    Moving

They badly underestimated the size of the move; they caused a lot of damage for which they refused responsibility; they overcharged, including a charge for PST which is illegal (they promised a refund but never gave it)

    Move

What a terrible experience! Driver mislead us with information pertaining to moving insurance i.e. we were led to believe that scratches and furniture chipping would be covered by their generic 'cargo' move insurance. Hence, we didn't buy Baker Intl. insurance. After sending email containing pics of damages, they didn't even respond - I had to initiate the call, again (called in previously and was instructed to send pictures)! Hard lesson learned here ... if something doesn't sound right to you, challenge it.

    Moving

My move was a nightmare at both ends. The movers themselves were lazy, took an extended lunch which I was charged for but were on time in the morning! There was not enough protection on the floors so major clean up was required. Furniture and walls were damaged extensively, the bill was settled early and being a trusting person I thought they knew based on what items were remaining they knew how long it would take, NOT! So they left early and I paid an extra hour. After complaining to the owner nothing was resolved, very uncooperative, and although proof provided at to when they left, I was told I was being untruthful. They may have been less expensive than others but I would not recommend them to an enemy. Please stay away from this company if you value your possessions and your wallet.

    Moving

I have read a few of the other reviews about this company. I'm not too sure what these people are thinking. Moving is not an easy task and can become a nightmare. However, looking from the movers point of view moving is a back breaking job. That's why we hire them. North York Moving did an excellent job. Some comments are written here about people who have packed their clothes in garbage bags, items that didnt end up rooms that were labeled on boxes, and furniture being broken. Why would you pack your clothes in garbage bags? 1.It makes them very difficult to pack in the moving truck, 2. It's harder to carry into the house. What were you thinking? My move was from North York to Aurora. The new place has 6 different levels meaning the entire house was stairs. I've used 3 different movers in the past 5 years. I have to say, North York Moving and Storage did an excellent job and not near comparable to the other companies that I used in the past. I was organized, had everything ready to go and directed the movers where to put stuff when we arrived at my new home. All my furniture was dis-assembled by the movers, wrapped professionally in moving blankes, then re-assembled. It was perfect. Nothing was broken, everything was put back together. They worked so hard that day and I didnt hear them complain once. As a courtsey to the workers I provided them with a hot meal, drinks, snacks. It was the least I could do. They are not animals, they are humans hired to help. I was happy that they were there on time, ready to work, professional, careful, polite. I am a very happy a satified customer. I will refer this company to anyone who needs a mover.

    MOVING

I had an estimate from north york moving, an old gentlemen came to my house and gave me an estimate in person he sounded like he knows what he's doing, so I booked with him. on the day of the move we had three young guys uniformed in red we got scared in the beginning, but then we were surprised they were so fast and professional and very friendly they had all right equipment they covered all our floors and all our furniture in blankets. we had ZERO damages !! I hope we will not move again but i'll highly recommend this company again.

