed perfectly. One thing of note - Andre and his partner used some water to compact the soil they refilled in the holes then added some good topsoil they had brought and made everything level with the existing grade. On a previous job by another company, the crew left the hole as a big mound some 8" above grade, saying it would settle in time. A year later, I finally just levelled it off myself, which was annoying. Later that evening, another DrainWorks employee came by to do a final inspection of the work, scope our drains for us to make sure they were in good shape (they were, given recent replacement, though just over our property line on the city side he identified some roots starting to enter that we'll need to get addressed - good to know). All in all, the work was high quality, DrainWorks accomodated our requirements perfectly and followed up to ensure the work was done correctly.

Confirming sewer line clear to avoid sewer backup

Because my home has become a rental property, my home insurance no longer covers sewer backup damages and suggested that I have my sewer line examined to determine the shape that it is in. At the same time I had a very slow drainage from my tub in the basement. The team that came were polite, efficient and as happy as I was to learn that my sewage line was totally clear. They solved the bathtub drain, and were away in no time. I was very satisfied with their work.
