    Furnace servicing

I have called Richard twice in the past 12 months regarding two separate furnace issues for my 10 year old furnace (existing in a purchased home - not one that he installed). Both times he has helped me over the phone to resolve the problem. The first time (i am embarassed to say was a dirty furnace filter which was causing my furnace to shut down - he suggested i change the filter to see if that fixed the problem and it worked! The second time I scheduled an appointment with Richard to service my furnace as it was making a bad rattling sound. He called me to say that based on the model of the furnace and description of the noise, that I might be able to fix it myself by emptying a particular tube under the motor which is notorious for filling up with moisture. He said I could fix it myself and even talked me through it over the phone. His advice worked like a charm and saved me hundreds of dollars. He was not concerned about collecting money from me. He said he was happy to help as he believes service is the most important thing when he works with people. And it really shows. This company has a 10 rating for good reason. I will only ever call Richard for any furnace issues that I have in the future and i will make sure anyone I care about also call him too. Richard called me back so quickly and was so professional and is such an expert in his field, I am in awe that I was so lucky to find him on Homestars. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Furnace / Taking Care of their Customers promptly and with a smile !

I was on vacation when my Lenox phone app sent me an alert that the furnace was off. I called Rick at Coretemp who went over to my home and fixed the problem. I am so grateful to CoreTemp because firstly Rick had me install a furnace that has a phone app which I can use when away from home to monitor and control my furnace / AC. Secondly, Rick also is connected and easy to contact via Text and email. Rick responds right away and helps solve the problem. This is the second time this fall that I have had a problem that Rick was there to fix. Both problem were created by Consumers Gas installing new meter and without notification of their arrival, came and turned off the gas. I highly recommend Rick and his company. They have installed and monitor my tankless water heater, furnace and AC. All of his employees are also very good when they come to do the jobs, polite, knowledgeable and tidy. Thanks CoreTemp

New Furnace, Coil, A/C and thermostat

It is comforting to be able to say"we have someone for that". After recommending Richard to a neighbour with a broken A/C on labour day, ours finally kicked the biscuit. We have had Richard come out previously to fix the A/C who always brought it back to life. So there was no doubt based on past experience to use him again, Richard came out promptly, jump started the A/C to get us through the heat wave and left us with a recommended new system. I decided to replace it all as out furnace was the same age. The day of installation was one week after ordering. Richard, as always was prompt, professional, and installed our new system in about 5 hours. He took the time to show me the old system so I could visually see how bad a state it was and that I had made the right choice, he then spent another hour walking me through the new system, the new touch screen thermostat, how to activate our rebates ad outlined everything in a simplistic and easy to follow manner. We already have our Lennox rebate. The installation areas were clean and neat, no mess left behind. I had some follow up questions which were answered immediately. Our overall experience with Core Temp was fantastic and I hope this review will help persuade any doubters to choose Core Temp as their HVAC provider.

    Air Conditioner

It has taken me far too long to write this review, but it is well deserved. At the beginning of the summer we called Richard (and several other companies) to replace our broken air conditioner. Everyone wanted to immediately replace it except for Richard. He and his protege instead spent 45 minutes disassembling and ultimately fixing our aging air conditioner. He did this knowing we were willing to purchase a new unit at a much higher cost (and likely bigger margin). Honest and fair tradespeople should be the norm, but sadly are often hard to come by. Richard is one of the good guys - a gentleman and fair businessman. As far as I can tell, his work is also top-notch. I will work with him again.

Furnace / AC / Instantaneous Hot Water

I am a consultant in the green building industry and I wanted to retrofit my house with best in class equipment. Richard not only understood all the equipment I was interested in, he could speak to me very intelligently about the pros and cons of the options. Other furnace sales guys I spoke with didn't really understand the technical workings of the equipment and also didn't want to accommodate my goal of minimizing the obstructions that the supply and return pipes can cause. Richard not only listened but exceeded my expectations in his professionalism and willingness to meet my needs. I would happily recommend Richard to anyone who cares about having their HVAC equipment done right. The impression I got from other contractors was that they don't care and just want to finish the job as fast as humanly possible. Thank Richard for doing such a great job. My furnace is so quite and makes the house so comfortable I never think about it any more. Even if you are not interested in efficiency I would highly recommend the fully modulating variable speed furnace. The comfort and quite makes it worth every penny.

    Furnace Maintenance

Richard and his team arrived promptly, took time to answer my questions and adjusted the furnace to improve its efficiency and reduce my gas bills. I was impressed by their attention to detail and pleasant demeanour. I will highly recommend CoreTemp to my friends!

    Thermostat power connectivity

I called CoreTemp Saturday evening regarding a power connectivity issue on my thermostat that just started happening today. Richard took time to guide me with troubleshooting the issue over the phone and we were able to identify that the issue was the thermostat and not the wiring. Thanks so much!

