    Snake my line

Blech - another basement sewer back up! Drainworks responded quickly and efficiently, busting up the tree roots that grew into my old clay pipes. They did a great job and were very good about explaining next steps to prevent the problem from recurring.

    Main drain blockage problem resolved

Called the folks over at DrainWorks to fix a main drain blockage in our basement. I tried a few different things on my own but couldn't get this unpleasant problem to go away. DrainWorks committed to a time window and arrived promptly as promised. The service man was polite, courteous and made sure he wore his slip on covers as required when walking through the house. Even the snake had its own slip covers for the wheels to ensure a clean job. The problem area had a drop sheet laid out by the serviceman to contain any mess that would occur during the service. Problem was found about 20 feet from the drain which means the problem was just outside the house perimeter. The serviceman continued to snake for about 60 feet ....which gave me further assurance that the immediate blockage was taken care of. Thanks for the quick and clean job.

    Tree Roots

This review is for repairs I had done in February 2011. The toilet in my basement bathroom had gradually tempermental over the years. Eventually, it would just overflow when flushed. I had Drainworks come in to have a look. The camera scope showed that it was completely plugged by tree roots & that these roots were encroaching on my main line. Drainworks had to jackhammer out the concrete floor to replace old, collapsed terra cotta tile pipe and replace it with plastic. They said it would be a 2 day job but it only ended up being a day & a half. The guys were very patient explaining to me what was wrong & how much it would cost to fix it. And they didn't push me into making a cosmetic repair that wasn't in my budget. They just fixed the problem, completed the job to my satisfaction and cleaned up before they left. In addition, one of the Drainworks guys told me about a City of Toronto grant that would cover up to $2000 of repairs if it was deemed to be a city tree's roots in my plumbing. I would have never have known about this grant, nor about the procedures to follow in order to be eligible to apply for it. He didn't have to tell me about it, but he did, and I ended up getting $2000 back from the city. So not only did Drainworks do a great job, they saved me a lot of money! Should I have other plumbing issues in the future, Drainworks will be my first and only call.

    Drain Repair

This is the 5th or 6th time DrainWorks has been over to fix numerous drainage or plumbing problems in our old house. What impresses me is their consistency. They are always extremely polite, aim to ensure customer satisfaction and the service is nothing less than first rate. Armando was the technician who came to our home and upon his investigation determined the issue, he proceeded to answer all of our questions very patiently and thoroughly. After this, Frank, the Excavation manager arrived the morning of the job, and he was also equally impressive and thorough in how he went about his job and without fail, did everything to ease my concerns. They encountered some difficulties while digging, including miserable weather, but they proceeded on as if it was a sunny day and didn't let it, or the complications affect them or the price. When it was all said and done, Frank did one final camera inspection to show me the work, and helped me with some final questions I'd had. It's nice that they stayed engaged with me every step of the way, as a single mother/homeowner, having a contractor you can trust is an invaluable resource. Thanks Armando, Frank and everyone else!

    Drain Inspection/Issue Remediation

Had these guys in to inspect a 'mystery' pipe that was the suspected source of infrequent basement flooding. While the team was extremely professional, and courtious, they were unable to determine the role of this pipe in our house, and were unable to tell us what might be the cause of the minor floods we experienced during heavy rain. A camera was sent down multiple drains in an attempt to determine the issue. This work ended up costing us ~$270, but unfortunately didn't help the team (or us) understand the problem. The proposal that was written, was to jackhammer a 6ft section of our basement floor to 'inspect' the system and determine what repairs would be needed from that point forward. This would have cost us ~$1700, and would have been mostly exploratory. In getting a second opinion, the problem was IMMEDIATELY identified as being a broken sump pump (~$500 installed). Had I contacted this other company first, I could have saved the $270 we spent on the camera work. I can't believe that a company with this many positive reviews and this much experience failed to inspect (or even ask about) a sump pump, which resides right next to where they were standing. Further, in speaking with a Drain Works representative after initially posting this review, I'm now further convinced in my decision to work with another organization.

    Answer from pro:

Tim, DrainWorks can only provide service in your home on what is made accessible to us. It was never disclosed to us that a sump pump existed and one was certainly not in plain sight as you claim. When we called you, after reading this review and asked why we were never informed that you had a sump pump, you said “I didn’t even know I had one”; proof alone that the sump pump was definitely not visible if you as the homeowner had never even seen it. In all fairness, we cannot very well tear a whole basement apart trying to find something we were never informed existed in the first place and is not common in your area. The video scoping of your drain line that we performed did not lead us to any sump pump as you had numerous illegal plumbing issues in your system. You have water lines running through your drain lines and those issues seemed to be the obvious problem, but as it turns out, you had more than one problem, however, the proposal we provided still stands as the issues we identified are very real, still exist, and should be repaired. Further, the camera inspection did help you; it helped you to understand that beyond this sump pump, there were other pressing issues that without doing the camera inspection, you wouldn't have known about.

    Unclog drain in laundry sink

We received a prompt and professional call from DrainWorks to let us know that someone would arrive at 9 am the next day. The Technician showed up promptly just a couple of minutes before 9 am. He was professional and courteous and explained how he would perform the job. He helped me to move things so he could access the pipes, and even put them back by himself without saying a word. The drain is unclogged now, and he also recommended a great trick to keep the laundry drain from re-clogging. He suggested putting panty hose over the washer hose to capture any debris so that it wouldn't was down the drain.

    plumbing repair

Honesty, integrity, reliability, professionalism, genuine customer service, consumer education - these are the reasons that I keep using Drainworks for jobs large and small - from $6-8000 excavation in 2006-07 to plumbing job under my bathroom sink in 2011. If Drainworks makes an appointment, they arrive on time or call if they have been delayed. They are courteous and respectful of my house, my pets, my time, and me. They are knowledgeable and always explain things to me so that I can understand what the problem is, what it will take to fix the problem, and the cost, so I can make an informed decision about what to do. I live a house that is over 100 years old where the plumbing is not new. Since Drainworks replaced the drainage system under my house in 2006/07 by excavating under the foundation of my house, I have not had any problems with sewer backups or tree roots. What a relief that I don't have to be worried about a wet basement every time it rains. I also use Drainworks for simple problems like a slow-moving drain under my bathroom sink when baking soda and vinegar no longer solve the problem. But what I like most of all about Drainworks is that they listen to my concerns and respond to them with good old-fashioned customer service, whether it is a toilet that needs a shim or an old gasket that needs TLC or a mysterious slow drip that appeared after a snaking job. There is a good reason that I am loyal to Drainworks - they have earned my respect. When I pay Drainworks to resolve a plumbing issue, they do it right and they leave me a very satisfied customer.

    Water pipe replacement

On a Friday evening the water pipe in our basement broke- right where it comes up from the ground- and before the shut off valve! As water was spraying all over the place I called Drainworks in a panic. William was very helpful- telling me to contact the city and have them come out and shut off the water. The next day I called Drainworks back to set up an appointment for them to cme and give me a repair estimate. They came by the same day- exactly when they said they would- and called before arrival to confirm. After agreeing on the work to be done they set up to return on Monday. They arrived when they said they would, were very polite and professional- even wore booties every time they came into the house. They did a great job- finished when they said they would- and left the place in much better shape then they found it. This is the third time I've had to use their services and would encourage anyone who needs drain, plumbing or moisture services to contact them!
