After doing much research on moving companies to do our cross country move I decided on Great Canadian Van Lines because of their great overall reviews. From my first contact, Rick Valiant, who provided me with my quote, I already knew they would be the one to use. I got a quick and prompt response even with the upcoming Christmas holiday hours. He replied within the next day and won my business even though I got cheaper quotes elsewhere. After the $200 deposit was paid, dispatch called me within the next business day to setup my move pick up date. Moving day came and they were delayed due to trailer truck issues, but Wade called me to let me know that they would get to us as soon as possible. They ran only about 1.5 hours late which was no big deal. Wade got to labeling all our items and had no problems with us adding more items after the fact. He wrapped up our king sized mattress and our large bed set which was taken apart in several large pieces. During this time Wade found a $100 bill under our bed and put it aside. Is this not an honest man or what? I was very impressed with this. Had it been any other person I'm sure they would've pocketed the money. The weigh in for our move came to much heavier than quoted. I guess our few pieces of furniture were much much heavier than I anticipated. (King mattress, king bedset with large drawers attached, and large massage chair.) They emailed me a bill of lading with the final price and estimated time of arrival. At the time the truck left Toronto I was given a phone call by dispatch to let me know that they would arrive in Calgary in about a week's time. Wade called me the day before arrival to set up a time the next day (on Sunday.) Being on a Sunday was even more of a convenience for me. (Their email stated that working crews didn't work Sundays and holidays.) Extra bonus!! He and the other mover arrived 5 minutes early. They moved everything into the garage and house in about 1.5 hours. Nothing was missing!!!!! Yay! I've had missing boxes before when we did a move from Vancouver to Calgary and it stressed me right out!! I was very much relieved that everything arrived in good order. Having Wade be the mover from the arriving end and the receiving end made things much simpler and gave me my piece of mind. My biggest stress was making sure all my boxes arrived. If you're looking for a mover to do a cross country move I highly recommend Great Canadian Van Lines. Thanks Wade (and movers,) Rick, and Mark for a job well done!!Answer from pro:
Hi Lien, Thank you for your review. We will pass on your positive comments to Wade and the staff at Great Canadian. We hope you are enjoying Calgary and can be of service to you in the future. Thank you, GCVL Customer Service

This move was a disaster! The estimate changed 4 times from the original quote to the final invoice - and we never did receive a final breakdown & explanation of the invoice (which we asked for repeatedly). Packers arrived with inadequate supplies - client had to supply boxes. Numerous items arrived damaged or broken. Wrapping and packing was not well done. The truck leaked causing items to be water damaged. Communication with the company was extremely poor. Could not get an accurate delivery date. It took 50 days to finally deliver all the items! Final compensation was inadequate. We will not be using this company for our next move and cannot recommend it to anyone else.Answer from pro:
Hi Ronald, I spoke with your sales person regarding your estimate. You were given an estimate based on what you advised her you were shipping and the reason for the estimate changing was she then came out to do an in home estimate. At time of delivery you were given a copy of your bill and we also did email you another copy which does have a breakdown of all charges. The packers did use a few boxes which you had purchased but we reimbursed you for the cost of these boxes. There was a leak and anything that you noted to GCVL regarding damages you were fully compensated for and you have received the cheque and cashed it. It was unfortunate that your driver had three boxes that he had to deliver at a later date. The rest of your shipment arrived on time based on your contract and $200.00 was given to you in your settlement for the three boxes being delayed. Thank you, GCVL Customer Service

We wree looking for a reliable, honest, reasonably priced moving company who could assist with a bit of packing on the front end. I called many different companies and did alot of research. This was the only company that I found to be responsive and easy to deal with. My contact was a pleasure to talk to, always reassuring and never appeared to be annoyed with my constant questions!!!! He came to the apartment in Vancouver and did an assessment and in the end, was true to his word!!! The cost was exactly what we discussed with no hidden costs and I cannot tell you how much I appreciate the honesty!! As well, the movers were absolutely fabulous. Very professional and hard working. Thanks so much to the folks at Great Canadian Van LineReview from HomeOwner HomeOwner

moved from Ontario to British Columbia. Pickup/some packing was handled professionally and on time. Delivery was as scheduled and again was handled professionally. My stained glass transom window ended up with 2 extra cracks (already had 2) but I did not realize it until I unpacked it. I was successful in finding a qualified repair person in Parksville and looked after it.Review from HomeOwner HomeOwner

