Shut off valve replacement for a Hot water heater

This is the second time we have had this company come out to perform work on our home. The first involved replacing a heating element in the hot water tank which was a reasonable cost of approx $150. The plumber for this job was very nice but 5hrs late arriving. The job was completed in less than an hr. The cost was incredibly high for cutting a copper line to remove the old shut off valve and installing a new ball valve in its place - $315!. We were not quoted a price prior to the completion of the job, we knew what the job involved and expected to be charged accordingly. Needless to say I was incredibly unimpressed with the cost for less than an hour of work. After many calls to the office a $60 credit was given and no further discount could be applied as we had already been given a discount as the "book value" for the job was listed as being over $400. Not at all impressed with the price gouging. An explanation was given as this is the cost of the truck and equipment etc. The office manager and owner were unwilling to charge appropriately for the job. The staff member I dealt with was very pleasant, as was I. I was asked if we would give them another chance- not likely! Which is unfortunate for them.

    Bathroom renovations

We used J&S Plumbing Services a couple of times recently to complete plumbing work for bathroom renovations. Our first job was one where significant concrete had to be removed and replaced for relocating the main basement drain as well as providing water supply for a shower, vanity and toilet. The more recent job was to retrofit a stand alone bath. In both cases we found J&S to be very professional; they provided a detailed work of scope, estimate and outlined any risks. Their work was done on-time and on-budget. No issues. Their crew was also very courteous (Brennan & partner). I would recommend them to anyone looking for high quality plumbing work.

    Sump Pump replasement

MOST UNREASONABLE PRICING!!! They charge you by the work not an hour, because the hourly rate will be from $800-$1000. The replacement of sump pump cost me (30 min of labor) $800 + Tax The invoice didn't have a break down what you are paying for, so did it my self: Myers 1/2 sump pump $300 ( I estimated the cost online) Labor $500 per 1/2 hour ($1000 per hour) I will not call them again. STAY AWAY!!! After all the pump can't do the job because the line is frozen, so they ask additional $1200 for temporary line. I asked if he can pump out the water from the basement, the worker told me that he don't have a pump for it.... After spending $857 my basement was full of water! Solution: go to Canadian Tire bay pump ($50-$150) & garden hose and install it your self, then take your time to find reputable plumber. I hope my review will help other clients to avoid unfair charges in desperate situation. Ilona

    Bathroom renovation

We have used J&S a couple of times in the past. This time we needed to get our bathroom fixed because we had a crack in our master ensuite shower base. The company was very quick to set us up with a consultation at our house. Mike was great to listen to our concerns and to work within our budget. The timelines were very tight which we really appreciated. They were able to complete the job in the timelines they originally gave us with the original price they quoted. It was easy to contact Mike whenever we needed to. He kept us in the loop throughout the process and we were able to understand everything that was being done. There was minimal disruption to our regular day and clean up was done on a daily basis. We love our new shower.

    Plumbing

The hot water in my kitchen had slowed to a trickle, I called J&S, and Ryan and David came out today to have a look. They had the problem diagnosed within minutes (the hot water tap on the faucet was clogged), and had it unclogged, and back to normal in no time. They were both very friendly, thorough, and helpful. They took the time to explain everything to me, and let me know that the faucet itself may be starting to wear out (just due to age), and told me exactly what to watch for. Pricing was also extremely reasonable. I will definitely be using them again for any future plumbing needs, and will not hesitate to recommend them to anyone needing work done. Thanks, J&S, and Ryan and David!

    Plumbing Service

I had a problem with my hot water pressure in my house. J&S (Donny) came in and showed me that the problem was the mixing valve. I agreed to get the mixing valve replaced and pay around $500. While disconnecting my valve, he noticed that the screens were clogged. Instead of replacing the valve, he just cleaned the screens and reduced by bill considerably. He had opened the new valve's packaging and I wasn't attending. He could have replaced the valve and told me the problem was fixed but he didn't. He was honest.

    Backwater Valve

I found the staff at J&S Plumbing to be very courteous, efficient and punctual. Mike and Ryan did a great job installing the backwater valve. They took the time to explain every step of the process to me and answered all of my questions. I would highly recommend J&S Plumbing!

    Water Softener Instal

I live in an area with hard water, lime scale and rust and had to shop around for the best price for a water softener to address this issue. J & S Services not only provided the best option but also at the best price with the best warranty. From quote to installation, I was very pleased with their services - from Cindy in the office (who is so friendly!) to their installer, Mike, I am very pleased with their services. Mike was so professional, knowledgeable, efficient and friendly. I found that he went above and beyond with the installation as well as some other issues that arose - Mike was so great! I was so impressed with the service that I signed up for their Home Assure Program for both plumbing and heating & cooling programs. I then had Scott come out to service my air conditioner and again I was very happy due to his friendly customer service and knowledge. I found that Scott also went out of his way to ensure customer satisfaction and that my coolant system continued to run efficiently. He resolved an issue that I was not even aware of! I highly recommend J&S to all!

We used J&S a couple of years ago for some major reno work in our house and we were very happy with the service that we received so we didn't hesitate to call on them again. Once more J&S proved to be a reliable company, Mike is very professional and took care of our problem quickly and at a reasonable rate. Thanks Sharon & Rick
