    Gas fireplace installation

Gasfix removed an unsafe, obsolete gas fireplace from my basement. They replaced the unit with a new fireplace and installed a snorkel exhaust system to meet safety code. The original rock trim had to be removed and was replaced with new, custom cut rock. The work was done efficiently, cleanly and quickly. The workers were friendly and informative. I would confidently recommend Gasfix.

    Answer from pro:

Thank you for your review and contacting Gas Fix to replace your gas fireplace. As we provide warranty services for fireplace and pool heater manufacturers, we take a lot of pride being one of those contractors that takes both safety and the gas code seriously. Our technicians, as noted, are efficient providing quick, clean and professional installations. Should you have any issues with your fireplace, please do not hesitate to contact us. We can typically schedule a call with 24 to 48 hours if not that same day. ~ Jason ~

    Fireplace repair and service

Gasfix was the fourth company we contacted to fix and service our eighteen year old fireplace. All other companies recommended that it would be best to install a new fireplace. The total experience with Gasfix was wonderful, from the initial call to setup the appointment, to the completion of the job. The technician Joe arrived on the scheduled day on time. He was very pleasant, courteous and very respectful of us and our home. He was extremely knowledgeable and was able to fix the problem and service the fireplace to look and operate like new. Overall an outstanding job well done, I would highly recommend Gasfix and their technician Joe for any gas related problem or service issue.

    Answer from pro:

    Firplace Bust

I hired Gas Fix November 16th 2016 because our Kingsman fireplace kept blowing out on windy days. Repair guy (Scott) came out and did complete overhaul costing $667.76. Fireplace looked awesome and looked like new...but..... by Nov. 20th I contacted Gas Fix again because the fireplace pilot light was still blowing out on very windy days. They were quick to come back out came out and diagnosed that the problem was likely a lack of Wind Buffer / Wind Vent Cover that I agreed to have designed and had installed for another $169.50. I used the Fireplace throughout Winter on days that were not windy...and on days that were cold & calm it was okay...but became quiet discouraged recently in February and early March 2017 when on very Windy days the fireplace pilot light kept blowing out. I did "re-light" the pilot several times...and tried to run the fireplace again and again but when I did that the Fireplace would shut of after 5-10 minuets of running. This repair job has been a total Bust. I thought they knew what they were doing when I hired them and trusted their opinion about what had to be repaired but it seems like they abide by the old hit and miss repair process. I would strongly recommend that customers seriously think about whether they want to invest that kind of money on a repair job done by this company. Now we will likely have to rip the unit out and install a new fireplace ...which is likely what I should have dome in the first place.

    Serviced fireplace

Previously I was told by another company that I would have to have our fire place replaced. Dwayne from Gasfix serviced the fireplace thoroughly and assured me that it was in good repair. This is the second time Gasfix has saved me from spending hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars in two different houses by correcting false information I had been given by two other companies. I will never have anyone but Gasfix look at my fireplace in the future.

    Answer from pro:

Thank you for contacting Gas Fix to service your Valor fireplace the end of February 2017 and back in June 2011, when we serviced the Heat-N-Glo at your old house. As we specialize in the repair and maintenance of gas fireplaces, our technicians are the experts in the field. The unit received a thorough cleaning and was testing twice for carbon monoxide (CO) - both before and after the service with identical results. There are no CO issues with your Valor fireplace. That other contractor should never have turned off your fireplace in the first place. That contractor was looking for a fireplace sale and we are thankful that his efforts failed. Should you have any issues in the future regarding a fireplace, furnace, water heater or pool heater, please do not hesitate to contact us. ~ Jason ~

    Speedy & Professional Service

They called me back first thing the next business day (after I contacted them through HomeStars). The technician (Joe) was here by 11:30 that morning to service our three gas fireplaces. Joe was very professional and pleasant and communicated all concerns very effectively. He did an excellent job and all three fireplaces look like new. He cleaned up very carefully. Excellent service.

    Answer from pro:

Thank you Glen for your review and for contacting us through HomeStars! It has been a great resource to communicate promptly with our customers. As noted, we were able to contact you as soon as we had staff in the office on Monday morning and had our technician Joe there within a couple hours to service the two Heat-N-Glo fireplaces and the Selkirk fireplace making them all look like new. They only wanted a little TLC to bring them back to life again. Should you have any issues in the future, please do not hesitate to contact us via the HomeStars app or calling us directly. Again, thank you for choosing Gas Fix! ~ Jason ~

    Service

We owned our fireplace for over 15 years. Therefore not surprising that it stopped working. We called Gasfix, they responded quickly and came to our house to see what they can do to fix our problem. As we expected the process was not easy and required a few service calls but the SERVICE and customer approach was beyond what we have expected. Dwayne Hamilton did an excellent job, he showed to us what customer service is all about. Our fire place is glowing with flames and heat. THANK YOU Glasfix Repair team!!!

