    In city move

I've used North York Moving twice now for a within Toronto move (2 bedroom apartment to 2 bedroom apartment) and both times I have been very happy with the service I've received. My most recent move was on March 20, 2012. Because of a problem with the move before mine, the movers did show up late but once they got there they were incredibly fast, efficient and friendly. They loaded up stuff in just under an hour and even gave me a ride to the place I was moving to. At the new place they unloaded and arranged the furniture even more quickly. There was no damage to any of my items in both moves I've had with them, (even my cheap / fragile ikea furniture). They wrapped the items they thought would be at risk in blankets and were careful with all my items. I plan on using North York Moving for my next move. I've had a few bad moving experiences before coming across them, and think I've finally found reliable movers.

    Moving

I called North York Moving in a panic, less then 10 hours before our move because our other movers went completely non-responsive. We spoke to their customer rep. who told us about how their services work and the fees associated. They work hourly, but were quick. In addition to moving out house in 3 hours, Their truck was very clean and they had tonnes of moving blankets to ensure nothing got scratched. They assembled the beds when they arrived and were very mindful of the floors and where they were wearing their shoes. I really am happy to have come across them and would recommend them to anyone looking for a reliable and quick mover.

    Unprofessional and false advertising

I had a move arranged and promised at $195 inclusive for all charges for 2 movers and a truck. For additional hour was $55. They were late by 2 hours. The job took them 3 1/2 hours. They over charged me compared to the promised price as per written email. I dont mind paying more, however they promised a promotion which they turned back on. They would not unload my things until I paid them more. Very unprofessional company. Should not promise if they can not deliver their promise. When I called the manager to complain, he said "I can't deal with it". His excuse was because it was after hours, during my move. They refuse to admit their faults and what they promised, but I have an email to prove the quote they have offered.

    moving nightmare

My husband and i decided it was time to move, so we found a new apartment then looked for a moving company North York Moving seemed to be reasonable as we were only moving a short distance, so we set a deal with them of 400 CAD all inclusive. We felt this a fair price as it was for 6hrs work and we knew it was not going to take 6hrs anyway, but decided as it was all inclusive, to proceed. Day of the move, i got a call at 7.40am saying they had a job and didn't finish till 3am but were going to be with me soon as they were getting the van ready, so i said ok because they weren't due to be with us till 8am I didn't worry and thought it was just a courtesy call. We were all packed and ready to go at the arranged time of 8am, so we waited and waited, eventually I called to see where they were and go told he was going to chase them up and get back to me, which never happened. Eventually they turned up over 3hrs late. The lead hand asked my husband for his credit card, before they could start the job. He was obnoxious swearing at my husband when he questioned him as to why they needed his credit card details, as it was a cash deal, he refused to do the job otherwise, so my husband gave him the details so the job would get done. The lead hand then told my husband blankets or other equipment used is extra, we were a little confused as this was a all inclusive deal. The truck was loaded quickly with minimum fuss. Which I was happy with and unloaded quickly. I thought that was the end of the hastle, but was very wrong. While they were unloading. I was going back and forth to the car to get items we had put in there. Which is when I seen them drop boxes on the floor, when my husband asked why the boxes were wet a lame excuse was given. When they had almost finished unloading the lead hand came up to be paid. We were shown a bill that was 178 CAD over the agreed amount. When it was questioned the lead hand got aggressive and said he didn't care as he has our visa details and he would take the money anyway. We very upset and confused as his attitude was very bad, his constant cursing even worse. Eventually he left and we decided to start unpacking, yes there was the odd broken glass, what did I expect as they had dropped boxes on the floor. The broken glasses I was ok with, coz they were just everyday glases, what upset me was when I went to open my bedroom draws and one wouldn't open, it had obviously been dropped, scratches and dents on all the furniture. DO NOT USE this company unless you want to be ripped off, sworn at and shouted at. I only wish I had read the reviews on this company beforehand. As I would NEVER of given them my custom.

    moving

Don't ever use this company. I used the company on January 10 and 11th, 2013 to move from Oshawa to Windsor. As i am told that the moving has to be done by 5pm in my new condo building, so we had to load the truck on 10th and move to windsor. The first day, the movers were late for 3 hours, and they charged me 4 hours for 2-3 hours of work. and the second day, they were late for 4 hours. and because of their late arrival, my building manager didn't allow us to move in. and both my boyfriend and myself told both the movers and the manager Raed over and over before that they have to be on time, otherwise, we are not allowed to move in. No one cares in their company. After negotiating with the building manager for a long time, and they allowed us to move in that day and my boyfriend worked as a third mover for the whole time. and when they calcuated the price, it was more 1000 CAD than we should pay. and the manager Raed and the mover head Joe told my boyfriend and me that they will give us a discount and we will discuss about it on January 14, 2013. and they didn't contact us at all and we listed the cost it should be based on the estimation we discussed before moving and emailed to Raed and never never got back from them. and I just realized that they charged me almost 3000 CAD on January 11th, which they told me they will not do that. they will talk to us about the charge on the 14th. the almost 3000 moving charge was only for11th, as i already paid almost 1000 CAD on 10th for the first day of moving. and their estimation was 1500-1700CAD before moving, and now they took me 4000 CAD for that. Raed asked me to sign a credit card payment authorization form before moving to book the truck. that's how they have my information. and it is totally a fraud, so don't use this company.

