Basement bedroom - trim work, door installation

Bill quickly assessed the work to be done, quoted a reasonable price and got started when he said he would. He offered helpful suggestions to make the project even better than originally planned. He was completely honest as well -- when we asked if he could install carpeting, he admitted he hadn't done so professionally before. He recommended an excellent carpet supplier (End of the Roll - Merivale Rd.) instead. We'll call Bill first the next time we need handyman services.

    Answer from pro:

Thanks Glad I could help. Any troubles in the future with the doors or trim let me know. All our work is warrantied for 1 year. Enjoy the new space

    Painiting, Kitchen Renovation

I am glad I located Bill at HomeStars. Through a couple of projects, I know Bill really well. He is a funny man to work with. Very knowledgeable and honest. The garage insulation is a 10 plus job, well under budget. The kitchen renovation is a breeze too, under budget and within schedule. Soon after that, I have been using him for all kinds of work, plumbing and everything I don't want to or don't know how to. He did it really well. Anyway I highly recommend Bill. Tao

    Renovations, preparing to sell

Bill was on time, pro-active with suggestions and did meticulous work. He was very helpful in connecting me with folks I needed: a great stager, a fantastic painter and a smart real estate agent. Our house sold for $130K more than we paid 2 years earlier. I won't say this was all Bill's doing :) but he certainly had a hand in that. Thank you!!!

Thanks Louise I'm glad everything worked out for you. Enjoy the new city. It's a shame to loose an apretiative and loyal customer to another city. You will be missed. Good luck in your future endevors

    odd jobs

Athough I would easily agree that Bill of Vail Renovations is pleasant and he seems to do good work (given my very limited experience with the kind of work he can do) BUT, scheduling is a nightmare. 3 dates were given and not respected, and I was informed on ly the same day or the evening prior. Anyone who has to schedule a day off work for Bill to come to their home can expect delays and last minute changes as he juggles workload and requests; he seems to treat clients differently, based on the value ($) of the job. Over 6 months ago, I purchased 3 (group) vouchers giving me 3-days of Bill Vail's Handyman services. Since then, my constant request has been quite simple and reasonable: Book a date, near or far, and stick to it. I am still waiting. Commitment and communication are compounding issues; my last email to him September 17, remains unanswered.

    Answer from pro:

Please accept my apologies Denise, I'm sorry you feel this way As a small business that strives to treat each customer equally regardless of weather you live in rockcliff park or any other part of the city regardless of $ there are times when priority must be given to certain tasks or projects. Your project of painting and minor fixing was postponed due to a flooded basement caused by another contractor breaking a water pipe flooding 2 children's bedrooms. This project came in last minute from a customer I happened to be performing repairs for at the time and was hired on the spot by the contracted installation company to rectify the situation ASAP. I am sincerely sorry that your project suffered due to the misfortune and urgency of the above mentioned situation. The constant request was 2 emails which I could not respond to immediately due to a family issue out of country which was explained to you upon my return. 3 dates were given to you upon my return which could not be accommodated due to your scheduling. When you purchased the discounted online deal it does state vail renovations reserves the right to scheduling. It is also unfair to include the wait time from your purchase date as once your online purchase is completed via online discount company I have no way of contacting customers. Due to privacy regulations I must wait for purchasers to contact me as personal info is not provided by the online company. I hope the completed work based on your requests and expectations has been met now that all daily deals have now be satisfied. I am very sorry I did not leave a more positive impression.

    Drywall mudding/taping

We hired Bill for 2 days to help with our basement drywall mudding. He was very polite, professional, and fun to work with. The quality of work was excellent with minimal sanding required. I would definitely hire him again for future projects.

Remove large porch, dig out sewage pipe, rebuild and paint porch

Bill was amazing. He listened carefully to our concerns and went above and beyond our expectations at every point. He minimized costs where he could and seems to take great pride in his work. We had to remove a very large porch to get access to the pipe that ran underneath it, and Bill did the job quickly and efficiently, and then rebuilt the porch in a very timely manner. He took great care to only disturb what needed to be moved, and re-used as many of the porch boards as he could. He had to remove about two feet of garden as well, and not only did he carefully dig up the perennials, but he even replanted them when he re-built the porch after the plumber finished the pipe. By contrast, we had another contractor on site for a different job who simply trampled some garden plants and showed no concern for the garden at all. This was probably a small job for Bill, but he treated us and the job with great respect. I would recommend Bill in a minute!

    Answer from pro:

Thank you. Enjoy the porch/deck. Lol Look forward to helping you in the future Let me know about the tree house Have a great summer
