    Move a hot water radiator

The job was to fairly straight forward: Remove a hot water radiator, cap the pipes, rough-in new pipes to a new location while the floor was open, return to install a new radiator when the new floor was complete. The finished work was not well done: The pipes they installed coming out of the floor were very crooked and they did not install the chrome washer sleeves. In all it looked terrible relative to the new kitchen I had just installed. They refused to fix their sloppy work. I told the gentleman (Mike) I would write them a bad review if he did not do something to correct the situation and he said he did not care. I think his attitude really says it all. ************** I would like to address a couple of inaccuracies in Mike's response (below): He was late for the first part of the job, showing up a day due to a "miscommunication" (so not always on time). And, he did charge me extra (I have his invoice to prove it). Finally, His offer to address the situation seems insincere and is very untimely. He had plenty of opportunity to redress the situation at the time and I have since fixed most of his work myself.

    Answer from pro:

In response to this negative review I would like to point out that all work promised was completed on time and on budget as requested by this customer. He left his contractor in charge of the job and we worked around his contractor's schedule and completed the work as requested. We had originally quoted this customer on a plastic piping system (which was completed) and then he changed his mind and wanted to run copper instead. I did not charge him for this change and absorbed all excess costs of material and labour. In the end when we finished our work, this customer started asking for extras in regards to the finishing of the pipes which was not quoted out. We had agreed to use all existing material, other than the new piping, to lower the costs of the job. As I provided him with the costs of the finishing materials, he refused to pay any extras and decided that he will take care of those things himself. We never refused service to this customer and all work was approved by his contractor at the time of installation. When I told this customer that the finishing would be extra to the contract he got upset and threatened to do what it takes to tarnish the Dupont name. As I don’t like to leave any customers with an unhappy thought about the company, I would like this customer to call me back so that I can discuss the issues and hopefully leave him with a smile. Mike – 416-532-2859 We had worked around this customer's budget and his contractor's schedule for this job. The company absorbed most of the extra costs of repiping the system so that this customer would not go over budget. I was extremely fair and sympathetic to this customer and tried to keep the costs as low as possible. When this customer was given the extra costs for the materials he wanted, he flately refused and decided to take on the work himself. I don't know what more I could have done to keep this customer happy. My offer still stands to discuss the issue and work something out.

Installation of entire HVAC system and annual maintenance

Over-sized our furnace by 50%. Company supposedly is a Carrier dealer but claimed to have no idea there was a legal settlement due to a class action lawsuit of 200,000 Canadians resulting in rebates to customers. Charges $169 as a "warranty labour rate" vs its regular rate of $99/hour, meaning the homeowner gets zero benefit due to "free" warranty parts because the homeowner is charged almost double the labour costs to have them installed, and may even end up paying more than without a warranty. Jackie - their front office person - is remarkably uninformed and has a lack of diplomacy that together suggest she shouldn't be speaking with customers.

    Furnace

Did a great job with my furnace replacement. They had good prices and good service. I would use them again in the future. Watch out for the scammers in this business I had a few questionable quotes from other companies.

    Emergency Furnace Repair

Our 7 year old furnace was producing a burning smell and weird noises so we had to shut it off. We called Dupont after the first company we approached failed to return our calls within 5 hours. Dupont provided us an appointment time for the same day and arrived early portion of the appointment window. The technican was knowledgeable and courteous - and worked really quickly to identify the problem. Pricing to fix the problem was provided up front. The first replacement part (located and installed later in the same day) was faulty, but the technian was able to hook up our system so that we could have heating in the interim. A new replacement part was located and installed on the next day during hours that were convenient to us (a bonus!). The technican even provided us with information on how to maintain our heating and AC system AND identified and fixed a small peripheral issue that was resulting in suboptiminal heating performance. We will definitley consider Dupont Heating and Air Conditioning for our future heating and air conditioning needs.

    Furance duct review and repair

We just moved in to our place a few months ago, we noticed that our heat was minimal on our upper floors so we had DuPont come out to check that all the duct connection were Ok. The person who came out was friendly but I was annoyed that he asked me to go and buy a tube of clear color high heat silicon because he only had red color silicon. At the end of the day I didn’t think that he did a whole lot for charging me for 1 hour work and there is only a marginal difference in the heat on our upper floor.

