    Gas Leak

We called the gas company to check out a stong smell of gas in our basement. When they could not find it we decided to call in another company and found J&S Plumbing Service. Their representative found it outside. The J&S representative was very professional, courteous and punctual. We highly recommend J&S. They may have even saved our lives. We would definitely hire them again.

    Leaking Water heater

Had a puddle of water beside my water heater. Called J&S for service. I knew it was overpriced by I didn't want to call around. They sent a salesman disguised as a plumber who was immediately perplexed by the water and began telling me I needed a new water heater. He quoted me what I suspected was a high price for a new one. After doing a little research I realized my suspicions were correct, I will get a new water heater but for a more reasonable price from someone else. I would not recommend J and S for water heater problems because you are paying them 150 dollars + tax for a "service call" when in reality you are paying them to come to your house and try to sell you on an overpriced product. I also enjoyed that the salesman mentioned the water heater came with a free inspection of the furnace and air conditioning (a 200 dollar value he said, WOW!) , which no doubt would mean more things that J & S could replace at a high cost. I hope in the future J & S will realize that many customers aren't as gullible as they might think.

    Toilet Repair

Needed a fill valve replacement for toilet, so made contact with their professional/efficient customer service. A technician was sent out within 24 hours. Work was completed in only 15 minutes and in looking at the cost for the replacement parts following the repair, it could have been done for less than $50 in parts (instead of a total of $285). Disappointed in the cost clearly and disappointed in myself for not looking at other companies.

Replace an outside hose bib (tap)

The outside tap at the back of our house was leaking. We called J & S Plumbing Service and agreed to a $40 minimum service call charge. Technician Wayne arrived a couple days later. After a two-minute assessment, he told us that the hose bib (tap) had to be replaced, and that it would cost $350 plus tax! We refused and asked him to leave. He immediately dropped the price to $227, which we also refused. He wrote up the work order quoting the lower price plus $40 service charge, we paid the $40 plus tax and he left. I went to Home Depot, purchased a hose bib for under $10, and installed it myself in 16 minutes. I have little plumbing experience. This event suggests that J & S Plumbing has an hourly rate of somewhere between $1,300 and $800 per hour, plus a $40 service call charge to show up. It seems that the price you pay depends on how much you resist their wild estimates. Strongly suggest that people shop around before calling this company, and have a firm idea of cost before you end up paying them $40 for ten minutes giving you an outrageous estimate.

    Reverse osmosis

I bought a reverse osmosis from them when they had a promo and the person who installed it, I am forgetting his name at the moment was very informative and professional. I would definitely use them again.

    Replace Sewage Pump

J&S Plumbing was called to replace the Sewage Pump at my house in Aurora area. Technician showed up in 2 hours, and quoted me 1465.00 to replace the pump. I did not have time to check the prices at the time. I was desperate to get the job done to prevent damage to my house. He went to supplier and picked up the pump and was installed. The entire project took 2 hours. It took 30 minutes to install the pump. He used Myers SRM4-P Sewage 0.4 HP, the low end pump which is sold for $277 retail value. I was charged almost $1200 for 1 hour job. I called the office and complained about the charges, I was told this is standard price. And Technician was pushing me to sell his Service Contract for $350.00. I called around and I was quoted $600 by other plumbers. I was ripped off, I would strongly recommend shop around and get at least 3 quotations before doing any plumbing service. This company would rip you off if they can.

    Flooded Basement

My basement flooded with sewer water in late May. J&S came quickly and assessed the cause of the problem. We hired them to install a back water valve. Discussed other possible options (sump pump, new pipes, etc.) but they did not upsell on them and we did not add those items. They did the job on time and on budget as well as helping with the permit process and explaining about the City rebate I could apply for and providing the documents needed for that. After the rain of the century on Monday I am to report my basement is as dry as a bone, while neighbours around me got flooded. Nice work! We liked these guys so much we have just finished getting them to install ductless AC for us as well.

    Unclogging a slow flowing toilet

Toilet clogged for no reason. Look up plumber and found J&S. Knew them and happy with their work from the softener. Called and got appointment. They were understanding of my needs. Tech arrived 10 minutes early. Worked hard. Gave good advise. Will use again for sure. Unfortunately the clog was due to a builder mess that is stuck in the trap. Need to replace toilet. J&S will allow the cost of repair to be applied towards the labour of installing a new toilet.

    toilet replacement (2)

this company replaced two toilets in our house awhile back. Service people who came were VERY pushy about buying into their Service Plan. We repeatedly declined the additional agreement. We would not have continued with the service call and toilet replacement if we were not SO DESPERATE for our toilets to be working. With the second toilet, they claimed that they needed to 'build up' where the flange was to let their new toilet sit correctly. The cost of this sudden 'add-on' was, not surprisingly, EXACTLY the same price as the service agreement we declined. A short time later, the toilet that they did additional work to began to leak at the base. We called the company to have them come out (at no cost to us) to look and see what was going on with that toilet, assuming that they stand behind their work. They don't. They refused to come out at no-charge to look at what was wrong. We have just finished up with a plumber from a different company who confirmed our suspicions about the work done from this company--instead of putting in a proper sized ring seal, they simply 'doubled up' on the wax ring to make the toilet appear level when they left the job. The wax ring that J and S put in wasn't put in properly, and was not the right product for the job. In short, we just paid another 400 bucks to another plumbing company to fix the problems that J and S created. Our tile and grout have suffered because of this company's incompetence. Please consider carefully if you hire these people. We won't again.

    Service

We had an issue with an ultra-modern toilet and seat. J&S fixed it promptly. The service professionals were courteous and respectful of our house. It took them approximately one hour to complete the job.
