Don’t deal with these people if you don’t have to.
My house had a rental hot water tank when I moved in and I had it replaced a few years ago by Direct Energy/Enercare when it was malfunctioning. Recently, I tried to buyout my water heater and was quoted a higher price than the one listed for the term in my agreement. (I was actually given two different expertly calculated “non-negotiable” buyout prices for the same tank during two different phone calls - both were incredibly high.)
The buyout price schedule in the agreement is what I signed and agreed to, but a representative from the rental department at Enercare said the total was just an estimate and could be revised to reflect market value. Really, no joke. This is not mentioned anywhere in my agreement, but that’s what she said. This is also not legal (imagine a bank changing financial terms in a mortgage agreement to their advantage).
What followed was an annoying game of calls, emails and week-long delays (calculated incompetence), all done in an effort to frustrate and collect extra monthly rental fees to make up the difference.
I finally received the buyout price that was in the agreement (only after they realized I filed a complaint with the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services) and only after dealing with months of delays (and of course being charged for those delays). Just a lot of headaches. It's just a terrible and pathetic way to treat customers and conduct business (check Enercare/Direct Energy’s past history - different name but it’s the same company).
I won’t trust them again (you shouldn’t either) and I am glad to be done with them.