We were moving from Ottawa to Vancouver and looking for a reputable company to move us. Researching such companies lead to one conclusion, most of them are "shady" at best and one stood out. I emailed a few and got 3 responses, rest did not event respond. Great Canadian sales rep Laurie set the bar VERY high from the first email with her professional and personable tone. EVERY time I had a question ( i had a lot), she responded quickly and accurately. On move day, Wade (our cross country driver) was a true pro and so was his helper and he took great care in handling each item. delivery to our home in vancouver was no exception with Wade and another helper. The service was red carpet style form start to end. I suspect anyone leaving this company a bad review simply is an unhappy person in general and/or failed at some point to effectively work with GCVL in the process because after 18 years in customer service I can attest they are a SOLID company that will efficiently facilitate your move. Sure, they may not be perfect but pretty damn close - I high recommend them.Answer from pro:
Thank you for the great feedback, we will forward your comments to the entire team involved in your move; and we all hope that you are enjoying Vancouver. Please contact us should you require relocation services in the future. Best Regards, GCVL Staff and Management

Just moved from Bracebridge Ontario to Vancouver BC and Great Canadian Van Lines was truly great. They use full-time staff like Daniel with many years of experience, rather than part-time contractors. Daniel was attentive to detail and made sure that all my furniture was properly wrapped and carefully handled. This was the most professional long distance move that I have ever experienced and would highly recommend this company.Answer from pro:
Hi David, Thank you for the review and we will forward your comments on to Daniel your driver. We all hope that you are enjoying Vancouver and please contact us should you require relocation services in the future. Best Regards, GCVL Staff and Management

I hired GCVL for a long distance move from Vancouver to Toronto and they were fantastic from start to finish. There are so many shady moving companies out there that it was frustrating to get quotes with so many places but GCVL provided me with a detailed, accurate quote from the start and what I paid was exactly as outlined. The day of the move the movers were on time, professional and very thorough. They dealt with a potential catastrophe (freight elevator not working, all my furniture having to go either down a very very narrow flight of stairs or in passenger elevator) with confidence and put me and my building manager at ease. All of my goods arrived when expected and were treated with absolute care. No surprises and nothing missing or damaged in any way. Everyone I dealt with at this company was professional, honest and helpful. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone for a long distance move. Anyone with a van can call themselves a mover but it is worth it to pay for professionals and GCVL was absolutely professional.Answer from pro:
Hi Jayne, Thank you for your review we will pass it along to everyone involved in your relocation. Enjoy your new residence in Ontario! The GCVL team

I had nothing but great things to say about this company. Great customer service and quality movers. Although, our move was only a few KMS from our old home everything went very smoothly. We had some large appliances that are used in home based business and they moved them very professionally and with upmost care. Great experience with this company and would use them again and have already recommended them to friends.Answer from pro:
Thank you for your review Paul! Enjoy your new home! From everyone at GCVL

Communication with customers is definitely not this company's strong point. This company was very responsive and competitive when I was investigating quotes for shipping 1000 lbs from Toronto to Edmonton. As soon as they took the deposit, the communication ceased and I had to track everything down. I wasn't informed of the shipment pick up until I emailed them. It was very challenging to get them to even estimate a three day delivery time, which wasn't met. On the final day of my estimated time, I was told the shipment would be at least another week. Once I tracked down the apparent driver he was not helpful although finally did manage to perhaps commit to a scheduled time. I will know more when it arrives. I have emailed my contact a number of times, and the response rate is dismal.Answer from pro:
We would like to apologize that your move has been delayed due to the unfortunate situation of your drivers truck having mechanical problems. These situations do arise from time to time and we do our best to get shipments off one truck and on to the next one without much delay. As a compensation for being delayed we have discounted your move by just over 25% and it has been deducted off your final bill which you will receive when your shipment arrives this weekend. Enjoy your new residence in Edmonton.
