Knob and Tube Replacement and Patching

Bill was quick to respond to my request for a quote and to schedule an in-person consultation at our home. Once we decided to move forward with his services, we were able to schedule the job very quickly. Bill's team was very professional and completed the job within a very quick time frame (6 days). There was limited disruptiveness, and they always cleaned up before the end of the day. They did a great job patching up. We are very satisfied with their professionalism and great work, and would highly recommend them to anyone considering knob and tube replacement.

Knob and Tube Replacement - Roselawn Avenue

We received four quotes and decided to go with Bill. He gave us such a detailed quote with a break-down of the cost. We were impressed by his thorough assessment of the electrical services to be done. Tim and his crew completed the work in 5 days with minimal incision to the wall and ceiling. The furniture and floor were protected and the clean-up was done at the end of each day. The patching of the holes was nicely done and ready for painting. The team was extremely professional and friendly. The rough-in and final inspections were passed successfully. We were very pleased with this company. Highly recommended. Thanks Bill, Tim and the crew for your excellent work. M from Toronto

Knob and tube wiring replacement and patching

KNT provided great service and I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone. During the quote walkthrough with the other contractors, they were the most prepared and detail oriented. Even including patch work (which nobody else would do), they were the best price by far. It is clear they specialise in this work and they take pride in it. The work itself was done well and ahead of schedule. Everyone I interacted with was courteous and responsive, and they took care to come back and take care of a few final outstanding items that we ourselves had yet to notice. Keep it up guys!

    Mixed experience

Unfortunately, I had a mixed experience with KNT. On the plus side, the knob and tube was removed and replaced correctly, I assume. The job was done within the estimated time frame (six days). The crew arrived promptly and worked steadily. However, there was a lack of careful attention to some details. I caught and had corrected the crooked installation of a couple of switch plates, the inconsistent on-off direction of the light switches and the misplacement of a wall fixture (which still ended up slightly off-centre). Most problematic, though, was damage to the brickwork around the porch light, caused by a large hole cut into the brick to re-accomodate the fixture and the worker's attempt to patch and mortar afterwards. I then spent considerable time dealing with this unplanned masonry job. I kept KNT informed of the situation, my efforts to get it corrected (three consultations, two quotes) and my expectation that the cost would be deducted from the final amount owing. The repair took seven hours to complete. I did not feel that the inconvenience caused me was understood or appreciated, although an apology was eventually offered.

    Answer from pro:

We always respond immediately to reviews so that readers understand the situation. You wrote feedback to Homestars on Nov 5, 2016 and acknowledged the following: job was completed on time, all deficiencies were rectified with no charge to you, damaged brick work has been repaired by your mason and KNT has credited the full amount. We are sorry for your inconvenience and we apologize for the unintentional and unfortunate incidence. I respect your right to state your view and I welcome it as a learning experience for KNTelectric. I am happy that you acknowledge we completed the removal of the knob and tube on time and the electricians arrived on time and worked steadily. We try to keep an eye out for details such as crooked cover plates. We always address concerns immediately. For example On Oct. 4 - you informed us the power was off on the ground floor - I immediately replied & informed you to reset the AFCI protection, plus forwarding you additional information about Arc Fault Protection On Oct. 25-I returned to install your two light fixtures that arrived after we finished the electrical work (at no charge. There was no mention of this crooked fixture at that time or in any of our 40 email communications. As we always request that clients make a punch list of items for us to take care of before requesting the 10% hold back of final payment I don't think it’s fair that you can report that a wall fixture is slightly off centre without asking or pointing it out to KNT electric- as we would have corrected this right away. We are always and still willing to come back and "make it right". "LOL Holmes on Homes" When installing the front door light, we needed to chip out the brick which we accidently broke along with the adjacent bricks.I am sorry about the brick work I know my guys should not have tried to chip the brick in order to flush mount the pancake so that the fixture would be flush to the brick. We will in the future discuss with clients an alternative when the existing brick was compromised. Our patching should have been more professional and I accept your criticism that a mason should have been hired to do a proper repair. You informed me that you had obtained 2 quotes. I accepted to pay the $500 for the repair as quoted without seeing the quoted scope of work. I spoke with another Mason who offered to do the repair the same week (for $300) but you replied and I quote "Please be reminded that this situation was not of my doing, I have done all the legwork to get it corrected, and that a responsible business owner, as you consider yourself, would be diligent in resolving it acceptably and without reservation." During this period which lasted for just over a month, I only received payment for material delivered. The Contract require payment up to 90% upon completion of job-with holdback of 10% (Payment in arrears is over $5,000). When we met & I agreed to pay for the damage I requested $4000 payment and you said you would take care of it when the brick work was complete. When I was notified the brick work had been repaired, I immediately revised my Invoice, credited the $500+HST and sent it to you on October 19, 2016 & was paid Nov 11,- seven days after your review. I am still waiting for a copy of the masons invoice.