Move from point A Toronto to point B Toronto

DO NOT USE! I cannot stress this enough. The time alotted to move was completely underestimated and because they only allowed 4 hours to move before their next job started once 4 hours was up they left! They drove their full truck back to their yard and parked it. They said maybe the next day they could finish the move but that doesn't work at all (who would it work for?). After having family members call them a few times they finally agreed regardless of the time of night they would drop off the belongings after their other move (don't even want to get into the nightmare rebooking the elevator is going to be). Not trusting them at all the police have already been called and they have the complaint registered. When the police followed up to see if the furniture had been delivered they were informed as to the status (no it wasn't) and also given the heads up that they may be called again once the movers do show up in case they jack up the price to release. OH and the movers REFUSED to hand over a signed copy of the agreement. They just jumped in the truck and drove off. OH and the owner kept making excuses and sayng "see it from my point of view".... last I checked he wasn't the customer! Go elsewhere or tell your friends you will buy them pizza and beer to help... anything would be better than this company

    Long-distance move

We just went through an extremely painful and stressful move, orchestrated by North York Moving. We moved from Ottawa to Edmonton in September/October. We solicited quotes from a few different companies and in the end decided to go with North York. Once the deal was done, things started to go sour. I think point form will work best to describe our experience: 1 - North York Moving (NYM) told us that the movers would arrive to start loading our belongings between 8:00am and 11:00am. They arrived at 12:30pm. 2 - NYM assured us that it would only take about 2 hours to finish loading the truck. It took over 7 hours. 3 - NYM told us that we would pay when our belongings were delivered. The moving crew insisted we pay a $1500 deposit before they would leave with our belongings. 4 - NYM told us that although they couldn't give us an exact delivery date until our belongings were loaded onto the carrier's truck, we should expect delivery within 7-10 business days of pickup. We took delivery 23 business days after pickup. 5 - Our final bill came in at more than double the quote. 6 - Once we started to notice problems (extra charges on the final bill, extreme delays in delivery), NYM ceased all communications with us. They were unwilling to even discuss any of the problems we had, let alone work together to resolve them. 7 - On the final bill, there were two charges that were not included in our quote, and a third charge was misquoted. Again, NYM was unresponsive to our inquiries into the discrepancies. The one and only positive thing I have to say about NYM is that when our belongings finally arrived, everything was there and nothing was broken or damaged. A long distance move in itself is a very stressful experience. Ours was made all the more stressful by using a company that gave us an inaccurate quote, took an extra 3 weeks to deliver, and refused to communicate with us once our things were picked up and we were essentially locked into paying them. The only reason I give NYM 1 star in this review is because they didn't lose or damage anything. I would never recommend anyone to use North York Moving, unless dealing with any of the above sounds appealing to you!

    Moving Nightmare

Despite walking through our house, North York Moving intentionally underestimated the size of truck needed to move our contents (many of which we had given away after the quote - so if anything we had significantly less to move). We agreed to their quote, which they guaranteed in writing for us weeks before the move. The day of the move, there were many unpleasant surprises, the worst of which was that our stuff came nowhere near fitting in the truck. We were already concerned about this happening during the estimation, and I had called Olivia, the GM who had done the walk-through of our home, weeks before the move to be guaranteed that everything would fit. I was told that 'they are professionals' and 'if everything doesn't fit in the truck, then they would get us another truck with no additional cost'. Well, surprise, surprise, everything didn't fit - didn't even come close. The owner, Joe, told us we had no choice but to pay almost double what we expected to get another truck that day. Olivia, who had guaranteed our quote in writing and had assured us everything would fit, dodged my calls the day of the move. With only hours before our house was going to close, we had no option, but to pay for an additional truck. We tried for an hour to work out the situation with the owner, Joe, even showing our written proof that our quote was firm, but they didn't seem to care that we were backed into a corner. They clearly knew we would need a 2nd truck before they even arrived that day. We were flabbergasted and disgusted that the company had no issue adding an outrageous amount of stress to an already stressful day. I would highly discourage anyone using this moving company. We were subject the perfect moving con. I hope this helps others stay out of their trap.

    Moving to a new location

We called this company knowing the people who own it hoping that we could get at least one of the owners to do the move. But this was not to be. The guys who came wasted our time. They wasted our money and destroyed our furniture because the driver did not know how to drive stick. I would never recommend them unless you could get the owners.
