Moved into new home with a 2013 energy efficient gas furnace. Got Reliance Home Comfort Protection plan, which supposedly includes 24/7 emergency service.
Dec 29: Reliance technician comes in for yearly maintenance.
Jan 6 - evening. We get home from work to find our furnace is no longer working ad flashing a number of error codes related to pressure. It's -35 degrees out. We phone Reliance, expecting our 24/7 emergency service to kick in. They refuse to send a technician that night and book for the next day. After two hours of phoning them back, and having their call centre manager, Alicola, refuse to speak with us (after promising to phone us back), they finally agreed to send a technician out. Technician arrives around 9pmish and fiddles with furnace, "fixing" it.
January 14 - morning. We wake up to furnace not working again. We phone Reliance and they book an appt. for the morning. Technician arrives, and orders two pressure switches, which he says need to be replaced. We're told they will definitely arrive within 24 hours.
January 15 - parts arrive about 32 hours later, and we phone Reliance again. They send a technician that evening and he installs the pressure valves and leaves.
January 18 - 10:30 pm. Furnace stops working again, spitting out new error codes. We phone reliance and reliance again refuses to send out a technician for emergency service. They booked an appt. for tomorrow. We have to take more time off work.
And that's where we are now. Reliance should be called Unreliable Home Discomfort.
I have made a formal complaint already to the company through a satisfaction survey. Recieved a form email asking if I could explain my issue. I had already explained in full. I told them I wanted to hear back and give them a chance to resolve it. They never got back to me.
So, summary: Reliance broke my furnace while doing maintenance, then refused to send people to fix it on an emergency basis (even though I pay a monthly fee for an emergency plan), and have to date sent three technicians (in addition to the maintenance guy) to "fix" the furnace that they broke. They haven't fixed anything. We now live in fear that the furnace will break during -30 degree weather. This is a 2013 energy efficient furnace. It's not an old clunker.
This company sucks. I recommend you go with any of the other heating companies that offer protection plans, because there are other options.
I had a working furnace, and now it's broken. I've had to take all sorts of time off work when I can't really do it. It's been awful and the saga continues...
Save yourself some hassle and disappointment. Do not sign up for their plan. Do not use this company for anything at all.
