After we bought our century-old home in Toronto, one of our first orders of business was to finish updating the knob-and-tube. We got quotes from a few electricians and while KNT Electric's was on the higher end of the spectrum, we were won over by Bill's professionalism and attention to detail. He impressed us by performing a thorough and thoughtful assessment -- walking through every room, taking detailed notes, and asking lots of questions (this was a major contrast with another electrician we invited over, who took a quick look around before declaring he had seen everything he needed to see). Bill promptly provided us with an incredibly detailed quote, with a thorough breakdown of the costs. Bill and his crew worked quickly and were pleasant to be around, making sure to clean up at the end of every day. Bill was also always available to answer questions by phone or email. I liked how he laid out all of the the worst-case scenarios up front (he says he only wants there to be 'good surprises') and would make helpful suggestions for improvements/fixes without being pushy. Even after Bill completed his job for us, he continued answering my questions by email and even came by a month later to decommission a plug that we later decided to get rid of. My family recently purchased an old victorian home in parkdale which needed much work. Bill and KNT Electric was the first of the trades I hired. Bill was courteous and thorough in his comments and his quote was detailed which provided clarity. Tim, who led the work, was an effective communicator and always provided thoughtful advice. The work was done efficiently and I will have them back out to complete the electircal work for spaces which are currently being renovated. Easy going but highly professional. KNT Electric replaced the knob and tube electrical wiring in my century home located in Toronto's Little Italy. The original quote was comparable to two other estimates and was presented in a detailed itemized spreadsheet. I am glad I decided to place my trust in Bill Tang. Bill, Tim and the dedicated team of professional electricians completed the huge electrical rewiring in the given timeline. They covered all furniture, floors and work areas and cleaned up at the end of each work day. The holes were patched up and left ready to be painted. When we bought our house, we knew we had to replace all the knob and tube within a very specific period of time. After several quotes, we found KNT on homestars and Bill left us with a great impression and a very competitive quote for an ESA-certified, end-to-end electrical upgrade. He really knows the older homes in Toronto, and he was well organized, transparent and very detailed in his report. He helped us make the initial plan which included new pot lights and other installations, and allowed us to make adjustments along the way while keeping the plan and costs very clear in a spreadsheet. His team protected the hardwood, executed the job within a week, and he even brought extra people on the weekend to accommodate our schedule. There were no hidden costs or unforeseen situations, Bill was transparent, offered solid advice, and he stuck to the plan. At the start of the job they protected all the furniture and floors, and at the end of every day his team cleaned up after themselves. They patched the holes, and matched the patterns in the lath and plaster leaving it ready to paint. He was relaxed about closing the project and advised us to live in the house for a few days in case there were any corrections or changes needed. We greatly appreciated this advice, and we called him back for a final correction which was promptly addressed and we were left with a pleasant home and a painless experience. Bill and his team completed knt replacement (and other miscellaneous electrical installations) at our century home in Toronto. Like other owners, I wanted to shop around for insurance quotes, but was always asked if there is any knob & tube wiring in my home. Because there is, that was as far as the quote went. I contacted 3 electrical contractors who all state they deal with old homes with K&T wiring. Bill's quote and information concerning what work would be mandatory (by ESA) and what would not was the most comprehensive and understandable of the three. I decided to go with KNT after viewing one of their job sites. The work took a week as stated and his electricians were all very professional and respectful of my floors and furniture. It was necessary to cut a number of small holes in some walls and ceilings but the number was kept to a minimum and the old plaster/lath walls did not seem to suffer. The subsequent patching of the holes was done very well and I was able to sign off on all of them before the work was concluded. The fact that KNT Electric specializes in knob & tube replacement sets them apart from other electricians who do more general electrical work and therefore don't have that level of experience dealing with the precocities of "vintage homes".

The issue started a few weeks back when we noticed our lights flickering throughout the house. On Mother's day, we lost partial power to the house, accompanied by popping sounds from the meter outside. When Toronto Hydro arrived on site, they informed us that we had a defective lug and corroded meter base which needed replacement ASAP. That evening, I emailed Bill Tang of KNT(as well as other electricians) as he was recommended to me by a friend. Bill responded to my email within a few hours, and he was at our house the next day to review site conditions and provide a quotation. I found Bill to be extremely knowledgeable in the work that needed to be completed, as well as any other work that would be necessary to do the job right, to comply with regulatory codes, and to obtain ESA certification (Electrical Safety Authority). He clearly explained what and why certain things needed to be done, and took the time to answer questions when asked. I had spoken to 3 other companies that same day, and KNT was our clear choice for knowledge of the scope of work, service, promptness, and price (they were the fairest price for the scope outlined). The next morning, Bill had already scheduled a disconnect with Toronto Hydro as well as the ESA inspector. The day before the job was to be completed, Bill dropped by my house to introduce me to his colleague who would be doing the work - I was pleasantly surprised by the gesture. The day of, Tim and Ken of KNT were extremely punctual, and the work with KNT, Toronto Hydro, Hydro subs, and ESA was all conducted efficiently within the time frame originally estimated by Bill. KNT's crew was efficient, very clean, and took the time to show me all the work that was completed. They remained on site until Hydro returned power to the house, and proceeded to check power throughout the entire house, ensuring all was in good order. To summarize, we thought KNT was knowledgeable, prompt, did excellent work, charged us a very fair price, and provided us with excellent customer care. We would highly recommend KNT Electric.

At each stage of the project Bill was careful to explain what was happening, how they were progressing, and how they might deal with any unexpected issues. They provided practical and cost effective solutions, both at planning stage and throughout. In my case, there were some unlikely problems, but Bill kept to the schedule and the cost estimates. I always felt that I was fully aware of what was going on and why, and when I had concerns or questions, Bill was quick to respond, and clear and helpful in his replies.