    Answer from pro:

Thank you Kathy for your review and for having Gas Fix out to repair your Cambridge fireplace. As your unit has a mercury flame switch, you have two options when that fails. You can replace the entire unit with a new unit or upgrade the control system which is the less expensive option. You choose the more practical, less expensive route which was upgrading the control system and had a new valve, pilot assembly and piezo installed by Dwayne. As this Cambridge unit is a unique unit, it also required the fan relay as well. Though it took a few calls to resolve all the issues, we are pleased to know that your fireplace is glowing with both flames and heat. Should you require anything in the future, whether a fireplace, water heater, pool heater or furnace, please do not hesitate to contact us. ~ Jason ~

    Gas Fireplace Service

Had Gas Fix come and service our gas fireplace. I called them in the morning and the the serviceman (Joe R.) came in in the afternoon. The serviceman was very professional, couldn't get over all the test he done, he explain everything clearly what he was doing and had the parts in his van that the fireplace require. Very happy with the service and price, glad I called Gas Fix , would call them again and recommend them to all of our friends. If all of their servicemen are like Joe, then you can't go wrong calling Gas Fix. Thanks for your great service. Andy

    Answer from pro:

Thank you Andy for your review and for having Joe service your Majestic fireplace. Many other contractors that service fireplaces will light the pilot and clean the glass and call that a safe fireplace. Gas Fix does not operate like that. We have factory-trained professionals, like Joe, who are always learning and upgrading their skills throughout the year. Using their manometers, they can test various components to pinpoint the issue. On standard calls, they are testing the electro-magnetic unit (pilot flame), head coil (gas valve), high limits, spill switches, etc. With any fireplace that our technicians touch, they always check the safety on the gas valve, they always do a draft test on the ventilation and they always do a carbon monoxide test. Our technicians also carry over 300 of the most common fireplace parts on their vehicle which includes a variety of thermocouples, pilot assemblies, gas valves, fans, remotes and several various switches. By investing in such a large stock of inventory, we can typically take care of our customers on a same day basis as we have done for you by having the thermocouple and rocker switch on the vehicle. Again, we appreciate your generous comments about Gas Fix and our technician, Joe. Joe also services furnaces, water heaters and pool heaters so if you ever have an issue in the future, please do not hesitate to contact us. ~ Jason ~

    Excellent Service

Gas Fix is not actually in my service area but made an exception to perform a number of services for us. This is a new home to us and the fireplace wasn't working. The first repair we needed was to the fireplace, in which we needed a new blower and a good cleaning. The technician Wayne, was very professional, clean and quick. He explained and showed us how to use the fireplace. The second time we used Gas Fix was to install a heater in our garage. The technician Scott, was also very professional, clean and rather quick considering he had to run a gas line from the basement up to the garage. The install was excellent and we reap the benefits daily in our nice warm garage and basement. Thank you to the office staff for making all the arrangements.

    Answer from pro:

Thank you for your review and for contacting Gas Fix to service your Instaflame fireplace and to install your Mr. Heater garage heater. As our service area is typically between Grimsby and Mississauga, we will make exceptions to accommodate customer especially when the fireplace or heater is a main source of heat. As our technicians arrive prepared, they were able to provide complete same-day service for the fireplace in October and to install the gas line required for the garage heater in December. We are glad that you are reaping the benefits of a warm basement and garage. For professional, quick and clean service in the future, please do not hesitate to contact us.~ Jason ~

    Fireplace inspection

Scott inspected our family room fireplace, the 3rd time we have called Gasfix for service over several years. We found him aggressive, rude and very disrespectful. He tagged our fireplace suggesting that it was improperly constructed and installed which has never been sited on regular cleaning in the past 20+ years. He stated that he did not care about our life but only about himself and made negative inappropriate comments about our home. To add further insult, he charged us $100.00. I will never call Gasfix again and recommend that you do not do so either.

    Answer from pro:

Thank you Mr. D for your review. Providing us with feedback allows us to continue to improve our process and procedures. We are genuinely sorry that the unsafe condition of your fireplace was not identified on an earlier service call. Your fireplace looked like a beautiful job on the surface. It was not until I had to pull the fireplace out of the cavity that I became aware of the condition in behind. We first serviced the fireplace in 2009. Since you state that it has had regular cleaning in the past 20+ years, the problem was also not obvious to the service technician that serviced your fireplace prior to 2009, as well as on our previous two service calls since 2009. Not having identified a fire/safety hazard previously is never justification for not doing something to correct the situation once a problem has been found. More importantly, a problem was identified and action was taken to prevent an incident. It is a fact that unsafe equipment can cause loss of property and life. At Gas Fix, we care about our customers and our staff are constantly working on improving operating methods. From rigorously following the gas code, manufacturer’s codes and installation instructions to vacuuming up after our work and leaving the premises in the same or cleaner condition, we take the extra steps for our customers. We are required by the gas code, the gas company, such as Enbridge, and Ontario law to report the conditions that are unsafe or against the Ontario gas code and turn the gas burning product off. So we do that to protect our customers and through them, ourselves. We find that when we advise customers that an unsafe condition exists and we have to shut down the offending product, we get two types of responses. The first response is concern about their welfare. People say well if it is unsafe I don’t want it in my house. The second common response is anger and since I am the only one around, that anger is directed at me, not at the original gas technician that did such a bad job and put your house and family in jeopardy. Even when it is explained it is a hazard, the response is to leave it the way it is and not do anything. Unfortunately, once I identify a problem, then the liability becomes mine. I become responsible for the whole job and any future consequences. TSSA, the government organization that controls gas licenses, has been very clear that the last person will be held accountable. Your reaction was one of anger. I think your anger still shows in your review a month later. You made it quite clear that you wanted me to over-look the fire hazard that was your fireplace and just leave it be. I explained I could not do that. I must not have been clear when I said to you that I am not going to put your life or my gas license in jeopardy by leaving this fireplace operational. As the last man to touch your fireplace, I am now responsible for it and the poor installation that is the cause of concern. Any comments about your home were only related to the condition of the fireplace installation. I must apologize if, when dealing with your anger, I became defensive and came across as rude or disrespectful. It is hard to remain detached from the situation as much as I try to maintain my composure. Every customer is important to us and we regret your decision not to call Gas Fix in the future. We wish the best to you and your family. ~ Scott (Head Technician)