    Heating & Air Conditioning

I rarely write reviews, however, the service and workmanship I received from Richard and the team from CoreTemp was simply outstanding. I am very particular when it comes to quality and customer service as my standards are very high. Before logging onto HomeStars, I called three recommended Heating & Air Conditioning contractors who visited my house. I am in the midst of a large renovation in which I am turning my unfinished basement into a legal basement apartment. I determined that it would be a good time to replace my fourteen year old furnace and air conditioner and replace it with something more efficient. I also have bad asthma and needed advice with regards to what type of air cleaner I should install. Each of the three contractors had their own opinion, however, their solution just did not seem right to me since they could not answer half of the questions as to why they recommended it. The problem today is that even the well established Heating & Air Conditioning contractors send out "sales people" who unfortunately do not have the field experience required to recommend the "right" solution. I thought I would give HomeStars a try and found that CoreTemp had some of the best reviews. I called the number on the website and Richard answered the phone directly. He was extremely helpful and schedule a home visit the very next day. He was the only person to ask me about what was important to me and my family along with why I wanted to replace the entire system? I also learned that he is a licensed "Jouneyman pipefitter" which is basically the highest level you can get. A Journeyman pipefitter deals with industrial/commercial/marine piping and heating/cooling systems. Based on that kind of experience, my home install would be a piece of cake. At the end of our conversation, Richard gave me a full quotation "on the spot" along with his recommended solution which included a Lennox HEPA Filter and pleated MERV 11 filter to address my asthma concern. Richard's pricing was very fair and his workmanship was the best I have ever seen. He installed a tankless water heater (to save space) which I absolutely love since we are finishing the basement. He also installed a "Lennox iComfort" thermostat that works perfectly with the system and allows me to adjust the temperature in the home via my smartphone while I am away. He also followed up with me on numerous occasions to ensure I was enjoying the system along with fully understanding it. These guys are the real deal and would recommend them to anyone looking for a new HVAC system. Thank you for everything. A+++

    Air Conditioner Service

I ended up calling CoreTemp Heating and Air after being less than satisfied with two other highly rated HomeStar contractors. On the Labour Day weekend, our 15 year old air conditioner started icing over at the furnace coil and at the outside unit and would not cool our house. I shut the system down and called our regular heating and air conditioning contractor (highly rated) who had replaced our furnace unit approximately 8 years prior. To their credit, a technician was dispatched within a few hours. However, the technician barely looked at the outside unit before pronouncing the system unfit. He advised that as it was a 15 years old unit, it would not be worth repairing since the total cost for a diagnosis and likely repair would be over $1,000. I asked him if he could explain exactly what was wrong. He stated that the Freon was low, so there must be a leak in the system somewhere. However, he avoided answering my specific questions about how low the Freon levels were and where the system was leaking from, etc... Instead he proceeded to tell me that it would be silly for me to consider spending money on a 15 year old unit. He then suggested that he could have a sales advisor come over within a half hour. I agreed to meet with the advisor. While the sales advisor was very polite, he essentially recommended only one particular replacement unit which seemed to be quite expensive. At that point, I advised that would like to shop around. The next day, I contacted a second highly rated company which proceeded to send a sales rep over that evening. He also did a very quick look at our current system and said 15 years was a fair length of time for an air conditioner to last. He proceeded to recommend 5 different units covering a wide price range. He suggested that we make a decision in the next few days as he could not guarantee the prices he had quoted beyond a couple of days. I also advised him that we would still like to shop around. I ended up calling CoreTemp the very next morning and spoke directly with the owner - Richard. Richard spent approximately 20 minutes with me on the telephone. I could tell within the first few minutes that he was passionate about his profession and that he was listening to what I was saying. He explained that he had many, many years of experience with the Lennox brand of air conditioners and knew pretty much where the leak could be (the service valves) and he was quite confident that it would was a quick fix and if not, he would explain all of my options. I then asked him when could he come over and to my surprise he said he could come by later that day. True enough, Richard found the leak that he suspected and explained to me in detail why these units developed these types of leaks. He tightened the valves and added the missing Freon. Richard then tested the system again - no more leaks! He suggested that since the unit was in overall good condition, I could possibly get several more years of cooling from it. He also explained that he is not interested in pushing new unit sales when they are not needed, even though there is more money to be made in the installation of a new system. Richard is definitely the person I will call again for all of our air conditioning and heating needs.

    AC inspection & repair

My AC recently stopped cooling my residence. To put this story into context, I had a previous quote from another Homestars provider who insisted my AC had unfixable leaks and that it was the best to rip/replace both furnace and AC and put me on a 7-year lease plan. Reading the details, I was in for $3000+ in implicit finance charges. Moral of the story: Don't buy into the lease pitch!. Then, I called Rich at CoreTemp. He was easy to talk to, quick to accommodate and was at my house within 24 hrs with one of his technicians. They went straight to work running a pressurization test to check for leaks. Turns out my unit required some valve and fitting adjustments and coolant recharge; there were no substantial leaks!. The best part is total repairs were ~$500 making me $2300 richer given I was expecting full replacement. Rich is relationship business person in land of tight profit margins and disposable mentalities. He only fixed what was required with full explanation and built credibility in the process. He knows how to make a living but plant seeds for the future, a rare distinction in sales. This is why I rate them 10/10 and would not hesitate to call in future.