Knob and Tube replacement, wiring upgrade

Bill and Tim at KNT were not only amazingly thorough from start to finish, but also unfailingly courteous. From booking the site visit, to providing a quote and scheduling the work; through to spotting unexpected problems, dovetailing with our painter, and finishing up, everything went like clockwork. Our house is now ready for us to move into and it is so important that we feel safe with our young family. We are enormously grateful to Bill and Tim and their team.

    Answer from pro:

Thank-you I will let the guys know especially Kevin who ran the job and spoke to your house sitter. Its rare that we do a job and never meet the client. I am glad we were able to help with your renovation. I am impressed that you managed without being here in Toronto. Tim

Didn't even hire them yet and am satisfied !

I think that good service should be underlined with a thick marker. I own old houses and I like to prevent problems before they happen. Called KNT, spoke with Bill immediately who went through extensive but concise, interesting and accurate explanations to handle my questions. I didn't feel rushed either talking to him over the phone even if he pertinently knew some of my options didn't require his services right away as I needed to go through other steps first. Not pushing for me to hire his company either, saying : "you have to do this and that and then hire an electrician, us or anyone else" and I thought his attitude was one of a real gentleman. For sure, I will hire them once needed ! Keep up the good work !

    Answer from pro:

Wow Thank-you - Sorry I can not thank you personally. I try to treat everybody the same.

Knob & Tube Replacement, and Electrical for New Build

Bill and the entire team at KNT Electrical did an amazing job replacing our knob & tube wiring in our existing home and complete wiring to our new build for our home extension. In building a 1200 sq foot extension we ran into a lot of challenging situations, and it was a marvel how well Bill and the team were able to support us through the process. They are highly skilled electricians and problem-solvers, very flexible and communicative on their work progress and why the need to do certain activities, and extremely clean, professional, courteous and easily accessible throughout the whole process. There were multiple times when I called Bill at the last moment asking if his guys could help me out and they were always there with a smile and a helping hand. We passed our ESA certification right away and it was all thanks to the quality work of Bill and his team. Their pricing is very competitive and work product is of exceptional quality. Good luck finding better value for your money anywhere other than KNT Electric. I would HIGHLY recommend Bill and KNT Electric for all your electrical needs.

Knob & tube replacement, electrical upgrade

Bill, Tim, and the team at KNT Electrical did an amazing job upgrading our 1941 home to 2016 standards. Not only did they replace the knob and tube wiring throughout the house, they also upgraded grounding wires, installed a bathroom fan, pot lights, additional receptacles, and dimmer switches. Their ability to understand what a customer requires for day-to-day needs around electricity supply within the home was amazing. Finally, the team patched up all the holes and made the house 'paint ready' before they left the job. They even took the time to match the textured walls and ceilings so that it is almost impossible to distinguish where the work took place. I would recommend KNT Electrical to anyone. They are honest, professional, and work with integrity. If I require anything in future, I will be sure to use their services again.

I will pass your kind words comments onto the guys. We are always happy to help new home owners. We are glad to have been of service. Plus the guys thank you for the treats. Bill
