    Furnace Service

I absolutely would recommend your service. While we had no heat for 24 hours, your service representative was polite and kind. He explained that we would be priority but at the same time the part had to be ordered. The scheduling department was amazing as well and sending an email to confirm. most appreciated....

    Furnace Repair

I smelled gas in my house and called Enbridge. They arrived within 20 mins of call and shut the gas off and told me that the furnace had a gas valve leak and the part needed to be replaced. I then immediately called Direct Energy to fix the problem asap. As the furnace (Amana-Goodman high-efficiency) was purchased in 2013 from Direct Energy, it was still under warranty. I contacted DE at 7:20PM and they told me that a technician could be here the next day between 9-1 AM. As I have 2 children under 4 years of age, I was very disappointed that this was the best service they could offer. The outside temperature was -25C and had to borrow space heater from neighbours to maintain some livable conditions. In the morning the living room temperature was 12C. When the technician arrived the next day, he told me that he didn't have the part and that the parts department was closed until the next day. He would see what he could do in morning. He told me if I wanted, that If I wanted I could turn on the gas and run the furnace for a time to heat up the house and then turn it off when it reaches a desired temperated. I didn't want to play with the gas and probably not company policy to advise this as a stop gap solution. Finally after not hearing from DE the next day, I contacted the president's office to ask for assistance. They promptly responded and set up and appointment for that evening. From the time smelling the gas and contacting Direct Energy to the finally having repaired was 48+ hours. In this extreme cold weather, is this the best emergency service they are set up to provide? Should this be acceptable? Side note...Do you rent your water heater?? Do the math. A new electric heater is under $500 installed. What has it cost you to rent over the years? Ontario is the only province that rents water heaters. Why???

    Hot Water Heater Service

Called about 4:45 Sat as no hot water and therefore no heat with the combo system. Earliest appt was Mon between 9:00 AM - 1:00PM. Rep advised almost certainly be called Sun with an earlier appt due priority with no heat. No call by 4:30 Sun - now over 30 hrs with no heat. Called back - still nothing avail earlier. Company web site states promise to do everything for same day service if call before 5 PM. Over 40 hours is unacceptable - it is going down to -27 tonight. It appears they make promises to get rental contracts but minimize techs to fatten the bottom line once they sign you up. Private company had our entire furnace R&R in half this time.

    Furnace Issue

It was challenging to figure out what was actually causing the furnace to shut off/down over a period of several weeks (ultimately, it was discovered that there was a recall issued shortly before the final technician came). Finally, after the 5th or so technician, the problem was solved. It took several visits, by several different technicians, however, each of them was knowledgeable, able to make some kind of adjustment and teach me about running the furnace, so at no time did I ever feel their visit was futile. I felt that each technician who came to the house, was able to solve a piece of the larger puzzle and I was very happy after each of their visits. The appointments were made at a time that worked for me and the overall experience was certainly the best experience I've had. As a HIP Plus member, the minor investment of paying a monthly "insurance" fee is unbelievably worth it. It saved me hundreds of dollars.