    Answer from pro:

Hi Matthew, A lot of people complain about poor airflow in the upper living spaces in their homes. Using silicone is the least expensive way but unfortunately we can only seal areas that are exposed. Without being able to see ductwork that is hidden behind walls it's impossible to locate air leaks in these spaces. We use silicone to seal any air leaks that are visible and accessible. The technician asked if you could buy the silicone to avoid paying travel and labour expenses out of courtesy. He was trying to save you any additional charges that you might have incurred. We can try to address your airflow issue in other ways and I encourage you to call the office and we can speak about different options available to you.

    Air Conditionner Issues

Having recently purchased an old home in Toronto, we knew that work needed to be done. Part of that was getting the AC unit checked-out as it was leaking. I called Dupont as they were the company's who's named was attached to the new furnace in our home. The technician came & detailed that they installed the new Furnace, but the AC unit was leaking onto the new furnace. We were told not to use the AC at all until the leaking evaporator coil was replaced, in order to ensure it did not leak onto the furnace and do any damage. In the middle of a hot August summer, it was hard not to use the AC, but Dupont came in with the part within 72 hours and arranged a quick Saturday appointment for installation. Before I knew it, the problem was fixed & they took time to show me what was done and how to test their work. The AC unit worked perfect since, and no leaks. I am considering calling them for additional work we need done shortly on our duct work.

    A/C Unit Servicing

Found them on homestars. Scheduled a service call and they actually showed up earlier than planned (bonus points there). The technician noticed the service valves were toast so the options are to replace the vales or replace the unit...we'll probably replace the unit. The only down side was they still charged the full service fee for a 2 minute job. They said if we buy through them we get refunded but I feel if they gave a discount upfront, it would make doing business with them again easier. Probably will bring them in for an estimate but seeing how they are using the refund as bait, I'm not sure if that leaves a good impression.

    Answer from pro:

Hi John, We tell all our customers the costs associated with any service calls and labour rates before we come out to your home. I'm sorry you feel that you're being held hostage but any service charges are discussed at the time an appointment is booked. We do not have any hidden costs associated with any repairs. We as a company will refund the service call charge to all our customers if they decide to purchase a new unit and we will not charge another service call if you decide to go ahead with any repairs. We do this out of courtesy as we know that purchasing a new unit is costly and it's our way of giving our customers a break on a new purchase. If you don't think that's a fair offer please give me a call and we can discuss the issue one on one. I want to make sure that you are comfortable in dealing with us and that we leave you with a great impression. We provide free estimates to our customers and I look forward to giving you a quote. changes to our air conditioning

Recently we purchased a new home in the Lawrence/ Avenue Rd. area. The house being rather large we found the airconditioner was not able to adeequately cool the entire house properly. On the advise of Dupont Heating & Air Conditioning we installed an airconditioner in the master bedroom and now we can sleep cool and comfortable all summer long.

    New furnace & humidier

Recently purchased and had installed a new furnace with humidier. Pat came out to give me a quote and was very knowledgeable and professional. He took the time to explain in detail the equipment and how it worked. The installation crew from Dupont was on time as promised. Their installation crew was very courteous and neat. The installation was done efficiently with no mess left behind. The overall experience was wonderful from the time I called to book an appointment right up to the completion of the install. I would highly recommend this company to everyone! Life long customer of Dupont Heating!!

Purchase and install new AC and humidifer

We hired Dupont to purchase and install an AC unit & humidifier to our forced air system. They promised us that we would get a $50 rebate on the AC unit. However, the manufacturer did not want to honour that, and it was an ongoing issue. Then, a month after the installation, the water connection to the humidifier broke while I was in the hospital. We got home from the hospital to find 1/3 of our basement flooded. They came and fixed the connection. On the rebate issue, Dupont finally did help us get the rebate. I felt I really had to pressure them to live up to this part of their commitment to us. $50 is a small amount on a $4,000 job, but they might have been more helpful about it - especially as we never sought damages for the water damage done as a result of the poor connection to the humidifier.

    Answer from pro:

It is unfortunate that the water connection to the humidifier broke. When we received the call a month and a half after the installation, we dispatched a technician immediately to correct the issue. No damages were reported to us nor was compensation discussed due to this problem. We at Dupont Heating and Air Conditioning thrive to satisfy our customers and leave them with a sense of security and a job well done. On the issue of the rebate, we submit rebate forms to the manufacturer and after that we can only call them and push them to process in a timely manner. We have no control over the time it takes for customers to receive the rebates other than being told it takes between 6 to 8 weeks to process. If the customer wishes to contact me to discuss the issue he can reach me at 416-532-2859 and ask for Mike Logozzo. I'll be more than happy to help this customer and I deeply regret the fact that this customer remianed unsatisfied with the work completed by us.
