    bathroom work

Overall happy with the work. It was done in a reasonable amount of time. Had a mixing valve replaced near the hot water heater. Would recommend to friends and family.

Newly Installed Furnace - No Heat

I had a newly installed furnace (3 months old, end Sep installation). Early December, it was just blowing cold air even at heat and even changing temps. Called Enercare. Rich, the technician took time to do a thorough check and found a screw (used in the body of the furnace) that was stuck in one of the drain tubes of the furnace. Unfortunately, this screw in a newly installed furnace indicates a need for improvement in the quality control checks at the manufacturing side of the equipment and possibly on the checking side of installation.

    Plumbing Repairs

Within the past month we have called Enercare twice for repair services (mixing valve on lead in to water heater and shower diverter valve) at our 90 yr old home in Bloor West Village. On the second occasion we received same day service on Dec 31st for a non - emerg situation. In each case the customer service rep was friendly and the service person was on-time, courteous and efficient and didn't mind if I looked-on and asked questions. I will be booking my furnace and central A/C maintenance services thru Enercare from now on.

    replacement of hot water heater

Start to finish - 3 days. We were seeing inconsistent temperature from our 14 yer old tank. I told them we were in no rush but would like it looked at. They sent service person out the same day and, during the visit, he arranged replacement for the next day (15/12/31). Bad - No description of options on website or over the phone. I wanted to know about high efficiency model - no information. Good - Replaced 60 gal (g860t52n) rental tank in one hour. Very clean, fast professional. Highly recommend.

    Service package for furnace

Charges monthly fee on contract, unable to stop contract without a huge penalty fee of $300. Only allowed to stop contract at start of new year. They wil harass you nonstop with phone messages for money they say you owe them even if you paid. I complained to Enbridge who tried to help but people at Enercare had their facts wrong- impossible to deal with. Non stop harassment for money owed which I paid in full. I finally gave in and paid the $120 just to get them off of my back then I get a bill for $12.00 for late payment fee!!!

    Conflicting information, difficult to cancel

We were warned how hard it would be to cancel a rental from Enercare, but still found the experience surprising. One example: after several challenging conversations that featured what Enercare admitted was contradictory advice, we accepted paying a fee for pick-up of Enercare's hot water heater. I asked the rep to please schedule a pick-up of the old tank. No problem, according to the rep. They would call me back in 24-48 hours to set up a time for pick-up. That's right, they can't actually see the schedule without a day or two of notice.

    Hot Water Tank Rental

Don’t deal with these people if you don’t have to. My house had a rental hot water tank when I moved in and I had it replaced a few years ago by Direct Energy/Enercare when it was malfunctioning. Recently, I tried to buyout my water heater and was quoted a higher price than the one listed for the term in my agreement. (I was actually given two different expertly calculated “non-negotiable” buyout prices for the same tank during two different phone calls - both were incredibly high.) The buyout price schedule in the agreement is what I signed and agreed to, but a representative from the rental department at Enercare said the total was just an estimate and could be revised to reflect market value. Really, no joke. This is not mentioned anywhere in my agreement, but that’s what she said. This is also not legal (imagine a bank changing financial terms in a mortgage agreement to their advantage). What followed was an annoying game of calls, emails and week-long delays (calculated incompetence), all done in an effort to frustrate and collect extra monthly rental fees to make up the difference. I finally received the buyout price that was in the agreement (only after they realized I filed a complaint with the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services) and only after dealing with months of delays (and of course being charged for those delays). Just a lot of headaches. It's just a terrible and pathetic way to treat customers and conduct business (check Enercare/Direct Energy’s past history - different name but it’s the same company). I won’t trust them again (you shouldn’t either) and I am glad to be done with them.

    Water Heater Install

The installers were kind, informative, helpful, resourceful and went above and beyond to ensure the installation went smoothly and we felt supported and satisfied. We also had a visit from Doug, the Regional Manager, who was equally informative and helpful and went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable.
