    Know what you're signing

    Service may be good until you want to end the contract or have defective equipment no longer under contract. You never own the equipment and will be assessed a buy out at "depreciated fair market value". In my case, I completed my 7 year contract on Feb. 1, 2023. My furnace was damaged in late September and needed replacement. I was shocked to get an e-mail a few days later "Lawyers Request" saying I owed $3,955 for the furnace. I was floored! There is a (convoluted) provision in the contract saying how the amount is assessed, based on fair market value. I've paid approximately $9,000 over the past 7+ years. And I owe another $4,000? I understand there is a service component to the contract, but I have quotes on NEW furnaces for $500 -$600 more than what I am being assessed as fair. I have a hard time accepting this practice.

    New water heater

    Nice personable worker. However, left a mess behind for us to clean. Helped himself to our cleaning supplies and left them dirty as well, and never did manage to clean up. Just shaking our heads. What has happened to comprehensive service? Seems like everyone is in a hurry and no one cares.

    A complete sham

    I have no idea how they have an 84% on HomeStars. Never ever rent a water heater, furnace, heat pump etc. from these people. They will charge you a ton of money if you ever decide to get out of the contract and you will end up paying much more than the actual appliance cost. When we had purchased our home in 2018 we made the mistake of taking on the Reliance water heater contract from the previous homeowner. The basic gas water heater had been installed in 2009 and it was roughly $30 a month by the time we wanted to buy it out in 2023, the buyout was something like $600. How is that even possible we asked after more than a decade of rental fees? According to their terms and conditions: The price at which you may buy the water heater will be equal to the depreciated fair market value of the water heater as at the date you buy the water heater (as determined by us on a straight-line basis in accordance with Canadian generally accepted accounting principles So, what are those? Reliance refused to provide them. Moreover, a water heater that is 14 years old is basically scrap. Especially when buying a home - make sure you make the seller buy-out the rental contracts on the major appliances, do not let yourself get stuck in it. It is a parasitic business model that takes advantage of consumers.

    Customer service is very poor

    Some of the worst customer service I ever seen. Where do they find these workers? They tricked us in a packages and decieved us. By the time we figured it out it was 3 months in and cost us money. They are uneducated and rude.

    Where’s the reliable in Reliance?

    I purchased brand new best Reliance has to offer TRANE heat pump with furnace system, cost about $15,000. Went away for thanksgiving weekend and we were looking forward to a warm house - heat system! Horrified. We walked into 58 F and dropping. Called Reliance for a technician and told 2 day wait. No technicians available and fully booked. Unacceptable. Asked what is my family, including 2 kids suppose to do, freeze? The lady replied Yes!! I offered Reliance to subcontract the service call out and I could bill them. She said, no, the warranty calls for a Reliance tech. The System is not even 2 months old. First time calling for heat and no heat. Seems to be a wiring issue. The guy that came out to instal was cursing and swearing because he hated to instal heat pumps and was clearly not knowing how to. No heat in near zero outdoor temperatures is an emergency call, not a wait situation - especially when the instal guy screwed up - is not skilled or perhaps certified to instal this unit. Extremely upset and dissatisfied. This is your gig Reliance - to deliver reliable heat. Couldnt even deliver reliable installation. Further troubled by unreliable oncall service. Shame. Failed this one Reliance 3 fold Reliance.

    Fast and efficient

    We had a problem with a bath tub diverter handle that was leaking. It wasnt major but it was concerning. We contacted Reliance and a plumber was at the house within 2 hours. Had it fixed immediately. There was no additional cost to this since we have the Reliance plumbing service and the parts were supplied by Kohler customer service. Theres always small plumbing jobs that need a plumber but finding one that can come quickly and at a reasonable price is hard. This service eliminates that concern.

    Clogged bathtub

    Super easy booking the appointment. I have the plumbing insurance so this job was covered. Very professional, energetic, called 25 mins before arriving. Quick and efficient, everything was taken care of in less than 30 mins. Highly recommend.