    House furniture move

STAY AWAY FROM THIS MOVING COMPANY! I was referred to this company from a colleague. the estimate was a little high, however, felt comfortable with the referral and the estimator. I was told the move would be an 11hr job, that they would be able to get everything in with a 28ft. cube van, and would have 3 workers for $99/hr. I was not confident that the size of truck was sufficient, so a week prior to the move, I rented a large cargo van and made 2 trips with the cargo van full of boxes. With that, I felt I brought enough myself to ensure more room. Come the Saturday of the big move, I was actually pleased with how they worked during the load and was happy with how much stuff they got in the van. A couple of minor hiccups, however, nothing major... Unfortunately, even with the 2 previous loads I made earlier that week, there was still enough to fill a 20ft cube van of which I was forced to rent the following Sunday morning and finish the move myself. The workers seemed ok and when we got to the unload location, I threw them $20 to get a bite to eat for lunch. They decided to order pizza and wings and because of a mix-up from the food service and late gauranteed delivery, received their food for free. (I didn't see my $20 back, nor even a thank-you, however, was focused on the move and didn't realize this until afterwards -my mistake). During the unload is when something horribly went wrong.... and am unsure what exactly. When the load was 3/4 finished, they stopped working and would not unload another item until i settled the contract (of which I find out is an additional $300 (est.) of which were were still well under time for the estimate and did not agree with. I needed to haggle with the owner of the company named Joseph who was a complete ass, acting incredibly rude. I told him while we argued about the difference in estimate and price, his workers were sitting idle for 45 minutes. After this amount of time of bickering and his finally understanidng that I was not going to pay the new amount, he agreed to bill for the original estimate. My maticulous wife had neatly packed and labeled every item and box over two months of packing and was very clear where things had to be placed. As I was the only person at the home trying to direct 3 workers going in and out of the truck, it was difficult to keep checking to see where things were actually going. My large dining room table was destroyed in the move as they took it apart during the load after I repeatedly asked them not to. When we arrived and they tried to put it back together, it became quickly apparent that it was destroyed beyond repair and 2 legs were completely torn right off. When speaking to the owner of the company, he told me that the dining room table that was broken must have broke because it was cheap(of which is far from) without even being present to look at it. When I inquired about my understanding that the company was insured, he will not be claiming anything that his workers broke and that even if he did, the fine print on the contract states they would pay $0.06 / every 10lbs. (therefore something that weighed 100lbs would be insured for $60).... Good thing no small antiques or priceless airlooms were broken that weighed a pound or two... Once the movers left (and tipped!), I had a chance to inspect upstairs and quickly found bags of clothes that were neatly packed and clearly labelled, were all torn in half and clothes strewn and thrown into my master bedroom closet.... Half of the bags that were all clearly labelled to which room they belonged to, did not even belong in that closet let alone that room (and some not even on the right floor of the house). The walk-in closet's shelving, storage areas and hanger pole was completely torn from the drywall and was strewn all over our coats (that belonged downstairs) and my 10mnth old clothes that were strewn everywhere (of which belonged in a completely different room). A large black-iron-framed mirror was completely shattered when I removed the thick blanket we packed it in; my coffee table was chipped and marked in several places; the new glide rocking chair for my wife's baby room now has a severely large gauge right across one side. We are still unpacking, and not looking forward to what other surprises are awaiting us. My wife was absolutely shocked and traumatized when she saw how all of our belongings were treated. We're slowly getting back to trying to put this in the past and to begin our new home, however, not before I bring this infront of a small claims court.

    Moving

We contacted North York Moving and Storage for a moving quote. Their quote appeared reasonable ( 4 men, 8 hours) for the move and we contracted with them. Come moving day they 1) were an hour late, 2) took -and charged for 14 hours,- 3) Sent a crew who could not read English so our carefully labelled items ended up in the wrong floors and wrong rooms (This took us weeks to relocate)4) Caused fairly signifiant damage to several items and 5) swept out the truck into our driveway and drove away. When we contacted the company to complain and arrange repair of our damaged goods they continually said they would have someone get back to us. We heard nothing. When we finally contacted the owner he said he would personally call us back later in the day as he was on a move. Months later, no call, no repair, no satisfaction - hence this review. If you use this company - YOU HAVE BEEN WARNEDi

    Moving and Storage

We have mixed feelings about the service we received from North York Moving and Storage. The movers who arrived on the day of our move were great they were professional and courteous, and they worked hard. We must say, though, we had a few concerns with the management. A representative attended at our former home a month before the move to do a pre-move assessment. At that time, he assessed how many possessions needed to be moved and the size of the truck that would be required. Yet, the day of the move, the truck was too small to do the move in one trip (even though we had since given away a lot of furniture and other possessions after the representative's visit, so if anything, there was less to move). As a result, the move took more time than anticipated and was more expensive. Also, the floors in our new home had just been redone, and the representative told us that the movers would be extra careful and would use runners. On the day of the move, the movers had no runners (although they did tread carefully on the new floors). Overall, the movers were great, but management leaves a bit to be desired. Next time I would probably try another company.
